Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia diet vegan

hypoglycemia

Avatar m tn I'm a 31 year old Hispanic male. Current weight 232lbs, (height = 6'1) with most of it concentrated around my waist. Still, this is also the lowest I've been since I was 13. About a year ago I had a GTT done which revealed me to be a flat-line hypoglycemic. (Fasting = 79, 1/2hr = 81, 1hr = 71, 2hr =79) I have a very strong family history of diabetes and am working to prevent it in myself At least, that's what I hope.
Avatar n tn I've been reading/hearing a lot about vegan diets, but there doesn't seem to be a clear concensus on their benefits. Is vegan the best diet option for health and weight management?
Avatar f tn t like meat, but your body can even have a hard time with that so to be vegan which is very respectable can be so hard on your body. It sounds like you are missing something from your diet definately, Hypoglycemia and all you have mentioned is a very good possibility. Do you eat small meals frequently? Enough water? Can you at least visit a natural path once to discuss these issues? You may need B12 shots or something. Sounds like you might be digesting too fast as well.
Avatar n tn If your fasting blood sugar is okay you probably just get on the low side and start to feel gittery and irritable. I am like that too. So, yes protein and the complex carbs both work. Just eat either one more often and have smaller meals or have a snack with you so when you feel like that you can boost yourself up. I personally feel better now that I'm on a vegan diet. I eat a whole plant based diet with complex carbs and veggies and vanilla soy milk. I don't get as gittery.
Avatar m tn But I have to focus on one thing now and that is reducing the markers of Metabolic Syndrome (namely fat around the waistline and insulin resistance symptoms, plus I want to increase my HDL), for which studies have shown a low-carb diet is best, in a short-term basis. (Interestingly, a low-fat vegan diet was shown best for diabetes. This probably has to do with protein load on the kidneys.
Avatar f tn That's a broad question. I would say this, though, because I managed health food stores for many years -- not everyone is suited to be a vegan. And most vegans eat by ideology, not by what's healthy -- a lot of vegan food, particularly prepared food, is loaded with hydrogenated fats and sugar and other things best not eaten.
1314425 tn?1273909880 i want to start eating vegan, and all raw, can i just start right away? i just want to know if it will hurt me at all to just jump right into it.
Avatar n tn I've been reading hearing a lot about the disease preventing qualities of a vegan diet. However, there doen's seem to be a real concensus among the experts. Is a vegan diet the best option?
Avatar n tn First, how do you know other vegans have had incredible results? The vegan diet is an ideological diet based on a belief system that one shouldn't use animals for anything. It isn't a health diet, though it's often billed as that to sell it. No natural people, meaning people not living in an artificial civilization, has ever been vegan that I know of. So what does this mean for you?
Avatar f tn There are many people who follow vegan diets that are not healthy. That said it can be a very healthy diet if you choose natural products and are prepared to cook. My daughter is vegan and I regularly eat vegan meals, especially when trying to loose weight. That's because I can have a large meal that is filling by making something like a vegetable stew, lentil bolognaise or vege chilli.
1662361 tn?1302762372 I am 23, I know I am over weight, I diet and exercise but never loss weight. I have been test for diabetes since I was 12, and my levels have always been low. I have noticed lately tho when I test because my mom and grandma are diabetic that my sugar levels are from 50 to maybe 75 no matter what I eat. I snack on granola and some times hard candy and sometimes cookies. I just feel sick all the time, and dizzy and i get really shaky and, Nothing I have been doing is working.
Avatar f tn I believe I read somewhere that a vegan diet isnt good for a sustainable healthy pregnancy.. But you cant be the only one... I am not saying give up your diet but speak to your doctor about some small changes you may need to make... there is a section in what to expect when expecting about this but it seems to say you wont necessary need to give up your diet as long as you include enough protein serving .. having legumes, grains, seeds, and nuts daily...
Avatar m tn Personally, I think that a vegan diet is great, it offers everything for a healthy circulatory system.
9990306 tn?1407113138 t require you to eat animal food. Keep in mind that a vegan diet is an ideological diet, not based on how anyone has ever eaten naturally, so it takes more work to make it work.
Avatar f tn i am also vegan, and there are ways to raise a healthy vegan child. first and most important, BREAST FEED. breast milk is made to provide infants with all the nutrition they need. if you are unable to produce enough breast milk, there is soy infant formula available (not regular soy milk, that does not provide all the nutrients the infant needs). as an infant/toddler moving on from breast milk or formula, the first foods to be introduced are rice cereals, then vegetables and fruits.
Avatar f tn ve been a vegetarian for a number of years and have recently starting eating a vegan diet after struggling for years to get back to full health. I was prescribed these heavy duty medicines that had to be injected into me but I found that what has helped me the most is getting on a mostly vegan diet (I do eat eggs). If you're not having a flare up, fiber is very important. It's important you keep your body clean and bacteria free.
Avatar f tn Hey ladies I'm six weeks pregnant and been a vegan for the past five years...
Avatar n tn There is no source of B12 in the vegan diet, a nutrient that is essential to humans. Humans are omnivores, not herbivores, and require nutrition offered from animal sources. Get your B12 checked. You'll have to supplement your diet with B12 to remain healthy - and there are no true nonanimal sources of that although an animal source of B12 is added to the Rising Star vegan products. (So they aren't actually vegan).
Avatar f tn You could be B12 deficient from being vegan. If you were deficient in B12 you would have to get shots for it. By diet it takes a long time to get your B12 stores back. I guess the other think after that would be to go to a lyme specialist even though you had a lyme test done. I would start with the more obvious tests and go from there.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with type II diabetes, and my physician at the time immediately put me on actoplusmet (no discussion of diet and excersise control first). I told him that I previously had gestational diabetes that once on diet alone caused my blood sugar levels to drop so low that the meter read in the 40's and sometimes just LOW. The nutritionsts then changed my diet so that it was double portion sizes and everything read perfectly.
Avatar n tn I am a strict vegetarian, although I go vegan as much as possible. I work two jobs and go to college, so I am on the move a good bit, but I try to exercise when I have spare time. If anyone has any dieting tips, recipes, excersise tips, or anything else, feel free to comment!
Avatar f tn I have been on the vegan diet for a month now. Recently I have noticed ttat occasionally I get real shaky, lightheaded between meals.
Avatar m tn After being diagnosed with arthritis at 30, I went to a mostly vegan, mostly organic diet and eliminated dairy. The results have been amazing. Watch Food, Inc.
