hypoglycemia

649848 tn?1534633700 ve had the GTT, my doctor says instead of pre-diabetes, I have Reactive Hypoglycemia... Because of the pre-diabetes diagnosis, I have tried to follow a diabetic diet for some time to prevent full blown diabetes; however, since having this test, I find myself starving and getting weak/shakey within a short period of eating, no matter what kind of food I eat. I also have Hashimoto's/hypothyroidism.
1348086 tn?1370783185 I am not a doctor but I do suffer from hypoglycemia where if I don't eat I get dizzy and feel like I am going to pass out. I have had this since I was a teen and am not diabetic at all and after years of only eating 2 tiny bits of food a day, of course to lose weight as teens are prone to doing, I learned that 7 protein meals a day kept my blood sugar running nice and smooth.
Avatar f tn You may have pre-diabetes, and need to go on a diabetic diet. Meanwhile, make sure you have both protein and carbohydrates with all meals, and with all snacks, which you seem to be doing. You also might need to get a dietary consult and/or see an endocrinologist, for both are specially trained in working with people with blood sugar problems.
Avatar n tn org/diseases-conditions/hypoglycemia/symptoms-causes/syc-20373685 There is something called reactive hypoglycemia. In people without diabetes, hypoglycemia can result from the body producing too much insulin after a meal, causing blood sugar levels to drop. This is called reactive hypoglycemia. Reactive hypoglycemia can be an early sign of diabetes. https://www.diabetes.
Avatar n tn Hi there! I'm a 22 year old college student, and I've been a "fasting" hypoglycemic since I was a kid. I'm non-diabetic and they are unsure of the true cause of my hypoglycemia... though they think that it has to do with several genetic factors. I'm here because I'm hoping someone can answer some questions for me because my hypoglycemia has been really severe this year...
1662361 tn?1302762372 I am 23, I know I am over weight, I diet and exercise but never loss weight. I have been test for diabetes since I was 12, and my levels have always been low. I have noticed lately tho when I test because my mom and grandma are diabetic that my sugar levels are from 50 to maybe 75 no matter what I eat. I snack on granola and some times hard candy and sometimes cookies. I just feel sick all the time, and dizzy and i get really shaky and, Nothing I have been doing is working.
Avatar n tn I can make the woozy go away by eating glucose tabs or carbs/sugar. I have balanced my diet and reduced food intake (carbs/proteins)...sort of like the diet of a hypoglysemic. If I eat too much at breakfast, I get woozy within an hour or two then it goes away. My ears are ringing. I sleep good and feel good when I get up but must be careful to eat a balanced breakfast & not eat too much or I will get woozy. My urine color looks normal.
Avatar f tn I followed the diabetic diet, mostly. I always made sure to eat every two hours, avoided refined sugar and carbs (anything that's going to cause a big dump of insulin, because the rebound hypoglycemia and drop your numbers very low). Avoid junk food. Make sure you get protein. I ate a lot of peanut butter on wheat and milk. Good luck!
Avatar n tn The pediatrician gave us the result of ketonic hypoglycemia. Is there a special diet i need to put him on? How often would he have episodes? And could he have had a one time only episode?
Avatar m tn but I DO have non-diabetic hypoglycemia (as diagnosed by my endocrinologist after nearly a year of testing). Apparently we are a very rare group, and so it's not unusual for non-diabetic hypoglycemics to end up here via an online search. Maybe you want to ban us all, but please do not cause confusion by giving misleading information. Non-Diabetic Hypoglycemia is NOT NOT NOT Type 1 diabetes. Please check your facts before posting misleading information.

1654177 tn?1319838494 Anyway, I told my doctor at Kaiser and she ran a random blood glucose test (non-fasting). My blood sugar was 68 ml/dl, the standard range is 70-140 ml/dl. She says to just eat less carbs and do more cardio exercise, and that this could be pre-diabetes. The part that concerns me is the numb feet. I have cut down carbs in the past 2 weks and continued to exercise more, but still my feet are numb, and hurt sometimes. Any advice?
Avatar m tn my question is why i feel weak and energyless even if i have controlled my diabetic
Avatar n tn Hi - I'm new here. I have pre-diabetes (about 2 years now) and have autoimmune degenerative neuropathy (CIDP for 26 years) unrelated to diabetes. I am not overweight, and am 32 years of age. My question is: does inflammation in the nervous system cause alterations in glucose metabolism? I'm currently having multiple daily bouts of hypoglycemia - my doctors can't/won't answer my question. I'm taking IVIG, Imuran and Ultram - no steroids or antidiabetics.
Avatar f tn I had another question I meant to add to my last post. I was put on Metformin when found out I had Insulin resistant Reactive Hypoglycemia. I took for a month & noticed there was no refill. I called nurse & was told they wanted to make sure I was not Diabetic. My question.......what symptoms would I have on Metformin that would be a sign of that & not Hypoglycemia. When I did my glucose test .....think I was tested 5 times....first was 166 and last 44.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed at 28 weeks and really did not want yo inject insulin. I spoke to my doc about it and he said if I can control it with diet I wouldn't have to. Also, if I ran the risk of causing any damage to my baby from it going untreated I told him I would 100% take it. Happy to say I'm 32 weeks on sat and have been at a healthy sugar level (below 7) since Dec 23rd.
687079 tn?1230948612 what could cause reaccurent severe hypoglycemia in a type 2 diabetic who does not take any medicine or insulin and is diet controlled?
Avatar n tn What are her chances of becoming diabetic? Her doctor said hypoglycemia sometimes precedes diabetes in children. Is is possible to "grow out of" hypoglycemia? If so, what are the chances of this happening?
Avatar n tn Your description does sound to me (a long-time type 1 diabetic) to be very much like symptoms of severe hypoglycemia. If she feels bad after she runs despite the diet with low glycemic index foods, you may want to keep some Gatorade handy for her to sip immediately after a run. Or even give her a cup somewhere in the middle of the run if she is allowed to drink something.
Avatar n tn And also, when it is the mom that is diabetic as opposed to the dad-to-be, statistics show that the chance of having diabetic children is only VERY slightly higher than the chance of a non-diabetic mom having diabetic children. Type 1 diabetic dads for some reason have an increased chance of having their children become type 1 diabetics, but for the type 1 diabetic mom-to-be, the news is good. Your kids will probably be very healthy and normal.
Avatar n tn Diabetes by definition is high blood sugar, if you were an undiagnosed diabetic you would never have a low blood sugar episode. It would be quite the opposite. You may have hypoglycemia which a lot of people have. It flares up if you don't eat often enough, or if you don't eat a balanced diet. Depending on the severity. Generally with hypoglycemia as long as you eat three meals/day you are alright. PS. it's normal to weigh more before bed then in the morning.
Avatar f tn Two more thoughts. A lot of people don't take hypoglycemia seriously as I'm sure you have noticed over the years. I have to admit I was one of those people who thought people were just complaining. Then I was in Costa Rica with a friend and her husband. We had a hard time finding a place we wanted to have lunch and then the service was very slow so we were starving. I am a Type 1 diabetic, my friend's husband is a Type 2 diabetic and my friend also said she was hypoglycemic.
Avatar n tn I'm a 32-year-old female. I've been sick with strep, mono, yeast infections, bladder infections, more strep and more yeast infections for the past 8 months. I've been tired and just feel bad over-all. My vision has changed, my toe has fungus and I seem to have all of the symptoms of diabetes. I was tested for hypoglycemia about three years ago and it was 117. I saw my doctor last week for a follow up strep appointment and mentioned diabetes to him.
