You also might need to get a dietary consult and/or see an endocrinologist, for both are specially trained in working with people with blood sugar problems.
Avatar f tn If it is hypoglycemia, which I tend to doubt, 2 hours after meals is the least likely time. More likely is first thing in the morning or right before you are due to eat a meal.But if you are taking your blood sugar when you feel the worst and it is not low, then obviously something else is going on. I'm sorry I'm not a doctor and couldn't begin to guess what it all indicates, and not even sure which forum would be useful to ask.
Avatar f tn Went for a normal physical with fasting labs. I got a call from my doctor two days later and my glucose was 56. They were concerned about me being possibly hypoglycemic. Been checking it on and off and reading a lot on the subject but no definite answer as to what I need to be watching for in the future. It ranges from being in the 60s to 120s. The highest I've ever saw it go is 122 but that was two hours after eating.
Avatar n tn If your fasting blood sugar is okay you probably just get on the low side and start to feel gittery and irritable. I am like that too. So, yes protein and the complex carbs both work. Just eat either one more often and have smaller meals or have a snack with you so when you feel like that you can boost yourself up. I personally feel better now that I'm on a vegan diet. I eat a whole plant based diet with complex carbs and veggies and vanilla soy milk. I don't get as gittery.
1348086 tn?1370783185 I get that sometimes too. I have hypoglycemia that comes and goes but eating a healthier diet keeps it at bay. I do not have diabetes but it runs in my family so I keep an eye on it. I have more of a "reactive" hypoglycemia which means when I eat or drink something too loaded with sugar or empty carbs, it will make me crash within an hour or so. Then I have to grap something to stabalize it again.

When it falls low I cannot function. The last really bad episode of this I could hardly breathe, complete mental confusion, weak all over, headache, heart palpitations, very scary to say the least. After eating a portion of red meat and vegetables with 2 bites of roasted potato my sugar would drop to 64. I was hospitalized for a 72 hour fast with a suspected insulinoma. After the hourly sugar checks and every 6 hour insulin, proinsulin and c peptide tests, insulinoma was ruled out.

My blood sugar is no longer high in the mornings ( usually between 87-93) but now I've noticed it goes down to about 71-75 two hours after eating. I started checking it at one hour after eating and one time it was 139 then at the two hour mark it was 71.

I think this is hypoglycemia but not totally sure and I'm going to ask my doctor on Monday at my appt. It happened here and there a few weeks ago but now it's been happening every day and its awful. I end up literally stuffing my face with anything I can find that has sugar because my body feels like that's my only instinct. Then after like 20 minutes of eating and putting my head down I feel better.

There are now medications that you can take that will help also. I would highly recommend that you see an endocrinologist and get some treatment. The low blood pressure in combination with hypoglycemia can be very scary and dangerous. The treatment is really easy and very successful.

There must be a cause why I am having this problem (if I have it) because I don't think that its normal in people without diabetes.

Avatar n tn I do not know if it is possinble to grow out of hypoglycemia, but with the proper diet, this may become much less of a problem. I wish I had some answers. If there is anyone out there who knows more about hypoglycemia, please respond.
