Hypoglycemia diagnosis

Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia diagnosis

hypoglycemia

Avatar f tn It seems as though Reactive Hypoglycemia exists in some people entirely separate from any diagnosis of diabetes. (but they check to make sure as hypoglycemia is a symptom often experienced by diabetics). The "insulin resistant" part (which is a characteristic as well of Type II diabetes) in people diagnosed with Reactive Hypoglycemia is related to the chemical process that causes the Hypoglycemia (an excess of insulin).
Avatar n tn Is severe Hypoglycemia a sign of Diabetes? I have had a normal fasting blood tests. My hypoglycemia strikes with no warning many times throughout the day, even as soon as an hour after my meals. I have to carry glucose tablets and orange juice with me at all times. When it falls low I cannot function. The last really bad episode of this I could hardly breathe, complete mental confusion, weak all over, headache, heart palpitations, very scary to say the least.
Avatar n tn Her endocronologist first thought hypoglycemia and referred us to a nutritionist but the doctor is now not so sure that she is hypoglycemic. We are confused, concerned and hoped someone could shed light on the right questions to ask, the right direction to go. Thanks in advance.
1055725 tn?1265869375 Hypoglycemia is one of the symptoms of diabetes and just means low blood sugar. Some people however, have a diagnosis of just hypoglycemia, without the diabetes. That is very different. Your symptoms might relate to either one, or they might not. Some other symptoms of diabetes are increased hunger and thirst. Some people however are diabetic without experiencing any symptoms at all. The bottom line is that it is easy to get your blood sugars checked to see if there is something going on.
649848 tn?1534633700 ve had the GTT, my doctor says instead of pre-diabetes, I have Reactive Hypoglycemia... Because of the pre-diabetes diagnosis, I have tried to follow a diabetic diet for some time to prevent full blown diabetes; however, since having this test, I find myself starving and getting weak/shakey within a short period of eating, no matter what kind of food I eat. I also have Hashimoto's/hypothyroidism.

On a personal note, it is generally considered unsafe to simply stop one's medications, especially if that change was not planned for with your doctor. Hope you'll call your doc, get a referral to an endo -- and let us know what you find out.
Avatar n tn My daughter was diagnosed yesterday by her doctor with hypoglycemia and her blood sugar was 80. I am not finding much about this on the internet but what I have found does not say this is a bad level. This was at about 11 am in the morning with nothing to eat of drink since night before. Should I be doing anything but helping her with diet and excercise and does this seem to be in the hypo range to you?
Avatar m tn Some people experience hypoglycemia for many years off and on before a diagnosis of diabetes. You may also have had diabetes for quite awhile and dismissed it as just hypoglycemia. If you have developed neuropathy that is probably the case. All you can do now is treat the neuropathy and control your blood sugar with a combination of weight loss, exercise, lowering carb intake and oral meds or insulin as prescribed by your doctor.
Avatar f tn Trembling, fatigue and headaches after meals may be caused by postprandial hypoglycemia or reactive hypoglycemia. To verify this diagnosis, you need to check your blood sugar level ( a blood glucose level that falls below 70mg/dL). This condition usually occurs in individuals who do not have diabetes. Associated symptoms include sweating, dizziness, anxiety, confusion, weakness and difficulty with speech.
Avatar n tn In one study, of thirty-nine patients who had tumors in the pancreas, a condition causing profound hypoglycemia, eight were first diagnosed with epilepsy or neurosis! Detection and diagnosis of hypoglycemia can lead to treatment that can totally correct this condition. Even if the symptoms are vague and seemingly subjective (which makes most doctors want to shy away from this diagnosis), if you're the one experiencing them, they can destroy the quality of your life.
Avatar n tn My 8 year old daughter was diagnosed with Hashimotos and sever Hypoglycemia at the same time, is there a link between these two disorders?
Avatar f tn I have hep c and recently diagnosed woith hypoglycemia im very scared what will happen to me TY KRISTINE SMITH
Avatar n tn I have never read that any blood or metabolic disorder causes brain lesions. Hypoglycemia is not a mimic of MS that has to be ruled out before an MS diagnosis can be made. Would you explain more about why you feel the two are related, or that one underlying illness could be causing both? Is this because of the timing, and you believe it is not a coincidence? I haven't heard that hypo is an autoimmune disorder.
Avatar n tn Hi, I did drink far too much in my 20s to mid 30s or so, and I lowered my intake a great deal sometime in my mid to late 30s.I am now 44. About two years back I would have occasional attacks in the upper belly at night, once in a blue that were excruciating. They woudl die down and nothing more happened. I also had been chronically worrying for literally YEARS, and having "butterflies" in the tummy all the time.
560501 tn?1383612740 Wow! I'm starting to see a bit of a "trend" several of us do in fact overlap w/ dx..........
Avatar n tn This could possibly be a condition known as Hypoglycemia and is definitely worth asking your doctor about. Hypoglycemia occurs around two hours after a high carb meal. The pancreas over secretes insulin due to the rapid rise in the blood sugar and then the low blood sugar results. I would definitely have this studied further. Have a wonderful day.
Avatar m tn Hi In 1957 I probably had an autoimmune reaction (think what happens when you get type 1 diabetes). In 1964 I took a glucose tolerance test because I get hypoglycemia many hours after eating too much sugar/starch/alchol (S). It was 70 1/2 hr 130 1 hr 175 2 hr 185 extended 3 hr 100 very minor low sugar episode about 4 hr. (no reading). My A1C has been about 6 since the test has been invented. My highest fasting blood sugar has been 90. Am I prediabetic?
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Hypoglycemia many years ago but never gave it much thought or consideration. When I felt sick or faintish after not eating for many hours I would just grab something quick and ignor the whole matter. I didn't think hypoglycemia was anything to worry about until lately. Over the last couple of months I've experiecened tingling and numbness in my hands, feet, lips and felt tingling sensations all over my body.
Avatar m tn Some folks experience a period of hypoglycemia preceeding their diagnosis of diabetes. I visualize this period as one in which the pancreas is spittin' and spurtin' because it's under duress and will, eventually poop out to some extent. That's not a medical explanation, but to me it seems to fit the process that some eventual-diabetics have gone thru. I get the feeling that you're not satisfied with the analysis and interpretations that you doc has given you thus far.
Avatar n tn Since blood glucose levels can fluctuate widely in healthy subjects, and symptoms of hypoglycemia can be vague and nonspecific, establishing the diagnosis of hypoglycemia as the cause of symptoms is often difficult. When symptoms of hypoglycemia occur together with a documented blood glucose under 45 mg/dl, and the symptoms promptly resolve with the administration of glucose, the diagnosis can be made with more certainty. WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF HYPOGLYCEMIA?
Avatar f tn Yes, they are equal in both arms & lets. No, the Neurologist didn't say anything about following up again. And yes all he did was a basic Neurological exam (like refexes & such), nothing more than that. I just don't know where else to go to get a diagnosis or even to rule things out. Thanks for asking.
Avatar n tn The most common causes are Hypotension, Anemia, Dehydration and Hypoglycemia. I would suggest you to get your blood pressure and sugar levels {fasting and post lunch} checked and get a complete blood picture done to rule out Anemia. The other possible causes could be hyperventilation, inner ear diseases, cardiac arrhythmias, stroke and brain tumors. Get the blood sugar evaluated and an ECG done.CT brain is also useful if a brain injury is suspected to be the cause of vertigo.
1852495 tn?1319545790 Most people like a slice of cake, but craving sweet foods might be a sign you have reactive hypoglycemia. Before my diagnosis, I used to crave sugar-loaded foods like chocolate cake from my local coffee shop, smothered with sugary frosting. I would swear that the cake would lift my mood. And the truth was…it did. It elevated my blood sugar levels and made me feel better.
Avatar m tn -Normal sinus rhythm, resting heart rate of ~70 bpm. -Sinus tachycardia on moving from a prone position to sitting or standing, generally an increase of 30-40 bpm. Tachycardia also present on minimal physical exertion (climbing stairs, walking) -Frequent fatigue that is not relieved by sleep or resting -Dyspnea while lying down and with minimal physical exertion.

I would talk to your doctor about how to keep your range at as consistent of a level as possible. https://www.diabetesselfmanagement.com/blog/diabetes-headaches-soothing-aching-head/ Talk to your doctor about this.
Avatar f tn Is anyone else having hypoglycemia (which is low blood sugar abt an hr or 2 after meals)? I'm 26wks and been having it for around a week now.How do u usually deal with it when it strikes?
Avatar n tn Hi - I'm new here. I have pre-diabetes (about 2 years now) and have autoimmune degenerative neuropathy (CIDP for 26 years) unrelated to diabetes. I am not overweight, and am 32 years of age. My question is: does inflammation in the nervous system cause alterations in glucose metabolism? I'm currently having multiple daily bouts of hypoglycemia - my doctors can't/won't answer my question. I'm taking IVIG, Imuran and Ultram - no steroids or antidiabetics.
