Hypoglycemia and the brain

Common Questions and Answers about Hypoglycemia and the brain

hypoglycemia

1773104 tn?1314155711 Certainly hypoglycemia can trigger anxiety and panic, but rarely would it be the sole cause behind it. It is common for someone new to anxiety to do serious soul searching to try and find a logical "reason" behind the new emergence of anxiety and panic. We turn into detectives and try to find a sensible reason why it showed up (most times seemingly "out of the blue").
Avatar n tn I am dizzy and nausea after eating what is it, I have had my blood sugar tested several times at the clinic and all come back normal, a few years ago a doctor had me get MRI of brain done and it was fine but still no answers. I can go months with out a dizzy spell and all of a sudden have them all the time. Any comments or suggestions would be helpfull. Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn Hi depending on the symptoms u present ur Drs will do testing like MRI's to look for signs something may be wrong or a cause of the symptoms..... Have u been to the dr?.,....what symptoms do u have that make u wonder this?

Avatar f tn I can not seem to maintain my level and have been dizzy, nausuous and all the other symptons. It is hard to eat 6 meals a day as I work. I try to eat whole grains, and don't use sugar. I just can't keep my level up. Why does it drop? how can I prevent that?
Avatar n tn ve also had an echocardiogram for palpitations and and brain MRI for headaches/lightheadedness. And yes, I do eat before I workout. Do you know what's wrong with me? Do I need some kind of major workup? I am 30 yrs old.
Avatar n tn So it is not something out of the blue, but something that creeps up and gets worse and worse as the hypo is left untreated and the brain becomes more and more unable to function properly to control the body's activities. Hormonal swings in women can make diabetic women more prone to this problem at the end of their monthly cycle, and of course other things such as stress or activity can also affect your body's ability to go the long 8-hour period of sleep without food.
Avatar n tn I have FREQUENT hypoglycemia with neuroglycopenic (brain) effects which I have been to 7 endocrinologists and we are still unable to find the reason, but I FULLY believe the spots and the sugar drops are connected. Diet makes no difference. I am having symptomwise neurologically: A bit more difficulty gathering thoughts, unfulfilled sleep, hot baths & showers make me very very weak for a day or so, video games make me nauseous and confused, and I'm depressed.
Avatar n tn hey, My friend has Hydrocephalus and has a shunt. unfortunately, this causes her to not eat much because everything she eats makes her sick, which I'm assuming is what resulted in her also being hypoglycemic. I've read that orange juice, apple juice, and grape juice are good ways to help hypoglycemia but both of those make her sick! aside from getting IV's is there anything she can take, or eat that has a low chance of making her feel sick, but will help her hypoglycemia?
Avatar m tn What are you actually craving with these air hunger symptoms? Also antidepressants are brain altering and even through the anxiety is controlled by these meds - the brain can shut off certain hormones that control appetite and trigger hunger. That is why weight gain is very common with bi polar - anxiety medication.
Avatar m tn I had the same question, moon94. Here is what I found (not verified for accuracy)... Answer: There is not a huge amount of information about concomitant use of marijuana in people with diabetes. Harold Starkman wrote a chapter in a textbook I edited many years ago, and there are periodic articles that have been published since that time that say pretty much the same thing we learned from our own experiences and from the literature review we did.
1211508 tn?1343079605 What could cause acute temporary shortage of blood or O2 to the brain? And how would I know if I have anemia? I've been under anxiety lately and have GAD (general anxiety disorder) with agoraphobia but the lightheaded spells always happen after I eat. Also can high anxiety and near panic states cause one to feel faint and or nauseous (like throwing up)?
Avatar m tn 2 days ago i was in a friends house watching a film when i started to feel a liitle bit sick then moments later my head felt like it was "filling up" with blood my brain felt like it "switched off" for a split second i paniced and almost fell of my seat is this something i should be concerned about?? should i go see my dr??
Avatar m tn It can as inflammation in the nose and sinuses can cause inflammation around the Eustachian tube, which is the tube that runs from the back of the nose to the middle ear and is responsible for draining the middle ear of fluid. If there is Eustachian tube dysfunction from nose or sinus inflammation, fluid can remain in the middle ear which can lead to dizziness.
Avatar n tn Hi all, I'm a type 1 diabetic and I had a severe hypoglycemic episode 2 days ago while I was sleeping, requiring my wife to give me glucagon. It was three days after a previous episode (also sleeping), and I am still feeling a bit "foggy." I feel woozy and vaguely off-balance, and the closest analogy I can give to the feeling is that of a vicious, vicious hangover.
Avatar n tn For syncope/fainting to occur, either the reticular activating system in the brain needs to lose its blood supply, or both hemispheres of the brain need to be deprived of blood, oxygen, or glucose. So it can be due to fall in BP, hypoglycemia, dehydration and inadequate electrolytes(sodium and calcium) in the body, postural hypotension, blockage of arteries supplying blood to the brain esp. the carotids, anemia, vasovagal attacks or underlying neurological conditions.
Avatar n tn Oh, one more symptom to watch out for... when hypoglycemic, you can be very forgetful. Can't remember lists of things, and can start out to do something and walk maybe 50 feet and realize that you lost that thought entirely and can't remember what it was you were heading out to do. You can read a page of notes or in a book and none of the words "take" at all.
Avatar n tn t need to eat that much to get this effect and the relief occurs within seconds to minutes of eating, faster than my body should be able to get any nourishment from what I've eaten. These symptoms are generally a prelude to a migraine headache, although not every time. I am not overweight and eat fairly healthy but am concerned as I am thinking of starting a family but would like to have my health in order first. Anybody have similar symptoms or a possible explanation for this?
Avatar f tn I am also very fatigued most of the day, but the fatigue and brain fog lessen before I go to bed, making it more difficult to fall asleep at an appropriate time. I usually fall asleep around 3 or 4 in the morning, but have to wake up around 10 a.m. I try and take naps, but they don't help and often, make it worse. I also have been experiencing nausea every day for the past 3 months, off and on for the past 4 years. Whenever I vomit, it's almost too acidic to stand.
Avatar n tn s disease, decreased blood supply to brain, diseases of the eye. Pins and needles sensation is caused by neuropathy due to stress, anxiety, hypoglycemia, diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, anemia. Without complete examination, it is not possible to speculate on the cause for your problems. Please consult a neurologist for further evaluation. Do keep me posted.
Avatar f tn When they performed the MRI they found legions on my brain, some in the area where MS lesions would be and one that is larger than the others. They did perform a visual, auditory and electrod tests and various blood work which everything came back as normal. I did speak to a neurologist specialist for MS, he said he could not rule it in or out because I have no other symptoms of MS.
Avatar n tn She spills ketones and we have Hashimotos, Addisons, Type II Diabetes and Pituitary tumors in our family and all came back normal (clean MRI of brain and pituitary). This roller coaster is scary for all involved and it seems the information is so limited for this age group. The lowest my daughter has gone is low 30s and each time it seems to go lower faster.
Avatar n tn Hello, I hope you'll find this information useful... If you would like to know more this subject you could join the diabetes Forum. http://www.medhelp.org/forums/Diabetes---Adult-Type-II/show/46 While there is some degree of variability among people, most will usually develop symptoms suggestive of hypoglycemia when blood glucose levels are lowered to the mid 60's.
Avatar f tn Hi am Manuel from Ghana, and i kinda think i'm familiar with hypoglycemia or neuroglycopenia (Brain related condition symptoms) and am sorry you we all feel that way. I think i can be of a little help. Cos ive been through such numerous symptons before even sometimes still do, but know how manage and cope with it. Ive helped a lot of people with conditions above mentioned and even neuropathy etc. Please do you know your blood type? If yes, can you tell me?
Avatar f tn My daughter is also in college, and had the same symptoms. It was from low iron, occasional hypoglycemia and intestinal yeast overgrowth. I took her to a clinical nutritionist who ordered blood and urine tests, food allergy tests and nutrient tests. After a change in eating habits, she no longer has these problems. You might want to consider having your parents help you find a good nutritionist who will test for these possibilities.
Avatar n tn I must assume that you have already done a web-based search on the words "hypoglycemia and ECG". I did so and found lots of articles on studies involving the hypoglycemic condition and cardiology tests. I do know from first-hand experience during years before the advent of some of the new insulins that match our digestion rates well that hypoglycemia can cause some chest sensations of pressure.
