Avatar f tn Further diagnostic studies to confirm cardiac injury are indicated in at-risk patients. Rule out other causes of elevated troponin levels, especially in critically ill patients—elevated levels have been linked to increased mortality and negative patient outcomes. Finally, to correctly evaluate troponin values, you'll need to be familiar with the specific assays and normal reference ranges used in the lab where blood samples are obtained".

Avatar f tn Indeed, acinetobacter infections have been identified in hospitalized patients and health care related outbreaks especially in critically ill patients receiving invasive medical interventions such as central lines, arterial lines, and mechanical ventilation . And in recent years, like methyl resistant staph aureaus, this group of microorganism has been increasingly recognized as a significant healthcare-associated, opportunistic, multidrug-resistant pathogen.
Avatar m tn Hi Kelley. I'm so sorry to hear about your little boxer. Pancreatitis is a terrible disease for dogs (and people) to endure. If your vet hasn't yet performed an ultrasound, that will be the next step. They'll need to check to see how swollen the pancreas is, if there is something like a tumor or pseudo-cyst, or even a birth defect causing the trouble. It's even possible there is something blocking the pancreatitic or common bile duct at the root of the problem.
Avatar n tn In the past week when he tests his blood at bedtime it is in the normal range - he eats his bedtime snack and takes his usual dose of Novarapid and the NPH insulin. Within a half hour or so, she notices his abnormal behaviour and urges him to re-test. His blood sugar level is less than 2. She is concerned because he had a normal reading less than an hour before and eaten his normal snack - but what could be causing his sugars to be so low at this time?
Avatar m tn s worth, my grandfather had a quad bypass at 84 and did great. He was in great shape and breezed through it and it extended his life another 13 years. He too was very active and quite strong so it was an option and we're all glad he did. Good luck to you and her!
Avatar f tn Severe drug shortages, particularly at hospitals and cancer centers, are causing critically ill patients to go without potentially life-saving drugs, driving up health care costs astronomically and creating an underworld of “gray market” drugs. While conspiratorial theories about the shortages run rampant with unabated finger pointing, it is sad that the profession of pharmacy apparently cannot clean its own house on this issue.
Avatar n tn some patients their stomachs began to process food very close to the 4th hour - but there was some processing, which is extremely important for the docs to know how best to treat their patients and to help them have as much GOOD quality of life in their lives that they can. Avatar f tn Notable prolongation of the prothrombin time was always present initially and antedated other abnormalities of hepatic function. Three of seven patients in this group survived. Avatar m tn They wrapped me in a blanket and set me up and fed me apple sauce, which they keep on hand for their diabetic patients, to bring up my blood sugar. There wasn't a BG monitor in the office that morning. I was told to eat something before coming in for my next appointment. For that appointment, I took a Glucose tablet. No problems during that visit.
Avatar f tn I would see your doctor about this very soon, as folks with hypoglycemia may develop diabetes later on. You may have pre-diabetes, and need to go on a diabetic diet. Meanwhile, make sure you have both protein and carbohydrates with all meals, and with all snacks, which you seem to be doing. You also might need to get a dietary consult and/or see an endocrinologist, for both are specially trained in working with people with blood sugar problems.
408795 tn?1324935675 Rapid virologic response occurs in approximately 15% of patients with HCV genotype 1 and 66% of patients with HCV genotypes 2 or 3 treated with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin. It is critically important to identify patients with RVR because these patients have up to a 90% SVR rate if they remain on treatment for 48 weeks for HCV genotype 1 infections (and 24 weeks for HCV genotype 2 and 3 infections).
Avatar n tn Type 2 diabetes is most often diagnosed in adulthood, but there has been an increase in children and adolescents now being diagnosed. The sedentary life-style and increase in obesity has led to this increase in both children and adults. Nearly one third of the 16 millions Americans with Type 2 diabetes do not know that they have it. There are approximately 16 million more Americans with "pre-Type 2".

Had problems with my blood sugar dropping way before any of these issues started, so not sure what that may be about.
Avatar n tn Symptoms of hypoglycemia occur at different levels of blood glucose in different patients. In most healthy individuals, symptoms of hypoglycemia may not occur until the glucose level drops below 45 mg/dl. In elderly people, and in patients with chronically high glucose levels (such as patients with poorly controlled diabetes), the symptoms of hypoglycemia can occur at higher glucose levels.

489228 tn?1291531454 I have gone on a website listing different kinds of abuse and I am seeing definate patterns that establish these actions as abuse but what can patients do and where should they turn. Where can they turn for help with finances and attorneys etc. as well as the emotional support to do what needs to be done as well as deal with the negative issues in the kids. Every where says to go for help but where, TRUTHFULLY how do they get real truth and real protection!!
