Avatar m tn I take topical testosterone, lisinopril for BP, cymbalta for depression, hydrocodone for pain and robaxin as needed for spasms. I'm a non-smoker, non drinker and don't use recreational drugs. Please help me get an idea of what is going on. I'm scheduled to see a rheumatologist but can't get in for 2 months and I'm not sure I can wait that long.
Avatar m tn I read a few posts where folks had their hormones checked and the results were lower than normal so their doc put them on testosterone. I'm 47 so believed my lower levels were normal (did get tested) but getting a boost at this age would be great...did the hormones really help? If they did, what were some of the positive things, negs of taking the hormones? I try not to think about possible damage from opiates and the combined Tylenol after years of use...only looking towards the future.
Avatar m tn Been taking about 4-5 pills of 10/500 Hydrocodone since january..It started with knee surgery and I just got hooked on them. I was going through a break up at the same time and I liked how they make me feel happy so now I'm hooked..I want to get off because they are preventing muscle growth , at least I think, and I'm trying to hit the gym really hard..I know they lower testosterone so they must have some impact on muscle growth..What is the best way for me to get off.?
Avatar m tn I have had the sterioid injections and taken handfuls of steroids but nothing seemed to help. About three years ago I started self medicating with hydrocodone. I started taking the 5 milligrams pills but soon moved to the 10 miligrams. At my max I was taking about 8 10/325's a day. I did this for about three years but knew it was a losing battle with a drug that you can never have enough of. I thought that taking the drug and being numb was the answer.
Avatar n tn I am a 45 year old man whose 20-40 pounds overweight but otherwise in reasonable health. I'm disabled with chronic neck, back, and fibromyalgia pain. Avatar f tn My question is if ah continues to abuse pills and his tolerance continues to grow would he also have to keep going up in dose on whatever the dr prescribes for this? Do testosterone levels go down in connection with the amount and strenght of opiates used? IE, vicodin causes it to lower a bit so they just dont think about sex, percocets cause it to lower more to the point they have trouble getting aroused and then oxy's just wipe the T level and the sex drive out?
Avatar m tn Hi, How are you? Testosterone has been used for many decades for the treatment of testosterone deficient males.Today options for treatment include topical testosterone gels and creams, short and long acting injections of testosterone esters, application of testosterone through skin patches, subcutaneous testosterone implants, and oral testosterone capsules. The injection is given deep intra-muscular and is quite often painful.

I’m on testosterone replacement therapy since August of 2009 but I’m afraid of the possible side effects like prostate problem. My question, is it possible if I decide to discontinue my testosterone replacement therapy? I really need your opinion.

Avatar f tn Yes, there are two tests. Total Testosterone will give a measure of both attached and free testosterone. And Free Testosterone is more specific and only measures free testosterone. Total T is the typical first test to get for diagnostic purposes. It's probably always the first test in hypogonadism. And normal range is usually (most labs) 300 to 800. About 1 to 2% (in most men) is free testosterone. The rest is attached. Free testosterone floats around and is biologically active.
Avatar m tn The total testosterone consists of two forms of testosterone; one is bound to SHBG and the other is free-circulating testosterone unattached to serum proteins. In conditions such as hypothyroidism and cirrhosis, measurement of the total testosterone level may be normal but the patient may have symptoms of low testosterone. In these conditions, the SHBG is increased and this decreases the amount of testosterone that is available for use.

Avatar m tn t really know for sure if the hot flashes are caused by a drop in testosterone. (Your testosterone might be the same level it has always been.) If you want to test the notion that the low testosterone has caused the hot flashes, take the testosterone for a month, and see if the hot flashes go away.
Avatar m tn As I understand it, when one injects testosterone (lets say Testosterone Enanthate) the body converts (with an enzyme) the excess testosterone into estrogen. The pituitary gland also senses this huge influx of testosterone and sends a message to the testes in the form of Oestrogen to shut down the bodies natural production of testosterone.
Avatar n tn Hello, The typical male testosterone level is between 250ng/dl to 850 ng/dl. The primary treatment for low testosterone is testosterone supplement. Testosterone replacement therapy may be in the form of skin gel, injections, long acting pellets, patches or oral inserts. Clomid is not the primary treatment mode for testosterone deficiency. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar n tn I did have a question for you on your testosterone. These ranges are different than ours over here and i wanted to know if this is testosterone FREE or TOTAL>? can you find out? The total is the important once, but free still needs to be within an acceptable range. This may also help contribute to the libido issue.
