Common Questions and Answers about Hydrocodone for cough

vicodin

I HAVE TAKEN HYDROCODONE FOR ABOUT A YEAR. ONLY THREE A DAY AS RX ADVISED FOR A MAJOR BACK INJURY. I DO NOT GET AROUND VERY WELL WITHOUT THE MEDS. THEY DO WORK, AND I NEVER GET A HIGH FROM THEM, JUST REDUCED PAIN. LAST WEEK I SAID I WILL STOP TAKING THE TABS FOR A FEW DAY TO MAKE SURE THERE IS NO PROBLEMS. LET ME TELL YOU WHAT, I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY TYPE OF WITHDRAWL ETC... AND AS A RETIRED 20 POLICE OFFICER VET. NEVER USED DRUGS. THE WITHDRAWLS AFTER 48 HOURS WERE OUT OF THIS WORLD.
I was given Hydrocodone for my upper respitory infection to help with cough and sleep better. The paper says it may interact with some medicines. Does it interact with birth control?
That has to be for me the worst symptom of withdrawals. I would cough and cough and cough and not be able to sleep. Well....I couldn't sleep anyways but that added to it! I sucked on menthol cough drops all night while I was sleeping and now that I think about it I could have choked. I already have bad allergy symptoms and sinus problems so if you do too then you probably were just masking them with the meds and now you actually can tell something is wrong.
Check with his doctor to see if he could take any of a number of cough medicines to relieve his cough, such as Tussionex® (hydrocodone) and any of a number of codeine containing cough syrups.
Ask your doctor for more potent cough suppressants (e.g. codeine or hydrocodone) since it sounds like any infection is gone after antibiotics, but you're still coughing like crazy...
Instead of whatever she was supposed to get.. Usually for post op tonsilitis they give liquid Loritab or liquid hydro that comes like cough syrup.. This doesn't sound right>..

I have been trying to detox from hydrocodone for some time now. Here is my story, maybe you can help. The short story. Back in December 2000 I broke my back at work. My doctor prescribed hydrocodone as the pain killer, starting at 5mg/500. I worked with this broken back for five years while steadily increasing my dose to 10mg/650 X 8 pills a day. At one point I was actually on fentanyl 100 patches along with the eight hydrocodone pills each day. All under the watchful eye of my doctor.
There are sooo many drugs that are given for other reasons (allergies, pain meds, anti-nausea, etc) that are cough suppressants as well. i/e hydrocodone (one brand name is lortab) is also a cough suppressant, phenergan (anti nausea) is also a cough suppressant...Of course the examples I gave are rx and not recommended for children. benadryl would be fine, just give the recommended dosage for their age/weight. It would probably be 1/2 tsp for the 2 year old, & 3/4 tsp for the 3 year old.
I realy enjoy interacting with those that are experiencing, have experienced or are just interested in addiction to drugs, more specifically, Hydrocodone. You see, I was a vicodin addict for about 12 years give or take a year. I was taking 8 5/500's at a time in about 3 hour intervals. I could tell you everything about 5/500's, 7.5/750's and 10/650's. I knew how long a bottle of 30 would last and when I would have to go back and ask for more.
I have been taking hydrocodone for about 2 1/2 years at an increasing rate, ending up with the 7.5 strength and about 18-20 per day. I do have severe arthitis pain and am a 51 year old woman. I have to cut down and recently cut down to 10 a day and have experienced physical and emotional withdrawal symptoms. I have some clonidine and don't know how much to take for withdrawal. What is the recommended dosage.
Ok, I'm totally new, but have really enjoyed reading all the comments and helpful information. I'm not sure if I'm the right place, but I have been tacking hydrocodone for years for chronic headaches... I did the route of several doctors who were not much help, then a RUDE neurologist who thought I was just searching for drugs.. I got the point where only vicodin worked, then switched to Norco (less tylenol).
Go see your doc and ask for stronger stuff like codiene or hydrocodone.
I am 7 weeks pregnant, and need some comfort from anyone with information on taking hydrocodone while pregnant. I am so scared for my baby. I have cut down to 1 and a half a day. But I keep seeing commercials of babies with birth defects and I don't want to ruin my baby's life. Please keep in mind I take this medication because I had several failed back surgeries..
I have had an annoying cough for 44 days now. It's a tickle in my throat that I can't relieve with hot honey water, essential oils, marshmallows... You name it I've tried it. I have no other symptoms, no stuffy nose, no sore throat, no fever, etc. I cough so often, maybe every 2-3 minutes. I barely sleep because I'm coughing. I am almost 29 weeks pregnant, have heartburn so bad I try to sleep sitting up and I have an umbilical hernia that hurts like hell every time I cough, I poke it back in.
I have had a persistant cough for 6 months. Was told by primary doctor that it was asthma but my cardiologist says its not asthma because I'm not wheezing. The only cough medicine that helps is hydrocodone but doesn't last till next dosage is due. Any advise on what to do? My life is definitely on hold due to this.
Or, more precisely, it's hydrocodone that is used for, among other things, cough suppression, as well as pain management. That is why he told me to use it for sleep - it suppresses any pain and actually works well. I'm not sure why it comes as a syrup - maybe people with a cough want cough "syrup", not pills? As for Doctors prescribing it for anything else, it's called off label use, and unfortunately Doctors do that all the time. So, no, it didn't raise any red flags.
Hello everyone, I am detoxing from hydrocodone after being addicted to it for about two years. I'm going through terrible withdrawal right now, but I think I might actually just make it through the aches, lack of energy, depression, etc. What I am having the most trouble with, however, is the painful cough that just won't go away. I was diagnosed with COPD not long before becoming addicted to hydros.
Some cough syrups are stronger than others. You may need a stronger cough syrup, for example one that contains Hydrocodone, called Tussionex. If the problem does reside in your nose or sinuses, with postnasal drip, you might benefit from nasal washes 2 to 4 times daily to remove mucus from the nose and sinuses. To learn more about this technique please read our nasal wash treatment information by copying and pasting this address http://www.nationaljewish.
It is possible for a cough caused by a virus to last for several weeks. Since your cough is not improving, I would suggest seeing your doctor. Generally if it were simply a virus, your cough would not be nearly this severe and it would have started to get better. It is possible that the virus has irritated the airways of your lungs and this is now causing your cough. Pertussis can happen in adults, even those who have been vaccinated.
How bad is hydrocodone for you? For the past 3 years, I have had a bad cough develop in the fall (2004, 2005, 2006). The first time, the cough lasted for about 8 weeks. I didn't go to the doctor until after the 4th week, and he proscribed Tussionex, which is a cough suppressant with hydrocodone in it. Sometime in January, the cough went away, and I stopped taking the Tussionex. The cough started again in the Fall of 2005, and I again took Tussionex for it.
I need some answers- I have been abusing Hycodan (Hydrocodone cough syrup) for several months now. I recieved the first prescripton a couple years ago and noticed that i liked it. I would get another Rx off and on for bronchitis or whatever, and during these times i would take more than i should at a time, but when i ran out i never had any w/d. Over the last 6 months or so i have had several refills and hardly went without the drug for more than a day.
What causes a false positive for hydrocodone in a urinalysis? My doctor recently took a drug test and it came out positive for hydrocodone. She said I am getting prescriptions from some one else and does not want me to come back to her practice. The only medications I take I get from her. I have fibromyalgia and am taken the follow medications prescribe by my doctor, trazadone, effexor, estrogen, endocet (perocet), oxycontin, iron pills, ondansetron, albuterol, astelin and thyroxin.
acutally suggested use of Hydrocodone for depression. The pill is not meant for depression... it counteracts how our bodies feel pain. Does nothing theraputic about the pain... just how our brain receptors manage the pain. I'd really like to talk to your Dr.. for a few mins... Holy Crow! Can't get over that he actually told you it could be used for depression. Just do a google...
I keep thinking this is gonna be rough, but I would do ANYTHING for my girls,so it's an easy choice, because I want to be chemical free.In a weird way I've been excited for this for sometime. It's nice to share my thoughts and questions here, thanx again for the support.Ya'll have a great Thanksgiving.
Pretty much like clockwork for the last 10 months. Binge. Detox. Rinse. Repeat. I've used on and off for the last 5-7 years. Mostly norco 10/325. That was my drug of choice. God I loved those little bastards. Truth be told, I'd use pretty much whatever opiate pills I could get; vikes, percs, ltabs, codeine, cough syrup... You name it, I've probably eaten it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I've had my share of bumps and bruises, breaks and fractures along the way...
So, I haven't had anything for about 36 hours. I hardly slept at all last night and I'm craving the hydrocodone. I'm also very anxious and feel panic. Please tell me it won't last long. Is there anything over the counter that I can take to help with the cravings, anxiety or panic?
