Hydrocodone and liver

Common Questions and Answers about Hydrocodone and liver

vicodin

Avatar f tn Narcotic (opioid) analgesic agents are extensively metabolized by the liver, and several of them (e.g., codeine, hydrocodone, meperidine, methadone, morphine, propoxyphene) have active metabolites that are further converted to inactive substances....." Opiates can cause liver damage, some more than others. I wish I had better information for you. I encourage you to discuss this with your physician. .... and Please let us know how you are doing and what you discover.
Avatar f tn Sorry Deb I don't know and I would think this would be a question for your hepdoc cause he knows the extent of your liver damage and stuff like that. A few now and then won't hurt but if you do have advanced damage you might want to see if they can prescribe the hydrocodone without the acetaminphen in it - I'm sure they do make it that way.
Avatar n tn For the past year I have been abusing pain meds ie... vicotin. I cant afford a biopsy and 3 months ago my liver functions were high normal. Do you think I am causing "major" damage or is the pain meds just passing thru my system ?
Avatar m tn At the clinic, they warned me that isoniazid is processed mainly by the liver and that drinking alcohol could cause liver damage in combination and should be avoided. I have no problem not drinking, but I take norco on a regular basis for chronic pain and I'm concerned that the acetaminophen in the norco's will combine with the isoniazid and cause severe liver damage. Thus, as of yet I havent begun taking the antibiotics.
Avatar n tn Unless you have an existing liver disease, this amount of hydrocodone should not effect your liver function. If you are concerned, you can ask your doctor for a blood test to know for sure.
Avatar f tn My pain management doctor recently switched me to hydrocodone 10-500 due to pharmacy crack downs and I am itching like crazy and having bad nightmares and don't sleep well and grind my teeth bad. I must be having an allergic reaction? I'm not allergic to anything but this now. I'm suffering in pain cause I can't take these side effects! I was on Oxycodone 10-325 and didn't have any problems.
Avatar f tn Hi there! I have a very bad migraine which I get often and I have hydrocodone prescribed. I went out last night and drank alcohol, though (I had quite a few drinks!). I finished my last drink around 11:30pm last night and it is currently 4:30 pm right now. Is it safe for me to take a vicoprofen (5-7.5mg hydrocodone 200-325 mg ibuprofen) after this event. It has not yet been 24 hours, but I have eaten a substantial meal today as well as 2 snacks and have been drinking water.
Avatar m tn Vicoden is (hydrocodone) and (acetaminophen "tylenol") and theres Vicoprofen (hydrocodone) and (ib-profen) the hydrocodone and acetaminophen in 5/500 Vics equal eachother out as the 10/325 hydro and aceta equals out.
Avatar f tn One thing I have not see anyone say about the differences in hydrocodone and oxycodone is that hydrocodone is schedule III while oxycodone is a scheduled II......
Avatar f tn m concerned about my liver. My doctor refuses to put me on hydrocodone with a lower dose of acetaminophen. I've been on this medication for 10 years-again, rarely even taking 1 full pill a day. It is hard, because I make myself suffer through the pain in order to keep my liver going. I don't have an addictive personality and throughout the course of this, I have not formed an addiction to the pain medication (which I find a blessing).
Avatar m tn You should definitely go to the doctor. Have your liver enzymes checked. How much do you take per day?
Avatar m tn Norco has three different strengths (5mg hydrocodone/325mg acetaminophen, 7.
Avatar f tn The lowest amount of tylenol that I know of that comes with hydrocodone would be in Norco tablets. They contain 10mg of the hydrocodone and only 325mg of tylenol. Maybe talk to your doctor about switching you to oxycodone instead? Oxycodone comes in tablet form that's just pure oxycodone, it has no tylenol or acetaminophen in it at all. It's stronger than hydrocodone, too, so the 5mg tablet (the smallest one they make) might even work as well for you as the 7.5mg vicodin.
Avatar m tn Dont anyone count on liver regeneration to get past an acute overdose of acetaminophen. The damage is permanet and irreversible. The liver is an amazing organ and can do a lot for itself.- - - buit it cannot survive a serious misuse of acetaminophen. I have been a hepatic patient at the Mayo Clinic for 13 years and I have had a lot of time to look at this one. Acetaminophen overdose is the most common form of suicide in the Uk ........ dont try and take a chance.
Avatar m tn you can get vic 10/1000 which is 10 mgs of hydrocodone and 1000 mgs of tylenol. They come in all sorts of different dosages. The first number being the hydrocodone and the second being the other additive (they come with tylenol, asprin.
Avatar n tn The pharmacist seemed very concerned that I should have the darvecett and claimed the hydrocodine was a better pain reliever. In addition, she seemed very concerned that I might mix the two and liver toxicity. I believe her but was skeptical on why I would be given the prescription for darvecett if the hydrocondine was more effective. I had a severly infected dead tooth requireing emergency treatment to releive the preasure of the infection.
Avatar f tn even though the shot was a few weeks before the urine test i seem to be under the impression that there is still a chemical that can still be detected, and is it true the hydrocodone metabolizes in the body and it will show a false positive for dilaudid thank you
Avatar f tn I am at a lost as to what to do but I can tell you all that I feel the Hydrocodone is a very nasty toxic dependent drug and hard to take and deal with life. I also know it affects my moods and depression.
Avatar f tn Medication that metabolizes in the liver can cause the liver to be irritated and enzymes to elevated. Also causing the liver to be swollen, surely not good if your liver is going through so much already. Again, speak with your doctor right away for medication that can be safely used. I also reccomend you drink plenty of water to push the medicine through your body and if you need more medicine tonight then get to a doctor today!
Avatar m tn Pain relievers should be avoided by persons with liver disease since most medications are processed by the liver to include Hydrocodone. Dizziness and vomiting are also side effects of Hydrocodone. You will find the side effects listed here and you should consult your doctor if they occur. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a601006.html Often (not always)Hydrocodone will also contain acetaminophen.
Avatar n tn I've been off hydrocodone for 2 weeks now and I feel great. It's the first time being clean in 2 years. But I've been starting to feel weird little spasms in my stomach. Sometimes food goes right through me or it feels like my stomach is burning. Is this normal?
Avatar n tn Well, I don't have a specific answer for you, but I can tell you that it is mostly metabolized by the liver and has a half-life of 3.8 hours. It's onset is 10-30 minutes to put that into perspective, with it peaking at 30-60 minutes, and a duration of 4-6 hours. Good luck with the job.
Avatar f tn For the first two months he wants me to take the hydrocodone as prescribed and 30 days of Cymbalta 30 mg and another 30 days at 60 mg after that he said he would be able to get me off of the hydrocodone completely but it was unsafe if I didn't do both at the same time. Does anybody have any clarification as to why it's dangerous to quit hydrocodone and go straight to Cymbalta without being on both of them for a .
Avatar m tn Hydrocodone (AKA.Lortab,Vicodin,Zydone ,Vicoprofen,Ect.). All are a preperation with tylenol/asprin and hydrocodone. Varies in hydrocodone dose from 2.5 (Pediatric dosage) to 15mg (15 mg made by special compound pharmacies. Make sure you read your bottle well. Please follow your doctors instructions! Its important for a few reasons.
801188 tn?1241647626 ll be okay is a little off - but you have to stop somewhere. Most on this forum recommend a liver enzyme blood work up when you have concerns and when you detox. And you are right - the acetaminophen dose is a huge concern with liver toxicity. Especially with the Brits and Canadians and folks that try and support a decent narcotic habit with 10mg codeine pills.
Avatar f tn btw, hydrocodone does not contain acetaminophen. Medications like Vicodin and Norco contain both hydrocodone and acetaminophen, but hydrocodone is itself a semi-synthetic opioid, similar to oxycodone.
