Hydrocodone and early pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Hydrocodone and early pregnancy

vicodin

I tried to stop cold turkey but my body was in terrible shape, I cut it down by over half and I am managing the pain fine with less than half of what I was originally prescribed. The internet is a scary place. I've been researching hydrocodone and pregnancy since I found out and since we've wanted this baby SO bad and got pregnant just when I was about to give up...I'm so scared I've ruined it already.
Im 29 weeks pregnant taking hydrocodone occassionally for pain. Ive weaned myself off is my baby still suseptable to withdrawl?
So as long as you have good doctors who support you and know what is going on and you have a healthy pregnancy, the baby should be fine!
Can't really say at this point but I think your baby will be fine, but again I am not a docotr, the most important thing is that you tell your doc that you had been taking them and that you have since stopped, God Bless and congrats P.S.
I am in my third pregnancy and have been off and on hydrocodone throughout the last 8 months for severe lower back pain. (I was a ballet dancer for years and had injured my back prior to the pregnancy) I am now 34 weeks. I have been assured by my obgyn and my pain management doctor that this is ok to take during pregnancy. I would totally trust the doctors because they know what they are doing.
Please stick around and someone will help you. It is a quiet day and it is early so be patient. Best of luck to you and your little one.
Hey everyone!! Well im 7 weeks pregnant and take hydrocodone [i have a scrip] I take like 6 to 8 a day. I have my OB app in like 2 days and very worried about whats going to happen. I have done alot of reserch on this an eveything is contradiciting itself. I went to my pain man. Dr an she upset me sooo much she told me that the babys arm, leg, heart, and brain will have birth defecs... then wrote me a script for the hydrocodone.
I had surgery 3 months ago and my doctor told me that I could take Hydrocodone for 2 weeks only and would be fine. Well, I'm not...I'm addicted again. I tried to stop taking them and passed out and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. No one in my family knew (til today) that I've been taking Hydrocodone so the hospital thought I was suffering from a very bad stomach virus(dehydration, very lose bowels, vomiting, sweating, passing out..etc...
I do have severe arthitis pain and am a 51 year old woman. I have to cut down and recently cut down to 10 a day and have experienced physical and emotional withdrawal symptoms. I have some clonidine and don't know how much to take for withdrawal. What is the recommended dosage. My goal is to eventually cut down to 4 a day, but have been very uncomfortable at 10. I also take effexor and trazadone for depression, but I am so depressed right now.
I took viocin when I had a tooth pulled early in my second trimester and my baby was absolutely fine and the doctor that pulled my tooth knew I was pregnant and I even called to double check to make sure it was okay and she said it was fine. Hope your daughter gets some relief.
They may advise you hold off on getting off the med until you are farther along to make sure you don't go into early labor of have a miscarriage, because coming off narcs is hard on your body and causes a lot of stress. You really need to discuss this with your doctor on the best way to do this to have the best outcome for you and your baby. Best wishes and congragulations.
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could answer this to me, Ive been addicited to hydrocodone (Perks mostly and oxys) for a couple years now, it never was so bad until after I had my first son, and was taking some for pain, During my sons pregnancy I was only taking about 5mgs a day everyday for the first like 6 months and then stopped, And he was born completly healthy, But since hes been born ive been doing a prescription of 40 perks in a couple days, Im currently pregnant with my second baby
that I had a problem, but once I found out I was pregnant I told him not to prescribe me more than 60 oxycontins a month. I did get off of that very early in my pregnancy, and with the help of another Dr that did know I was addicted, got off Vicodin too. When I was pregnant, my Dr. didn't want me to stop cold turkey, he said it could put too much stress on the baby. I feel like such a f-up for a mom for all of that, and I'm trying so hard to make it up to her.
What they do can very much depend on the mother, if she got regular and early prenatal care, was cooperative and followed all instructions; presented as a caring and cared for mother to be, then there may not be any reason for them to test her. However if she or those around her send out warning signals with their presentation, dress or behavior, her health provider can very well test your baby's meconium (poop) without her consent.
I also beg you to go to your doctor and fess up. You choose to continue this pregnancy and it is your responsibility to care for her. Your innocent and beautiful little girl deserves this. She was not giving a choice. It was just recently I had to go to my doctor of 10 yrs and fess up to being an addict. She actually praised me for being brave enough to tell her. Some doctors have an endless stream of compassion. I know some don't but they are probably few. They choose to save peoples lives.
In general, these drugs may lead to a slightly increased risk of birth defects when taken early in pregnancy. However, since your obstetrician states that the baby looks good, the risk of a birth defect at this point in time is probably low. If you need to continue taking the hydrocodone until the baby is born, the greatest risk is that the baby may have "neonatal abstinence syndrome", or signs of withdrawal after birth.
It puts the mother's body into shock no matter what your usage is and can cause pre term labor and/or miscarriage. If you are early ini your pregnancy, be honest with your dr and allow him/her to wean you VERY slowly. The drugs that normally would be prescribed to anyone coming off of opiates (valium, xanax, klonopin etc.) are EXTREMELY UNSAFE at any time during your pregnancy. They are all a category X and can and most likely will cause defects or brain activity reduction.
my son was 6 weeks early and had to be weened from meth to morphine(short acting) 14 days he spent in the nicu 2 in the nursery and today is is as wonderful and perfect but they do experiance withdrawls i saw it with my own eyes and it was rough.
This is absolutly one time you dont want to take it into your own hands, you will be fine but it can cause early labor and other things to the baby like the above post says! CONGRATS ON THE BABY!!!! Im 2 months prego myself and im on cloud 9!!! but I have taken vics too so i know what your going through there too. good luck and keep us posted!!
I just took my last pill today and plan on abstaining for the duration of my pregnancy. I consider myself somewhat of a controlled addict in that I do not abuse the pills because I've never taken more than two in one day but I do use the pills at times- for emotional reasons.
Well I'll be 8 weeks pregnant in a few days, and I have an addiction to hydrocodone and norcos. I'm really worried about my baby and want to quit, I'm scared my baby will test positive at birth?
I have severe migraines which got a lot worse after I became pregnant. I saw a neurologist early on in the pregnacy and he said that Vicodin/Norco was my best option and that "plenty of healthy babies are born to mothers on Vicodin". I got up to 6-8 pills a day during my second trimester, but around 30 weeks I started to cut down and I asked my OB/GYN about the risks of remaining on the medication through the third trimester.
Ok I'm 26 Weeks pregnant and taking 4-5 7.5 mg hydrocodone a day. My ob knows that I take it she's the one that prescribes it to me and monitors my dose. I also have a two year old daughter and I stay at home with her. My husband works 12 hours a day and he takes our only car to work with him so I'm stuck at home EVERYDAY. I also have no friends and very few family. I started taking hydrocodone when my daughter was 3 months old. So I've been taking it for two years.
Well thanks Sammy932 now I will get an ultrasound done this Tuesday n see if it's an early pregnancy n my hormones are going up lil by lil n I'm happy to hear that
hi i took percocet and tylenol 3 all through my pregnancy for back, migraine and a broken tailbone. I can't guarantee your baby won't be addicted, but it is highly unlikely at 3-4/day. I just gave birth three weeks ago and only took tylenol 2 the last few days before I went into labour 1 week early (nothing to do with any drugs, baby just came at 39 weeks), anyway my son was born totally fine, agpar scores of 9 (excellent) with ZERO withdrawal symptoms.
I have been to a high risk specialist for the dependence and have been reassured at this early in the pregnancy and with the dosages I was taking that there is no greater risk to this baby for birth defects. Relief. Post taper, I am on a regimine next week that includes Stadol NS x 3 day for 5 days, along with phenergen. Do you think that any withdrawals I could have will be handled by this regimine for withdrawals?
i am now on 1mg per day and there is limited studies. please help.
I am due in 9 days, i have been taking 50 mg tramadol throughout my entire pregnancy and my doctor told me that the baby would have withdrawls for a few days and maybe small seizures. It makes me feel like a bad mother but there is no way i could of made it 9+ months without the meds. Has anyone else heard any information about tramadol 50mg?
