Avatar f tn I am wondering that once this fluid wears off in 6-12 months, does the knee go back to how it use to be, or is the the body no longer capable of making it's own synvovial fluid?
Avatar f tn Hyaluronan is a natural chemical found in joint tissues and in the fluid that fills the joints (synovial fluid). The body’s own hyaluronan acts like a lubricant and shock absorber in synovial fluid of a healthy joint. Osteoarthritis negatively affects the quality of synovial fluid and decreases its ability to protect and lubricate your joint. SUPARTZ Joint Fluid Therapy supplements the poor quality HA in your painful knee with additional highly purified HA. Refer: http://www.supartz.
Avatar n tn and my doctor explained that its a sac which has fluid in it. Its located on your knee or I suppose under your knee cap its there to protect your bones when you bend and move. Not sure if there is more than 1 kind of bursa but this is the one I am familiar with.
Avatar m tn The vet has put him on Cosequin, which is a neutraceutical to increase synovial fluid in the joint. This helps to lubricate and reduce pain of the cartilage rubbing itself. I would say that injecting the joint would be a better option to start off with (still doing the cosequin as maintenance) than jumping to surgery. I have had my horses hocks injected before and it really helps with movement and pain reduction due to wear and tear.
Avatar m tn A Baker’s cyst or a popliteal cyst is a swelling caused by collection of synovial fluid which has escaped from the knee joint, protruding in the area which is back of the knee. Check if you have a baker's cyst? The treatment for Baker’s cyst includes rest, keeping your leg propped up for several days, massage treatments by a physiotherapist, compression wraps/elastic bandage, NSAIDs and cortisone injections. It may even recede on its own. If not consider surgical treatment. Take care!
559803 tn?1215906890 Hyaluronan is one of the major molecular components of joint fluid, and it gives the joint fluid, also called synovial fluid, its viscous, slippery quality. The high viscosity of synovial fluid allows for the cartilage surfaces of joints to glide upon each other in a smooth fashion. By injecting Synvisc in a knee, some people consider this a so-called joint lubrication.
Avatar m tn 1. Several physicians have propose hyaluronic acid or cortisone injections. Which is recommended? 2. One physician offered to perform a chondral transplant, consisting in taking fresh chartilage from my knee and implanting it in the toe, with arthroscopic surgery. Would you recommend it? What is the likelihood of success and the possible complications?
Avatar m tn , I was looking into the option of a combined hyaluronic acid/PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injection - about which I'd heard great things - until I realised I didn't want to take the risk after the two half-botched operations I'd had done years ago. So I decided to simply take hyaluronic acid orally on the off-chance, and have had no pain since. Could be a coincidence but it could also be worth a try. Readily available in capsule form from multiple sources.
Avatar m tn Because you are asking about hyaluronic acid, and because of the recent addition of GAG's to pharmacy shelves, I think it's important to address a few points about the uses of these compounds therapeutically. On the up side, hyaluronic acid is the same from whatever source it is isolated, and it is so common in the body that it can be used as a hypoallergenic surgical material for reconstructing and building up tissues that are lost.
Avatar m tn Cavitation occurs in synovial joints when a small vacuum forms in the synovial fluid and a rapid release produces a sharp popping or cracking sound. If it persists or other symptoms are present, it is best that you have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Synvisc clearly indicates that synovial fluid is to be removed before each injection, yet my doctor has never done this. He has passed my questions off as something that is not important and said that the Synvisc is intended to mix with the existing fluid -- as a supplement, and that it is an unnecesary procedure. My questions are: Are there any indications that failure to remove the existing fluid is problematic for most patients, or is he just being lazy? Thanks for your help and advice.
1083310 tn?1260107282 Synvisc is a gel-like mixture that is made up of hylan A fluid, hylan B gel, and salt water. Hylan A and hylan B are made from a substance called hyaluronan (pronounced hye-a-loo-ROE-nan), also known as sodium hyaluronate that comes from chicken combs. This is a natural substance found in the body and is present in very high amounts in joints. The body's own hyaluronan acts like a lubricant and a shock absorber in the joint and is needed for the joint to work properly.
Avatar f tn Pain in the back of the knee can be caused by arthritis or Bakers cysts (cystic accumulation of synovial fluid, also causes a swelling). So as you can see, arthritis can cause an overall knee pain. Ligament injury causes pain to worsen on walking, bending and stretching the knee. Meniscii too if torn or injured, result in joint instability—that is you are not confident the knee joint will take your weight. Often the person feels a popping sensation on moving the joint.
Avatar m tn Hello! I'm 14 and I've been having knee pain for 2 years. One doctor told me it's growing pains but I don't really believe it, becuase I don't grow much anymore. The second doctor told me it's because I don't have enough synovial fluid in my knee joints and he offered me injections. I don't know what to do. What if there's something else that causes this pain? I've also got knock knees. Can this be the problem? Please help me!
Avatar m tn For proper diagnosis, it is best that you have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Diagnostic tests that may be done include synovial fluid analysis, joint x-rays and uric acid determination in the blood or urine. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Your body may make too much uric acid, or have a hard time getting rid of uric acid. If too much uric acid builds up in the fluid around the joints (synovial fluid), uric acid crystals form. These crystals cause the joint to swell up and become inflamed. Not everyone with high uric acid levels in the blood has gout. The exact cause is unknown. Gout may run in families. It is more common in males, postmenopausal women, and people who drink alcohol.
Avatar m tn Collection of synovial fluid in the joint causes the swelling. However the risk of problems with the cartilage or meniscus should be ruled out. Consult an orthopaedic surgeon for an evaluation. Rest, immobilization, anti-inflammatory drugs, injections of steroid into the joint will help. Take care and good luck.
Avatar n tn She also had cervical discharge, and physical examination by her doctor revealed purulent? synovial? fluid? ( I dont know what this is?) from knee. What is wrong with her? please help she is very depressed. She also denied to take HIV test which was offered by the doctor. Thank you.
Avatar m tn I can't bend without pain in my left knee and MRI stated that I had loculated fluid collection posterior and superior in the knee measuring approximately 4.2cm in medial-to-lateral dimension and 2.0cm in craniocauded dimension.. All non aggressive with multiple thin septations but no extension into the bone or muscles possibly representing a large soft tissue GANGLION or LOCULATED EFFUSION.
Avatar m tn Could it cause vision problems, I have seen that the main ingredient of restylane is Hyaluronic acid, I have found a topical cream that is 75% hyaluronic acid, I know this wont work as well but do you think this is an option or not even worth spending hte money on the cream. Any comments or experiences would be great.
Avatar n tn Those with broad pelvis, flat foot and knock knee many a times twist their knee without realizing. Fluid either blood or synovial secretion accumulates and builds up during the day. If X-rays were normal, get a MRI done. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!

Avatar n tn A bursa is a small fluid filled sac around most mobile joints. This is lined by synovial membrane which secretes a slimy substance to lubricate these joints so that there is no friction during movement. The other possibility is that it is a cyst, a lipoma, or a soft tissue tumor. It is difficult to comment beyond this without examination. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Avatar m tn No better or worse. Exercise, diet, Cordisone and Hyaluronic injections acid, rubs, creams, fat stem cell shots...Knee ex-rays show I do have medial bone on bone in knees and osteoarthritis (OA). I felt a bit like I had a brain fog so I got checked out for that. One test after another. MRIs and auto immune test. inconclusive but what lead to further test was something in my blood told doctors I could have an auto immune but not which one. Doctors also said my B12 and D6 were way low.

Avatar f tn You might be talking about hyaluronic acid. That's what comes up in a google search. It is used to aid reduction of inflammation and as a joint lubricant. I used it for horses 20 years ago, and it was the successful use in sport horses that prompted its use in people. I think whether or not it's helpful depends on too many factors for anyone to advise you over the internet. Ask his doctor if hyaluronic acid will help.
