Avatar m tn Because you are asking about hyaluronic acid, and because of the recent addition of GAG's to pharmacy shelves, I think it's important to address a few points about the uses of these compounds therapeutically. On the up side, hyaluronic acid is the same from whatever source it is isolated, and it is so common in the body that it can be used as a hypoallergenic surgical material for reconstructing and building up tissues that are lost.
Avatar m tn Could it cause vision problems, I have seen that the main ingredient of restylane is Hyaluronic acid, I have found a topical cream that is 75% hyaluronic acid, I know this wont work as well but do you think this is an option or not even worth spending hte money on the cream. Any comments or experiences would be great.
1028452 tn?1537448484 I'm 60 with gout also. They only sure way to prevent gout is to get your uric acid level below 6.0 and keep it below 6 for the rest of your days. Its that simple. 10.1 is high. My gout started flairing again at 7.2. I had to go on a low dose of allopurinal 100 mg to get mine to 5.2. Allopurinal will dissolve the crystals over many months but will cause flairs while doing so. When your level is below 6.0 tophi cannot form. So see your doctor.
1016618 tn?1420553262 Hi Tom, I just checked my historical uric acid lab results. My pre-treatment uric acid was 7.0. After a few weeks on treatment, it spiked to 9.7 then slowly declined until treatment was over where it ended at 7.9. My gout started materializing at about treatment week 20 (out of 24). It began with discomfort in the joint below my big toe and then escalated from there.
Avatar f tn Hello, I went to the doctor to have a filler injected into the eyes dark circles area, the syringe with the gel (hyaluronic acid) was not new, I know because he took it out of a box but the blister was not sealed, I also saw that the gel in the syringe was not completely full, I saw that he took a needle with a cover from the blister, so I think the needle was new, and he placed it on the tip of the syringe with gel, I am worried that the gel (hyaluronic acid) has been contaminated with the bloo
2062453 tn?1350332942 Did you have elevated uric acid in your blood while undergoing HCV treatment? If you did have elevated uric acid, did it result in gout either during or shortly after treatment? I recently completed 24 weeks of HCV triple therapy (Incivek). My uric acid was a couple of points high throughout treatment. About a week before I completed treatment, I started experiencing discomfort in the joints at the base of my big toes.
Avatar m tn Hi, I am a 26 yr old male who recently had a mild gout attack because the uric acid levels in my blood were high and so as my cholesterol. The gout is gone now after watching my diet, keeping away from high purines and taking medicine. I just don't want it to come back, so i began researching the internet on what to do. I am quite confused about what foods to eat and avoid for Gout, as what i am reading over the internet, some things seem to be contradictory with each other.
Avatar n tn My dad is 59 years old, 6' tall, and about 250 pounds (in process of losing weight). He had a gout attack in September on his knee, and it was very painful for him. He went to his doctor and was diagnosed with gout. Since then, he only had one gout-like attack (not painful at all) on the toe next to his big one, and only lasted a couple of hours. He isn't complaining about pain or anything, thankfully.. but I am still worried about gout in general.
Male I have congestive heart failure and take diuretics and my uric acid level has been 10.0 or over for the past two years, causing no problems until now, I am getting gout. I have been on Allopurinol and had two rounds of steroids and within three days of being off the steroids my gout returns. I don't drink, or eat a much meat and have increased my vitamin C to 1500 mg a day, is there anything else I can do?
Avatar n tn The most informative clinical signs are the presence of classic podagra (sudden, unexplained swelling and pain of the big toe joint on just one foot). High uric acid levels, ( does not necessarily mean a person will develop gout.) Pseudogout the Chondrocalcinosis is a very similar disease, caused by deposition of calcium pyrophosphate rather than uric acid. The first line of treatment should be pain relief.
Avatar m tn Sound suspicious of Gout. Have your serum Uric Acid level checked. Your GP/Family Physician/Primary Care Physician should be able to manage this. Gout is common in males and can be triggered by certain foods in the diet, such as meat, seafood, cheeses, alcohol, sweetened drinks, etc. There are also other causes too.
Avatar m tn Other abnormalities were very high trigs, high cholestorol, slightly elevated calcium and phosphorus..What can I interpret from the high uric acid count? Does this mean I may have gout or cancer? I haven't had a gout attack yet. Symptoms sometimes are sudden cold sweat breakouts and fatigue. I also have a recent history of elevated liver enzymes AST and ALT of 50's. Still waiting on followup with the primary care. Any feedback would be appreciated!
4210566 tn?1353008883 Hello, Gout causes painful arthritis commonly at the base of the toes. Ankles and knees are the next most commonly involved joints in gout. Your uric acid levels are definitely high. You will need medications to lower your blood uric acid levels. You will also need long-term management of the disease in order to prevent future gouty arthritis .Increase the intake of fluids.
Avatar m tn One natural remedy for gout is celery seed extract, but there are also other things. What you need is to avoid the excess acid, take things that soak up the excess acid, and eat a diet that avoids inflammatory foods such as dairy and wheat. I'd consult a holistic nutritionist, or read up on this, as it's complicated.
Avatar m tn Can somebody from the old school on this hep.
Avatar n tn i have been diagnosed by my G.P. to have gout, but my Orthopeadic Sergeon seem to disagree. Syntoms: Acute pain in both ankles and mid-foot area. The pain lays me off from walking for days. The pain is likened to having needles drawn in and out of the effected area. My sergeon believes i am well out of the criteria to have gout as i am 33 male, active and lead a healthy lifestye...... his ideas reach towards mid-foot arthritis?
Avatar f tn This does reduce the uric acid level in your system which causes the gout pain. I have proven this by having blood tests one year apart, and always had a high uric acid level but after taking the cherry concentrate the level was NORMAL. The doctor was amazed. You will know if you have gout, believe me!
Avatar n tn Sorry I keep asking you questions, but I can't help continuing to be concerned about this. He isn't complaining about pain or anything, thankfully.. but I am still worried about gout in general. I read that high uric acid alone isn't the cause of gout, as many people who have high levels of uric acid don't get gout, so there must be an underlying condition as well as the high levels of uric acid that caused the gout. I am worried that there is something wrong with his kidneys.
206807 tn?1331936184 Gout is caused by excess uric acid which is a renal function. Both Hep C and interferon have been known to cause kidney problems.Your friend needs an appointment at a renal unit.
Avatar n tn The medical history ,symptoms ,joint examination and tests like blood tests and X-rays are important for accurate diagnosis. Many healthy people without gout have high uric acid levels in their blood, while others who experience an attack of gout have a normal level. Other differentials for monoarticular arthritis are pseudogout, bursitis, septic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis etc.Consult your doctor and discuss above possibilities. Hope it helps. Take care and regards!
Avatar n tn But this time I am going to ask the GP to try for Gout immediately (VIOXX and/or Allopurinol for Uric Acid/Gout). I notice it seems to reoccur every 5 years. Advice appreciated?
Avatar m tn Can I still have Gout despite normal Uric Acid levels? I would really appreciate and be very thankful to anyone who can help me in this matter.
1268551 tn?1270384466 Gout is a kind of arthritis caused by a buildup of uric acid crystals in the joints. Uric acid is a breakdown product of purines that are part of many foods we eat. An abnormality in handling uric acid and crystallization of these compounds in joints can cause attacks of painful arthritis, kidney stones, and blockage of the kidney filtering tubules with uric acid crystals, leading to kidney failure. .
