1817813 tn?1317017629 You know we have considered this. She was in a nursing home/rehab facility @ a year ago. She got a cold sore on her lip @ 5 years ago and of course the doc told her it was herpes simplex 1 or 2, can't remember which, but could it be that it travels? Sounds kinda weird I know, but we are at our wits end. There's no reason she should have to live like this and the docs aren't helping.
Avatar f tn My son is a heroin addict and has finally agreed to go to a rehab. He checked himself into WVU Hospital today only to be turned away because they have no beds and he has no money or insurance. Every rehab I have checked into wants money or insurance or they have no beds. We live in West Virginia but he is willing to go anywhere. He is desperate and really wants to change. Can anyone help with a rehab that does not charge anything and has beds available?
Avatar m tn He was able to come off the vent in three days of being in rehab. He has a feeding tube and trach. Since coming home he is doing better. Hospitals will tell you to give up and place your loved one out of site and mind. Let what ever comes next for your dad be your decision. My husband is making progress everyday. The lord has the last say.
Avatar f tn gov and search nursing home comparisons. The issue I have is that none of the nursing homes actually mention rehab. My dad has a great attitude and is working hard at his therapy sessions. Can anyone offer advice on how to effectively research and screen facilitities to ensure that my dad continues therapy with the goal of going home? Thanks!
Avatar m tn It is now November and he is still in a nursing home in Long Term Care unit and not receiving ANY rehab. The reason the home gives is that he has "plateaued". People I have spoken to have said that he should still be receiving therapy. I realize that he is now on medicaid, (he lost his job, home, everything due to this stroke) and is being treated like a second class citizen!! He is getting very depressed. Thank you!
Avatar f tn If you live by yourself, you may also want to ask your surgeon about possibly sending you to a nursing home/rehab center for a short time following your next surgery to help you for a while. You're ability to do much of anythin gis going to compromised with the use of only one side and it may take a while for you to get used to it all. The nursing home/rehab center can help you with physical therapy, teaching you how to transfer from the wheelchair to the bed, tub, toilet, etc.
Avatar f tn My mother is residing in a nursing home in a wheelchair. She has little rehab in there, because she's too tired to keep at it. She does try, but the rehab doesn't last too long because of her tiredness. She is immobilized on her left side, and can't balance herself to go on a commode.
Avatar f tn more as time goes on? or will he stay like that? we are bringing him home for hospice and home health to care for him.
Avatar m tn her time at the rehab is covered under the hippa law which means that the doctors/staff agh the rehab CAN NOT i repeat CAN NOT tell anyone that is not on her treatment team any info about her unless she signs releases they can be in a lot of trouble if they reported her with out her breaking any law did she give consent to speak to the board of nursing about her condition?
Avatar f tn Hello and welcome to the forum. Heart failure and VTACH are serious conditions but with excellent medications, very close physician care and follow up, many patients can do quite well. Rehab to regain functional capacity is very important. If this can be safely done as an outpatient, this can work but sometimes an inpatient stay in needed. I would address these concerns directly with your mom's doctor/team and see if you can come up with a mutuall agreeable plan. Best, Dr.
Avatar n tn hi, i am a nurse, and i tend to work alot with patients like your dad, risperadil is an antipsychotic drug, and it does have its place when patients become agressive and pose a risk to themselves and others, however its not intended to be used long term in patients with your dads condition, we tend to use it, only in extreme circumstances and again only for a very very limited period of time, ie maybe one to two days.
Avatar m tn My dad is doing so well right now and he needs and wants more of it. My family and I are not sure what to do. Any help would be great.
966133 tn?1282845951 Me and my 2 sisters came to be with her. She was transferred to a rehabilitation/nursing home about 3 weeks ago. She is NOT getting any better. In fact, now she is refusing to eat or even go to physical therapy. She will not call for the nurses because she does not want to inconvenience them! She has called me or my sister from the nursing home to come do things for her that the nurses are there to do. Grandma had senile dementia.
Avatar m tn Its an online forum where addicts come together and discuss things. Many here are detoxing and its probably what confused you. Here are some detox facilities near the location you mentioned. Good luck to you.
Avatar m tn hi can anyone tell me where (hopefully in Boston,ma) got help my brother still needs medical as well as rehab for his ischemic stroke his eyes cannot open less he holds them open he keeps falling he needs care around the clock so he will not fall as he tries to get up very worried as each time he falls it sets him back looking for a good place he can also get rehab and speech therapy.he is not well enough to come home.....
Avatar m tn He is frail, has congestive heart failure, and lives in a nursing home. The cardiologist there said that he needed to replace his 8 year old pacemaker. Obviously, the operation would require transportation to a hospital. Does this make sense? Is the risk of an adverse outcome outweight the risk of not having the operation performed? Thanks for your thoughts on this.
1821865 tn?1317522031 They removed her right skull a few days later she had a second stroke where she lost her ability of speaking. Since she has not said a word. Now she is at a nursing home rehab where she makes 5 steps behind then forward now the place told us they are going to drop her because she is not improving. I know some of you have been in that riad what should i do take her home or live her in long term. They kept madicating her with Ativan i tried to talk to the nursing director not much of nother.
Avatar n tn My mother recovered from a stroke that was on her right side, but after a two years of theropy . She started having some sore throat issues that made her sound: when talking, similar to when her stroke happened. We took her to a hospital for test and it came back with high cholesterol, but every thing else negative . They admitted her her and change her meds. she ate supper there that night and breakfast the next morning. They even walked her that morning.
Avatar n tn He was immediatly transfered to a nursing home/rehab center once it was done. He had a fast recovery there, but he ate really well there and they cut down the amount they used in the tube until finally he had it removed completely. I don't know if it was the hosptial food was so nasty that he wouldn't eat but he liked the food at the home. The more nutrition he got the stronger he got so I do believe that it helps with strength and health.
Avatar m tn All of the nursing homes are crummy and I don't agree with a nursing home stay as a cure or treatment for depression. Nursing homes are necessary and fulful a definite need, but psychiatric treatment is not one of those needs. In the best nursing homes there is a shortage of staff. They treat "depression" with a chemical straightjacket. Furthermore, the diet in most homes is lacking and good nutrition is part and parcel of treatment for depression.
766573 tn?1365166466 i've seen this dog at huntington beach, california. he's really talented. and he's sweet, too. best wishes.
