Humira and remicade

Common Questions and Answers about Humira and remicade

humira

Avatar m tn s and am now 24. I am currently going through a horrible flare and am on Humira now. I took Remicade to calm down my last flare and it worked wonders when nothing else would. It put me into remission and allowed my body to heal itself. It does lower your immune system, so you can get sick more easily. If you wash your hands and take care of yourself, this shouldnt even be an issue. I would recomend it. It made me feel normal again.
Avatar f tn I'm 33 and have psoriatic arthritis and was recently started on Humira. Within a day of starting I had pain in my fingers, toes, shines and forearms (none of which I had before). Has anyone else experienced new joint pain after starting Humira?
Avatar f tn I'm on Remicade infusions and I was told that I was not supposed to use biologics when sick. You might want to talk to your gasto.
621770 tn?1243220914 Just wanted to let you know that I was on pegasys and riba for 24 weeks and remicade became svr with absolutely no side effects at all....everyone is different and react differently to all meds. I have been on remicade for almost 10 years with no side effects and met MANY MANY people who never experienced any side effects and better health. Just to let you know that this wasn't a study.
1115182 tn?1258760246 I have had Crohn's for 40 yrs; 30 yrs on steroids, 10 on methotrexate. Originally oral, 25 mg a week, but last 4 yrs weekly injections of 25 mg. I had a hemi-colectomy in March 09, with 15 cm of my small and large intestines removed. Unfortunately, I then had a big flare in late September requiring 2 weeks again in hospital. I was put on remicade: gastro said I would have only 3 infusions: 0, 2 weeks, 6 weeks, but still had faecal incontinence and failure to put on weight.
Avatar m tn On doctor suspects that because I have not taken Humira injection for about a month that it might have played a role in this mystery, Has anyone had anything similar to this or have insight on success and failures from Humira and Remicade, I really appreciate any and all responses and insight
Avatar f tn The competition does sell versions of it (Remicade and Humira) but those are just as costly. Humira actually would cost me more. I was hoping there was a different class of medications outside those 3 that can do the same job for much less.. Thank you for replying.
Avatar f tn I am sorry that you have chrons. No fun right? Hopefully you will hear from those who have tried Humira. I was on Remicade and it did wonders. I am no longer on it because I have 2 fistula's and had to have bowel resection. But I went from barely could go to feeling really good on Remicade. Good luck, hope it works wonders.
Avatar m tn Johnson and Schering have described the drug as the new standard of so-called tumor necrosis factor blockers, a group of drugs that includes Enbrel from Wyeth and Amgen, and Humira from Abbott Laboratories. Unlike Simponi, those drugs are generally injected once every week or two weeks. The drug class works by engaging and neutralizing a protein that, when overproduced, causes inflammation and damage to bones, cartilage and other tissue.
686769 tn?1236272131 Humira is my choice if I can talk my GI into it, I can’t see backing up all the way to Remicade when Humira may do the trick. I had Iron infusions 2 years ago and ended up with clots in my arm so I'm not looking forward to Remicade infusions.
1974283 tn?1425609124 Hey guys! I was wondering if there's anyone out there that can give me more information on cimzia. Every medication I have tried either makes me worse, or I have reactions to. I created a reaction to Remicade and Humira just doesn't seem to work anymore. I am bleeding more than I have in years and I am only 18. My brother met a girl who takes Cimzia and she is having amazing results. I have, well, little hope that the Humira will turn around and stop working.
Avatar n tn I last had my last Remicade four weeks ago and then tried my first loading dose of Cimzia. I am very ill from the Cimzia. Does anyone know if I could move back to Remicade if only 8-10 weeks have passed. My side effects on Cimzia are comparable to the.side effects on Humira that caused me to stop using the drug. Remicade is only marginally effective now for my Crohns but the side effects are minimal. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn 29, 2009 - Rheumatoid arthritis patients who take the biologic drugs Remicade, Humira, and Enbrel do not appear to have an increased risk for developing cancer in the first few years of use, researchers in Sweden report. The study is one of the largest and longest population-based investigations ever into the cancer-causing potential of the drugs, known as tumor necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors.
Avatar f tn Also, I forgot to ask this at her last rheumy appt, but how is Remicade any better than Enbrel or Humira? (SHe hasn't been on them, but I just wondered why he chose Remicade.) Any info you can provide would be most appreciated! My daughter is at the end of her rope.
Avatar n tn Just as you had built antibodies against the mtx injection you can also build antibodies against the Remicade and when you stop taking it and try to take it again you might have a reaction as you did with the mtx injection. I am so sorry that your chrons is so bad. Also, there are many new products out there for chrons and hopefully one will work.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Crohn's 9 years ago. I have been taking Asacol (5-ASA) and Imuran (Azathioprine). Last february I was hospitalized for the first time and was put on prednisone. I am still on prednisone and my body won't let me get off of it. My doctor wants me to start Humira, but I am scared. I don't like reading about the side effects and things that can happen when on that drug. Does anyone have any experience with this drug (Humira)? I would really appreciate it.
1120928 tn?1263190816 My Doctor has not put me on anything yet, she want's me to choose between Humira and Remicade, but the thought of taking either scares me to death because my immune system is already weak.
Avatar n tn she had her first surgery last jan. She was on remicade acouple years ago and it was working well for awhile and then it stopped working. now in the last 2 years she is loosing her hearing. she has lost 50% of her hearing so far. They dont know if it is from the crohns or all the meds she was on. Has anyone experienced hearing loss she is now being fitted for hearing aids.
Avatar f tn My wife is now uninsurable, and we cannot afford the state insurance (HIPPA) . I'm self employed, and they say we overqualify for the Remicade offered for uninsurable familys. My wife (46 yrs.old) has had this for the past 6 years and has had both knees replaced and it's now working on her ankles and wrists. Without the Remicade infusions I'm afraid that this will get worse and do serious damage to her other joints. Any suggestions from anyone would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn I have had two shots of Humira, I constantly have sinus issues, pain pressure, teeth hurt and hedaches. I got them on enbrel and after 9 years it quit working, so tired remicade but after 4 infusions I had such a bad insus probelm I quit it also raised my blood pressrue a lot. I don't seem to be able to handle hard core antibidoics so I can take zpack, and it helps, but I always seem to be back on it alteast every two months.
422104 tn?1209763904 Ok, heres one for anybody out there. Has anyone tried the Enbrel, had no luck with it and gone on to either the Remicade or Humira and gotten results? It's a beautiful day here in the NE and the pup is telling me it's time to get out there! Make it a good day everyone and I will check in later today. Sue & Casey, ha ha!
1087766 tn?1256642989 Well, I personally would never want to do the surgery unless it was an absolute last resort. (I too have Crohn's and have been diagnosed for two and a half years. I am also on Humira and it took a few months for it to work, but it works REALLY well for me now.) Having any surgery on your bowels is a very very difficult surgery. It will take a lot of time for your abdominal muscles to heal and for your intestines to heal.
Avatar f tn As far as I understand current IBD protocols, steroids are only used short term to bring about remission, but we need an immuno-suppressor drug (Remicade, Humira, Cimzia) for maintenance of remission. I do know what I am talking about and steer clear of well-meaning people who advocate stopping prescribed meds and using alternative medication. Aloe vera will not stop the immune system from over-reacting - if it did, all gastros would be prescribing it.
1120928 tn?1263190816 has given me the choice of taking Humira or Remicade and explained the risks of TNF blockers. I have a blood disorder that weekend my immune system at a young age and I am not sure of taking something that would weaken it more. I was wondering if anyone could tell me more of how they felt after taking either drug, and if they have experienced any severe infections or not.
Avatar f tn I have been on enbrel and humira so far. I'm very needle phobic so we havent gone through IV yet....lol...I'm even worse about IV's...when the numbness started, the doctors pulled me off a lot of my meds, mostly the ones for psoriatic arthritis.
Avatar n tn t remember where I saw this because I was popping all over the place but try googling Crohns and Diabetes and see what comes up. I think it's because they're both autoimmune diseases? It's interesting because I was recently diagnosed with Crohns and nobody else in my family has it but I do have a lot of diabetes in my family. I think they still don't know what exactly causes it but you can go to ccfa.
