Humira and methotrexate side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Humira and methotrexate side effects

humira

Avatar n tn I am not sure if this helps - perhaps you could Google methotrexate for more detailed information on mtx side effects, and/or read the leaflet that you should get when picking up your injections. Of course, the manufacturer must list all known side effects, even if it had occurred in 1/10,000 patients, so don't be frightened by an extensive list. Each person reacts differently to drugs, i.e.
Avatar m tn Humira is a good medication to induce remission and symptom resolution, tough there are a few side effects associated. However all side effects may not necessarily develop in everybody. I would suggest discussing the pros and cons in detail with your treating rheumatologist. Let’s hope for a favourable recovery. Take care!

Avatar n tn I have RA and use Humira/methotrexate. How long do I have to be off Humira to get a yellow fever (and/or tyhphoid) vaccine? How long to I have to stay off Humira after the vaccine?
Avatar m tn I've been diagnosed with RA since 2006. On Methotrexate 20mg, Humira, and folic acid. In last 24 months I've had 3 bouts of pancreatitis (twice after gall bladder removal) with no cause determined gastro doc, and chronic burning sensation in legs, buttocks and lower back. (Similar to feeling of frostbite) Sensation increases as day progresses and greater sensitivity on sitting or clothes binding in areas.
158939 tn?1274915197 I have also heard that you may feel better if you inject it right before bed so you can sleep through most of the side effects. Please let us know how you do and if you develop any other side effects.
Avatar f tn m now taking Plaquenil, Methotrexate and Humira Injections. My Rheumatologist did not discuss this with me. He said that the progression needs to be stopped before even thinking about it, but I was just wondering what kind of surgery is available out there and if there were any success stories. I have bumps under my feet and the feeling I get while walking when I flare up is like walking on marbles. I was wondering if surgery would help eventually and how long is the healing process etc. Nat.
Avatar f tn Your pharmacist is always a great source of this type of information regarding side effects and what to avoid while taking a medication. I did do a little research on this for you and while looking at a site, found the following information: What should I avoid while taking methotrexate? Avoid exposure to sunlight or artificial UV rays (sunlamps or tanning beds), especially if you are being treated for psoriasis.
680313 tn?1249312403 I am in the same boat. I tried imuran, after a week the nausea was so bad I started vomitting and couldn't stop. I then went into a crohns flare up and when it was all said and done within in two days my potassuim levels had dropped to the point where I was lucky not to be in the hospital. I tried Humira and was allerigic (hives), tried Remicade it did nothing.
Avatar n tn Does anyone know if I could move back to Remicade if only 8-10 weeks have passed. My side effects on Cimzia are comparable to the.side effects on Humira that caused me to stop using the drug. Remicade is only marginally effective now for my Crohns but the side effects are minimal. Any thoughts would be appreciated. My wife and I are trying to get pregnant so I would prefer to stay away from methotrexate and xeljans right now.
1754908 tn?1312400362 Lately there have been newer medications introduced in the market for RA, that have increased efficacy and relatively fewer side effects. I would suggest discussing a possible change in the medication with your treating rheumatologist. Hope this is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn s is in the terminal ileum area and/or first part of the colon, a newer steroid, Entocort can be used, which does not have the debilitating, and embarrassing, side effects that prednisolone and prednisone do. In the case of flares, steroids are usually prescribed to bring the flare under control, immuno-suppressants to keep the disease, hopefully, in remission. If the Crohn's is intractable, newer drugs, immuno-suppressants (such as methotrexate, remicade, humira, cimzia etc.
Avatar n tn I never wanted to go on MTX because the side effects scare me, and I enjoy a few drinks with friends. A new doctor has put me on it in conjunction with Enbrel because I have couple joints which have been causing me problems. Otherwise, I've been great on Enbrel. I am now in my 3rd week on MTX, and seveal joints are really flaring. I find this very depressing. The GI tract challenges, fatigue and foggy brain are a pain, but my arthritis now seems worse in general.
Avatar f tn hi was just reading your post there i have severe psoriatic arthritis deformed fingers and toes all my fingers have seized completely with arthritis and some are bent over to the side , i was on remacide for 5 years and it made a dramatic change to my life from severe pain to none what so eber i had an iv every 7 weeks of remacide until march this year i woke up with numbness in my left leg which over a few days travelled up my side and face went for an mri and a few months on was diagnosed with
1539111 tn?1293014306 For the four and a half months I was on FEC chemo, I did not eat any solid food because of the chemo side effects and was kept alive by Fortijuice drinks - 3 bottles a day which gave me 900 calories.I also was prescribed 2.5 mg of dexamethasone daily. I continued on methotrexate after bc treatment, orally at first, but my Crohn's symptoms came back with a vengeance and my new gastro changed the mtx to self injected weekly injections of 25 mg.
1024532 tn?1380058352 Couple of thoughts..... are you taking folic acid? It's supposed to help with side effects such as the mouth sores. I take 1 mg which my rheumy put me on a few days before I even started taking the methotrexate. Also, L-lysine supplements are supposed to help with mouth sores as well....may want to do some research online to find out how much to take.... I just don't remember.
Avatar n tn t take it, but I looked it up and it has numerous side-effects and I know from experience that if you start a new medicine and it causes itching of any type you need to contact your Doctor and advise him what's going on. DON'T stop your meds unless he/she tells you to. PLEASE call him/her now. I'll.be.looking for your update. ...........
Avatar f tn That doesn't sound good at all. Combining the methadone and the norco could be too much. Maybe you should call your doctor tomorrow and let him know what's happening. I know nothing about the Humira. Your pharmacy could tell you about any drug interactions. If I were you, I wouldn't take anything else until I spoke with my doctor and/or pharmacist.
Avatar f tn Hi Karen, I'm sorry you're having so much trouble. I also have RA, for which my main medications are methotrexate and Enbrel. If mtx isn't working for you, I would urge you to look into adding a biologic like Enbrel or Humira to the mix. It's very important that you get off the prednisone if at all possible. It can give you short-term relief but trust me, the long-term effects of prednisone are not worth it.
Avatar f tn I have been treated for rheumatoid arthritis with Humira for 7 months including a combination of Humira and methotrexate for the past 2 months. I also take 5mg of prednisone, and 6 Azulfadine tablets each day. I was taking Humira once every fourteen days and I am on 15mg of methotrexate a week. About a month ago, I started experiencing numbness in my toes and feet. I mentioned it to my rheumatologist but she wasn't concerned and simply told me it wasn't rheumatoid arthritis.
Avatar f tn Thanks! I've just started had shot a week ago. Just curious about successes and side effects.
Avatar f tn Granted, we have different types of arthritis, mine being psoriatic arthritis, but I can tell you that I was on Enbrel alone for atleast three years and I had great results with no side effects. For me it was a wonder drug. You may wonder why I would go off something so great...it was a dollars and cents issue. My husband retired and my lifelong coverage of medication was reduced to $100,000. On a medication like Enbrel, I would go through that within 4 to 5 years.
Avatar f tn Common side effects of Humira include: upper respiratory tract infection, headache, injection site reaction, skin rash, antibody development, sinusitis, and pain at injection site. Other side effects include: urinary tract infection, abdominal pain, and flu-like symptoms. https://www.drugs.com/sfx/humira-side-effects.html I'd tell your doctor you are experiencing this.
Avatar f tn I have RA and have been diagnosed 1 year ago. Apparently I'm a severe case. It just keeps progressing. I've been on Plaquenil, Methotrexate for 8 months now. Started Humira injections about 3 months ago. About 2 weeks ago...my left thigh was itching...so I scratched. You should see the bruise I have now. It's been more than a week and its dark purple and measures 6" wide by 6"lenght. Should I worry about it? Is this just a side effect from the meds? I must admit...
1115182 tn?1258760246 I have had Crohn's for 40 yrs; 30 yrs on steroids, 10 on methotrexate. Originally oral, 25 mg a week, but last 4 yrs weekly injections of 25 mg. I had a hemi-colectomy in March 09, with 15 cm of my small and large intestines removed. Unfortunately, I then had a big flare in late September requiring 2 weeks again in hospital. I was put on remicade: gastro said I would have only 3 infusions: 0, 2 weeks, 6 weeks, but still had faecal incontinence and failure to put on weight.
Avatar n tn I recommend going on the injectable form of MTX as it has fewer side effects. It takes another 3 months to determine if this is helping at which point the doc may opt to increase yoru dosage. If you still need something more, the doctor may prescribe Enbrel or Humira. These are both injectables. I have heard wonderful things about them but currently I am not taking them. The doctor will likely also prescribe Naproxen (an anti-inflamatory) and a perhaps something for the pain.
