Avatar n tn There is no evidence to show that cats can transfer FIV to humans. It is important to consider that FIV-positive cats may carry other diseases that can be transferred to humans, such as Toxoplasma gondii (this is especially important for immune-suppressed owners). Avatar f tn ve read on holistic info sites that BUPRENORPHINE is the best and SAFEST pain med for cats....I know thats the one my Vet uses too. Is this for long term use?
Avatar f tn I agree with Dr. Humphries! There are times that human medications may be prescribed for you to use in your dog, but ONLY after a thorough physical exam and possible diagnostic testing to determine what is causing the problem. When laxatives are used in dogs or cats without the proper supervision, they have the potential to cause SERIOUS problems. Definitely seek out your veterinarian's help for your girl.
Avatar m tn Hey Natasha, welcome to the forum, but no, no, no. While amoxicillin IS used on cats, it's impossible to say how much of a 250mg capsule to give since kitty is much smaller than we are. And besides, you don't know What the lump is or even if it would respond to an antibiotic. Just as a good rule of thumb, never give human meds to kitty. Please give your vet a call on this one.
Avatar f tn He has been a basement/outdoor cat for the past two years, because every time we let him upstairs with the other cats (6) he sprays on everything. He is neutered, and had a health checkup, so it has to be behavorial. Has anyone tried Floxetine on their cat for spraying, and did it work. Did you have to keep him on it permanently, or just for awhile?
Avatar n tn I do not use valium in this manner as there have been reports of cats on long-term use going into liver failure. Cats are very sensitive to medications due to a difference in their liver metabolism so never, ever give your cat a human medication without a prescription from her veterinarian. They can be sensitive to herbal remedies as well. You can try some things to help her for now. If she does not routinely get canned food, start giving her a little.
Avatar f tn One of the difficult things about a cat having a stuffed up nose is that if it gets stuffed enough to block up their sense of smell, they WILL stop eating, because a cat will not eat what it cannot smell.
1598071 tn?1298208315 I have tiger striped cats about one year old that have developed wet noses and recently one (male) started coughing a guttural (even a painful sounding) cough. My vet says it's a cold but I'm here to tell you, this "cold" has been going on for over six months. Any suggestions besides the usual "second opinion"? Thanks guys, I just want "Tatum" to be well. My cats are my healers, they walk with me when I exercise, etc.
228686 tn?1211554707 We're in the process of trying to come up with a pet tracker. I'm suggesting two to start; one to track a pet's general overall health, a second would be more specific, dealing with medication amounts and tracking test results.
Avatar n tn 7cm. Our question is, should he be taking any herbal suppliments or other medications on an on going basis? If so, what should he be taking? We have heard that Lymph "A" and Lymph "X" may be helpful but we cannot find any information on them on the Internet. The plan it to do another ultrasound in March to see what, if anything, is happening with the tumor. Thank you for any information you can give us.
423002 tn?1211645982 The only time I believe it is warrented is in the case of human owners who are immunosuppressed or are on anti-rejection medications after a transplant procedure or surgery, such as a heart or liver transplant. Bordetella (cat scratch fever) can be deadly to these individuals. And it is true that the declawed cat soon realizes that it does not have claws and tends to bite more.
Avatar f tn I think we have to seperate our human way of thinking when deciding when any animal is an adult. In humans the so called civilised countries put the age at around 18-21. However, some cultures see humans as adults much younger. As soon as an animal is able to reproduce,, it is an adult. This is its main task, to reproduce and strengthen the chance of the specie surviving.
Avatar f tn Diarrhea can occur for as number of reasons. The three most common are probably parasites, medications, and diet. If parasites, she needs medication to kill the type of parasites s he has. If caused by medications (notibly prolonged use of antibiotics), she needs probiotics, If diet, she needs a change in diet. I agree with Opus regarding the yogurt and pedialyte.
Avatar n tn OH Chas PLEASE DON'T use any human medications on kitty unless prescribed by a Vet in the correct dosage..this could be fatal for him! He seriously needs to see a Vet and be prescribed something for this abcess and soon, it is badly infected if you see pus....anything topical that you may try would just be licked off, he needs a systemic antibiotic.
Avatar f tn Marilee, If I may ask, what are you trying to do? Whatever it is, please be careful. Feral cats can potentially carry diseases, so be careful when you handle them. If you already have cats at home, bear in mind that it isn't uncommon for feral cats to carry the distemper virus which can be passed on to other cats. That's the least of your problems, if you know what I man. Yes, SOME feral cats can be "tamed". They will keep a wild side to them, always!!
Avatar m tn According to this site http://www.****.biz can be used on a number of ailments for pets specially cats and dogs? Has anyone used it before? Thanks in advance.
592969 tn?1248325405 At this point, you might need to wash all the bedding and vacuum really frequently. Vacuum the crevices and under furniture and all furniture material. Take the material that was vacuumed up out to the trash immediately. Frontline and Advantage are products I use on my 2 indoor cats. I know we'll bring a few fleas in from the outdoors and need to reapply the flea medicine to our cats every once in awhile for control.
7891785 tn?1397532007 My dog is a lab/border collie mix and she used to sit in my lap and lean/lay on my stomach all the time - doc said I was fine, so unless your cat is bigger than my lab I think you should be okay :-)
Avatar f tn A ginger cat used to invade his territory and they had awful fights. Eventually the fights started taking place in our very livingroom during the night (the invader cat got in through the catflap). We found the invader cute, and he was friendly to us, so we fed him and pet him. The cat moved to an armchair that used to be our cat's. Once the cat dared to lie on our bed. The next day our cat not only pissed in our bed, but...
Avatar n tn I also would add, if you are wanting to give a medication to a cat (or a human), there is not a lot of room for error. You have to be dead correct on what is wrong, what should be given as a result, and what amount to give. And that is if you have meds formulated for the species you are treating. It's just never a good idea to take someone else's medications.
Avatar m tn It seems to help a little, but I am still coughing. My father used to have bad allergies to our cats, and my parents think that maybe the cats are causing the problem. This seems to make some sense, except that this all started with a cold while in Minnesota, and also, remember the cats have been sick as well. They were sick before me. That led us to believe that it might be something in our apartment. We had the air tested for mold and some other common problems, which came back as normal.
