humalog

Avatar n tn The Levemir is NOT on a sliding scale. It is a given does once a day Or twice a day. 12 hours apart. is his 224 after eating or first thing in the morning before food or drink?
Avatar n tn I give myself about 21 units of insulin per day--13 units of Lantus and a sliding scale of Humalog between 6-10 units--depending on how many carbohydrates I have eaten--So, it takes me about 2-3 months to use a bottle of Humalog and the Lantus would take longer, but I must open a new bottle every month for consistency issues. Does that help?
Avatar m tn Hi! I'm in a 20ui HUMALOG after meals regiment, however, in between meals and during the night my blood sugar levels drop below 70. Should I stop taking the HUMALOG?
Avatar n tn I know our readings are different in canada , 5 to 7 is normal.I have had sugars as high as 32 and used 10 units of humalog , half an hour later I am 34 , I don't understand this ? What is the ratio of humalog to carbs ? I had the flu and I know it can really mess up your sugars , but this was a month ago .Also , I generally feel better when my sugars are around 13 , anything below that and I feel the efects of hyperglycemea , I know that does,t make sense , but it is how I feel.
Avatar n tn So, if your blood sugar is 300 you would subtract 100 to get 200. Divide that by 40 to get 5 units of Humalog. I also have a scale for when I eat. It's for every 15 grams of carbs I take 2 units of Humalog. When your blood sugar is high in the morning you would do both of these things. Of course, you need to talk w/ your doc about all of this because everyone is different. I would suggest, however, that you first talk to your doc about the high blood sugars in the morning.
Avatar n tn By the above formula, taking one unit of Humalog would drop my bloodsugar by 60 mg/dl. This is way too high. 10 units would put me at a drop of 600. I've take as much as 10 units of humalog with a bloodsugar drop of maybe 40-50 mg/dl. Am I reading this correctly?
Avatar f tn and weights well over 230 pounds only takes 34 units of lantus at night and up to 16 units of humalog if he eats pizza. I have told him that the lantus dose is governed by weight and since I weigh 220 and take 33 units a day, he isn't taking nearly enough. I think he is compensating with the humalog, which runs a higher risk that he will and does have insulin reactions. I also started out taking lantus at night.
Avatar m tn Well - yopu have to lose weight. That is a must. 10 units of Humalog before meals is high but isn't exceptionally high. What is your glucose reading two hours later? What kind of meal are you eating?
Avatar n tn Per UCLA Med Center we are currently dosing him 8 units of Lantus split to 5 units in the AM before school, then 3 units about 2 hours before bedtime), with a bedtime BG check. We also are giving 1 unit Humalog per carb unit. We found the thigh for him is the best place for the Lantus. Stomach absorption rate was too fast. It's early in the game but this so far is working quite well for us. During the initial 15 days we administered first 12, then 10 Lantus all at night, as recommended.
Avatar f tn We cannot recommend nor suggest adjustments to medication dosages as we are not privy to your medical records or history. That is question for your Endo.
Avatar n tn I had Gastric By-Pass January 7, 2007 and have lost about 74lbs. I still want to lose about 25 more lbs but since surgery I am having a really hard time controlling my blood sugars. I take 35 units of Lantus and I'm on a sliding scale of Humalog (I take anywhere from 3 to 10 units of Humalog). I just got back from lunch (I ate about an hour ago) and when I checked my blood sugar it was 310. It has gotten to where 250 - 300 is more the normal than before when it was about 80 - 120.

Avatar n tn My 11 yr old son is on Lantis and Humalog. He takes 33 units of Lantis at 9:00 pm. At noon today I made the mistake of giving him 2 units of Lantis instead of Humalog. Is he going to be OK? What can I do for him now?
Avatar m tn before I was on 20 units 3 times daily I lowered the dose to 10 units 3 times a day as I lost weight because the 20 units was way to much and the last 2 months I have only taken 1 to 2 shots of 10 units each.
Avatar f tn His doctor just switched his Lantus dose from 5 units in the morning to 4 units in the morning and 1 around dinner time. He had no ketones at all, I ended up giving him plenty of water and a correction, I had him stay up for 45 minutes after correction and tested him again he was at 299 and ended up waking up at 157 (his target is 150). September will mark 2 years since his diagnoses, and we seem still to be adjusting and figuring out his doses, it's really frustrating!
Avatar n tn No I have not had that experience with Humalog-in fact it works very well for me. I use a sliding scale of Humalog at mealtimes and I use 14 units of Lantis each evening. Lantis is a 24 cylce insulin or a long acting insulin where Humalog is short term or short acting insulin. But this just shows you that different people have different needs. Before I used Lantis I used to use NPH-which is a shorter long acting inuslin-more like 8 hours. Have you tried giving your Novolin before you eat?
Avatar n tn 00 in the morning and test my bs I can be at a normal level again prety quick using the 2 units of humalog to every 50 bs I need to drop, and my bs usualy stay pretty stable with this method. It's not perfect but it seems to work for me.
Avatar n tn 17 yrs? and now your asking? You R Serious, right? Go ahead take just the Lantus and test every couple of hours after and of course before meals and see what happens.. and I surely Hope you got the book > Think Like a Pancrease my friend..
Avatar n tn what should I do if I give myself 25 units of regular humalog insulin at night when it should have been 25 units of lantus? this happened last night at 10:00 and at 10:30 I drank a lot of juice with sugar loaded in it, and about 8 oz. of peanut butter that I figured would be broken down later to aid me if this over abundance of insulin was to overcome me. I waited until 11:30 and was exhausted and fell asleep. I was awoken at 1:30 A.M. in a seizure, my body convulsing.
Avatar n tn how many units per day are you shooting? take that number and divide into the capacity of the pen and you have your answer.
Avatar m tn I am on Lantus 40 units, twice a day. Humalog sliding scale, starting at 20 units. For every 50 mg/dl over 150, 2 more units. In a typical day, Between 20-28 units multiple times a day. A1c=7.7 currently. Is Humalog maybe not the right choice if I need such high dosing?
Avatar n tn I have been a type 1 diabetic for over 16 years and have always been taking around 6 units of R in the morning with some N. That has seemed to work fine until recently my lunch blood sugar levels have been sky high. I keep adding more R (i'm not at 10 units) and it seems like the R is not working at all. I have even changed the bottle just in case there was something wrong with that vial and nothing has changed.
Avatar f tn His dosage on his lantus only went up 4 units a day. I get the same exact box as I always did but now its costing me double. His Humalog also went up $10.00 for no reason anyone can think of. Instead of paying $95.00 like I thought it ended up costing $255.00. We live paycheck to paycheck and since moving to a small town I haven't been able to find a job. There will be no Christmas this year and we are barely getting by.
Avatar n tn s digested more slowly that what the carb coverage with Humalog allows. I usually end up doing a correction bolus of a couple units of Humalog something like six hours after the meal to get my readings down to normal. Some people have problems with potatoes, others with white flour breads -- so you'll have to discover what carbs you're sensitive to and keep an eye out for higher than normal readings if you eat them.
