ve found between the two is in the preservative used .... some people have an allergic reaction to to the Humalog preservative and Novolog works better (and vice versa). As far as speed - I really couldn't tell a difference between the two, I guess it just varies from person to person like everything else. You'll know it's a preservative issue if your child complains the site "really itches" even after a day.
Poor absorbtion comes from a variety of things.
7:30am (breakfast), 9:30 am, noon, 5:30 pm (dinner), 7:30 pm, and 9:30 pm. My concern is the apparent difference in effectiveness of the Humalog which he takes at 7:30 am and 5:30 pm. He measures his blood sugar two hours after taking the Humalog (@ 9:30 am and @ 7:30 pm). Over a seven week period his 9:30 am reading has averaged 214 and his 7:30 reading has averaged 113). His physical activity during the 2 hour periods after taking Humalog are about the same.
His behaviour became worse overnight and continued like this until just before Christmas when we made the decision to take him off the humalog again for good. It took 3 days this time for his behaviour to return to normality.
I mentioned these problems to his consultant who was very scathing and dismissive and told me the behaviour problems were due to his low blood sugar, even though he regularly has bad hypos on his normal insulin.
I started controlling my blood sugar using Regular insulin About 3 years ago, my doctor moved me to humalog. Using humalog was not easy. I looked at the study that was done and it never reacted as expected when I used it. It was taking 2 hours to start working and in by the third hour my glucose level would drop 200 to 250. It was also hard for me to sense when my blood sugar is low. That was very frustrating. After six month of roller coaster, my doctor put me on Novolog.
I know our readings are different in canada , 5 to 7 is normal.I have had sugars as high as 32 and used 10 units of humalog , half an hour later I am 34 , I don't understand this ? What is the ratio of humalog to carbs ? I had the flu and I know it can really mess up your sugars , but this was a month ago .Also , I generally feel better when my sugars are around 13 , anything below that and I feel the efects of hyperglycemea , I know that does,t make sense , but it is how I feel.
I know this is different for everyone - but generally, what is the ratio for the # of mg/dml units dropped by 1 unit of insulin. Like Humalog U100 R. Does anyone know? Lilly (the mfg. of Humalog) said that they didn't have those numbers (I didn't believe that). Just curious. I asked a Diabetes Trainers from my hospital and she didn't have an idea either.
Is it common for someone with type 2 diabetes to be on Humalog 3X daily and Lantus 1X daily?
Sometimes he just was not hungry and other times he wanted to eat more at one time. If we had opted for lantus and then humalog to correct and to cover food, I would be running back and forth to school because he was not ready to give shots and we talked about the pump and watched a video about it and decided together.
I have recently been switched to Lantus & Humalog and I have some questions. I take it in the morning. If I awake with an abnormal blood sugar (too high) I assume I would take a small dose of fast acting. Would I also take a small dose of fast acting if my blood sugar is normal, as to cover my breakfast? I know to count the carbs before the lunch meal and the dinner meal, but didn't ask about the breakfast meal.

I didn't see your msg until today and hope I can be of some help to you. I'm not a physician, but I have been a pumper for ~9 years and have had DM for ~35.
When I starated pumping, the only insulins available were "Regular" insulin and the main difference, as you know, is "how quickly" the insulin starts working, when it peaks and how long it lasts. Regular normally kicks in later than Novolog or Humalog will.
my fathers blood sugar is 224 how many units of levemir flexpen do i give him his Dr put him on a sliding scale. i dont know what the dosage is ???? i give him humalog the scale is 200 to 250/ 5 units and so on. Is there a guideline of units for levemir ?
I currently take humalog before meals and such.. The peak time is around 2 hours with a duration of like 6. So anyway I was wondering, When I go out with my friends and eat ice cream or something like, right now the sugar peaks way before my humalog, but what if I injected my humalog into muscle tissue, so it was absorbed rapidly. I think this would better match the peak of the sugar. Lets say im eating on an empty stomach so it is absorbed very fast.
An alternative, may be to not take it tonight, as your current dose lasts until tomorrow morning anyway, but to use your fast acting insulin during the day tomorrow for corrections if you are higher than normal (I assume you are familiar with using your Humalog for correction of high blood sugars), and then start taking the night time dose tomorrow night following your Drs instruction.

I have been diabetic for ten years now and have been taking lantus and humalog this whole time. Well a new doctor Im seeing took me off lantus due to the fact that it could cause my twins to become insulin resistant. She has me taking more of the humalog but it doesn't seem to be helping me and now i have a harder time controlling my sugar where before i kept it pretty well controlled. Should i get a second opinion or does anyone have suggestions?
what is the dosage for humalog for the number of carbs consumed? Such as 90 carbs how many humalog units.
My son has a 341 BG and no ketones but is very weak, I am watching him carefully and giving him plenty of water. It has been just 3 hours since his last humalog shot, and he gets 1 unit lantus at 7pm (now 9:40). He is really WEAK, when this occurs should more humalog (as in correction) be given? It's bedtime and I don't want him to drop low.
My daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 5 years old. She has been giving NPH with Humalog. It hasn't been working much though because she's high most of the time even when we watch what she eats and exercises. It just doesn't make much sense why the NPH isn't working anymore. She's on a sliding scale for Humalog and she gives a shot of 40 units of NPH in the morning.
