How zomig works

Common Questions and Answers about How zomig works

zomig

768044 tn?1294223436 Mostly I stick with my Zomig and for the majority of my migraines and the Zomig works. It tends to only be the migraines that wake me up that the zomig just won't work for. Or, sometimes if a migraine comes back on the same day, a second dose of zomig won't work to get rid of it either and it will be much more severe when it comes back. Although, really, over-all, the zomig works the majority of the time.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Zomig 2.5mg which is a serotonin agonist. Naproxen is given for migraine patients because it works synergistically with serotonin agonists as it also increases the activity of serotonin in the synapse. However, I would love to have some effective pain medication so that I don't take Zomig everyday! My neurologist advised me to take the Zomig as soon as I feel a headache coming on so that it doesn't snowball into a severe migraine...
Avatar m tn Probably the 5mg Zomig Nasal Spray which works in 10 minutes or the 5mg Zomig-ZMT which works in 30 minutes would be best for SS. So... it really depends on how long your SS lasts for. If it lasts for more than half an hour usually, a quick dissolve tablet might be an option for you. Otherwise, if it lasts half an hour or less, then a nasal spray triptan looks like your best option for treatment. In case your SS DOES last for more than half an hour usually...
1102283 tn?1257817472 I personally use Zomig Nasal Spray and find it works extremely well. I also have found great success with Maxalt-MLTs. Although, everyone is different and all of the triptans on the market have been proven effective in clinical trials, so please discuss with the doctor in the clinic which triptan would be the most appropriate in your situation. Although, if you want to go in suggesting something...
86075 tn?1238115091 a friend told me it works great for headaches...does anyone have any experience with it? or know about it? thanks...!
Avatar f tn I take Zomig (I get migraines about 3-5 times a year) and Zomig knocks it out. Ironically, Norco used to give me headaches and then unfortunately, I became accustomed to them and addicted to them...... Now I am on day 14 with no opiates and I am still not quite well, but better each day. I won't be touching those demonic yellow pills anymore. Fortunately, my pain level is manageable as well. Opiates cause rebound pain the same way rebound headaches work. I wish you the best.
910419 tn?1289483727 I have a tentative diagnosis of basilar migraine that got slapped on me ~7 years ago. That was before my heart condition was diagnosed, so I'm not sure if I still qualify. The thing is, I have an Rx for Zomig, (a triptan) and my mom's made me really scared of taking the Zomig for fear of cutting off blood circulation. Does anybody else here have basilar migraines and take triptans? If not, do you have an abortive of any kind?
Avatar n tn d suggest trying another triptan. There are lots on the market. I use zomig nasal spray, it works fairly well... not 100%, but, it can stop a lot of my migraines. If zomig doesn't work for you, there are still tons of other triptans on the market.. maxalt... and try different types of delivery methods too. Are you taking tablets. Tablets do NOT work very well AT ALL. Try a triptan in a nasal spray.
768044 tn?1294223436 Has anyone else here tried Imitrex Injection? How did you find using the injection pen? Was it easy to learn how to use? Did you find it worked better then the other triptans? Thanks to anyone that answers who has any experience... or even anyone who has just been given a shot of Imitrex in the hospital before, how was that?
Avatar n tn After some time of taking zomig nearly everyday I had to resort to syndol again. The side effects of zomig are not pleasant at all and drain all my energy and are too expensive to take everyday. The syndol seemed to be working but after a while they kind of stopped working again but was again addicted. I have lost hope of my headache problem ever being solved. I cannot stand all this pain and drugs. One way or another I feel sick all times of the day with no exaggeration whatsoever.
Avatar m tn s not handy, 4-5 200mg ibuprofen. The Zomig is an oral disintegrating tablet, and works in less than 5 minutes. It does leave you feeling a tad spaced out, but I'll take that any day of the week compared to a frenzied/panicked trip to the ER (and the $2k subsequent bill). Xanax should also work, but you should can't take too much of it.
Avatar f tn Headache on left front side with a crazy visual aura, took zomig, hour later took ibuprofen 600, albuterol sulfate and Ritalin. Cold and hot feeling across skin, mostly on right side, nausea, joint pain, burning pain in abdomen and chest, dizzy, tired and short of breath. Migrating sharp pains across body. Ringing ears. Vision is unnaturally blurry. Chest and stomach symptoms worsen when laying down, head symptoms worsen when standing up.
Avatar m tn Now... just if you're wondering how the stuff works at all... I can let you know that too. Well, during a migraine... a bunch of stuff happens in your brain that causes all the symptoms of a migraine.
1030950 tn?1261010513 Do you take the nasal spray version? I do, I think that is the best version of zomig. It works the fastest. If you are taking the pill version and you are finding some relief but not complete relief, I would suggest talking to your doctor about switching you to the Nasal Spray version of Zomig... since it works much better.
Avatar f tn Hi!!! I posted a question asking if zomig knocked other people out.... or if anyone found any sort of knock-out side-effects with triptans... I totally feel out of it after I take my triptans... it takes the pain away... but I am out of it... tired... fatigued... and even confused sometimes for hours after the migraine... sometimes for the rest of the day!!!
Avatar f tn When i get them i generally get 4 or 5 over as many days with blind spots and dizziness. I was prescribed Zomig by my doctor and it works wonders if you take it as soon as you notice the migraine. Otherwise I usually take strong pain tablets with a relaxant and try to get some sleep.
Avatar f tn ve had migraines for years (comes with having 4 kids I think-ha); the only meds that help relieve most of the pain are Zomig (really expensive, but no generic version yet) and Meloxicam (generic for Mobic) - both pills taken together usually decrease pain within an hour or two. Hope this helps. My doc also suggested Imitrex when I can't afford the Zomig anymore.
1807779 tn?1333840302 I take fiorcet whenever I have a bad headache. It works well for me.
1132246 tn?1260288259 Or do you use a Triptan for acute migraine, like zomig, maxalt, amerge? There are many listed on the forum, under which Triptans doe you use, and Happy with Preventative treatment......... Sorry you ar suffering so much. It sounds like you need to get with your Dr and get on some treatment for these....if you haven't already. Or even be referred to a migraine specialist.........
Avatar n tn there are many different kinds, and they all have different effects on people. zomig rarely works for me, but i find that treximet (naproxen, an NSAID, and imitrex combined; relatively new) worked. maxalt worked for me too. it is a lot of playing around; it's hard especially because these are expensive drugs. what is her blood pressure? normal? i find that if mine's low, i have a throbbing headache. also, did she get blood tests?
521800 tn?1212329682 Thank you for your response, next time I go to the doctor i will definitly ask for an antimigraine. I used to also use the Zomig Nasal Spray but that would just immediatly put me to sleep and when i would wake up my body would feel sore but my headache was gone. i had also tried other pills to take as soon as i felt the migraine coming but those never really worked. Is there anything i should be worried about with the zomig because that seemed to be the only thing that worked before.
Avatar n tn Does anyone have experience with using Zomig or one of the other Triptan medications during pregnancy? What was your experience like? Tylenol is not working for me.
Avatar n tn I have a gap in my brain about the width of a quarter down to my left ventricle. My question is how to get rid of these headaches? They are not always migraines, but shattering pain originating from my scar down to seemingly the middle of my brain in the front part of my head? I have been prescribed narcotic like drugs for years as well as drugs such as topirimate and gambumetone? I dont really remember the names so I apologize.
