Common Questions and Answers about How to use concerta for weight loss

concerta

Avatar f tn Hi there, Concerta is quite well known to cause weight loss, common complaints of appetite being suppressed, not being hungry, feeling full etc occur in all ages and gender. Significant weight loss is probably one of the more common reasons for a change in medication, so i would definitely recommend discussing your weight loss concerns with your prescribing dr.
Avatar f tn My daughter is 6 years old, on concerta for ADHD and is losing weight. She has been on medications for adhd for over a year now. She was born at 35 weeks by c-section, hospitalized several times before age 2 for respiratory conditions. She has a congenital dislocation of her elbows, significantly more pronounced on left side, for which she is being monitored by Shriners hospital. No other significant medical history.
Avatar n tn I'm still confused about how long is too long to be on this medication and will the weight loss adventually stop or at least slow down? What is non-stimulant Strattera and how will it help my son?
558991 tn?1226060828 I advised her against it, saying diet and excersise are the best options, but she has a lot of trouble loosing weight, like most of my family. I am very worried that Concerta mixed with any weight loss medications can cause problems. Are my fears rational? Thanks.
Avatar f tn My doctor also prescribed Phenteramine 37.5 mg for weight loss. I take both together in the morning. I do go to him every month and have a check up so he can check my blood pressure...it is always low anyways. But he does keep a close eye on me. Also, if I have something stressfull happen in my life, I drop the phenterimine for a couple of days to prevent an anxidy attack. Phenteramine does make you anxious,,, more so than the adderall or Concerta.
Avatar n tn yes as the child grows and yes in weight particularly they dosage has to be increased or it will not work how it should and has in the past i know with the concerta they roughly work it out 1mg for each kilogram,so my child is on 36mg but weighs 40kg we went just under as apposed to giving to higher dose.
565294 tn?1216433315 also i live in oswego Illinois has any one herd of any support groups out there for moms and dads? or classes to help parents with dealing with adhd behaviors and how to respond better or how to say things better (to add encouragement) its a ttough job somedays.
Avatar f tn As far as trying to keep the weight from going to low I would try to get in as much protein as possible. It may be hard but, try to take in 1.5g of protein per pound of body weight per day over 5-6 small meals. A protein shake may help with that too. Gold Standard Whey is a pretty good choice. I do hear you though. It feels like you have to force yourself to eat. Let me know how things are going.
Avatar n tn t be given them anything and us parents should be say know to them and asking them to find another way to treat them. Also they should check for other things that are going on beside add or adhd. There are may things that can cause a child to do things beside just them having addd or adhd .Like lenoxx gastro syndrome or landow kleffner syndrome, along with others.
Avatar n tn Thanks, Barb, Sooo glad to have you with us!!! There is a little way to "jump start" your weight loss .. it is the same thing used to help us over a plateau. Eat 200 less calories than normal for Day 1 and Day 2, then eat 200 calories more than normal for Day 3. So, if I'm eating 1,400 calories a day, I will eat 1,200 for Days 1 and 2 and then 1,600 for Day 3.
Avatar n tn t found the right dosage). The other side effect that is most troubling is the loss of appetite. When we went to see his specialist, 6 days ago, he'd lost 4.5 lbs (in 40 days). When I weighed him tonight on my own scale, he's down another 6lbs. I know there is a difference between the scale at the hospital and my scale, but it isn't likely 6 lbs. The sleeping issue we are working on and are quite hopeful. The weight loss is quite frightening.
1367899 tn?1278121440 My sister and I started a blog on Adderall to learn more about the medication along with alternative and complementary ADHD treatment options. Any feedback from users of Adderall or Adderall XR would be greatly appreciated. Topics to be added this week on http://Adderall.org How is Adderall XR different from Adderall? [Adderall vs. Adderall XR] What is Adderall? How to Make Adderall: [Adderall Background Information] What are the best Adderall and ADHD books?
Avatar f tn If I just say no to bread to lose the weight and say yes to bread once I have lost it I will simply regain the weight back (remember the metabolism will be lower due to the loss regardless of exercise). You need to learn how to lose weight with bread..thats how you lose it and not predispose yourself to weight regain. Most people don't have a problem with weight loss, they have a problem with weight regain. Hope that helps.
Avatar f tn and she put me back on lamictal 100 mg final dose, 25mg serquel at bedtime to sleep and 36mg of concerta a day and I feel great and have not gained any weight at all, actually seemed to have lost a few pounds and able to keep a lower weight. Maybe it is the abilify.
1756969 tn?1332437163 Another very important part of this is to start taking more then just meds. You need to learn how to deal anxiety and ADHD. Hopefully, you doctor can give you some insight on coping with these. Two sites aimed at the adult ADD sufferer that you might want to check out are totallyadd.com and http://jeffsaddmind.com/for-first-time-visitors. Both sites are done by people with ADD. totallyadd was actually a PBS special and consequently is a series of short videos.
Avatar m tn Im a 16 yearold male that plays a ton of sports and works out a lot but I'm never hungry! Its really weird all my buddies eat a ton of food after our games and in general there always hungry! I'm 6 feet tall and weigh 160 pounds. I am starting to feel weak because I don't eat. Is it normal for me to feel like this? I'm currently on 105mg of concerta. Could the concerta be doing it to me?
Avatar m tn She seems to be doing really well in school but the side effects at home are becoming hard for us to handle. SHe has become very nonaffectionate, emotional, withdrawn, and seems to be uninterested in life. She also will not eat at all. She is eating maybe one meal a day. I am wondering if we switch medications, will the side effects be the same/as bad? This is making me not want her to be on medication, but she seems to be doing so much better in school.
Avatar n tn I have an 8 year old son that can not control his bowel movements. He's always soiling in his pants and when I ask him why he says it just comes out. He's been on Concerta for a little over a year now and I'm not sure if this is what's causing the problem. Does anyone have the same problem?
Avatar f tn Serious, life-threatening side effects can occur if you use Concerta before the MAO inhibitor has cleared from your body.
Avatar n tn The bar exam is on July 24th-26th, 2017. I have never taken Concerta everyday for this long before, and I know that daily use is not encouraged. However, I feel that taking it daily would allow me to prepare for the exam to the best of my ability. The amount of information I need to learn is substantial, as is the difference in my ability to study for long hours on and off the medicine.
Avatar f tn This is the type of fatigue you are talking about and that I know quite well. I can sleep for 12-14 hours and still not have the energy to do anything. Probably the best way to explain this is that is is like you just finished running a marathon. You aren't sleepy, but you no longer have any energy left to do anything other than sit.
Avatar f tn It seems a bit odd that these symptoms would only appear when switched to a lower dose than he was used to. How much concerta does he take a day?
Avatar n tn Which would make more sense then the Concerta being the problem. And Risperdal could be the reason for the weight gain too. Here is a link to the info I was looking at on Risperdal - http://www.crazymeds.us/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Meds/Risperdal By the way, don't suddenly stop the Risperdal. You must sloooowly come off of it. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Your body is prone to homeostasis. The human body is a wondrous thing that will adapt to a diet, the theory being that this is what stalls weight loss for many people who follow low-calorie diets. When you decrease your calories for a low-calorie diet, your body produces hormones to regulate metabolism and lipid oxidation; this process then slows how efficiently your body burns calories.
Avatar n tn but it is questionable to me why none of the medications work for her and none of the medications cause a loss of appetite, she actually seems to always to be hungry. I do not know where else to go...two psyhiatrists, one psychologist, and out family doctor... Now we have to make a change of some kind she has elevated liver enzyme and increased heart rate so family doctor wants to take her off her adderall. Any thoughts???
