Avatar n tn Medical research shows that the most effective treatment plan for eczema involves using a combination of therapies to treat the skin and making lifestyle changes(prevention of triggers and application of lots of moisturizers) to control flare-ups. For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid which are available by prescription. Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin.
1227049 tn?1267237385 I recently had an appointment with my dermtaologist who gave the exact same answer regarding Elidel and Protopic, however I failed to garner any definitive information regarding how safe it is to continue using Hydrocortisone consistently. From what I have read it is very difficult to control itchiness/redness with those two drugs which is exactly what I am trying to do... Hydrocortisone is the only topical which gives me any relief.

Avatar n tn Acyclovir is sometimes used to treat eczema herpeticum, which is a skin infection caused by the herpes virus, to treat and prevent herpes infections of the skin. People who suffer from this disorder should avoid contact with triggering factors like soaps, cosmetics, jewelry, clothing, and detergents. Sometimes sweat, changes in temperature and psychological stress are known to trigger these episodes.

1522016 tn?1292169443 Hi, welcome to the forum, eczema or allergic dermatitis occurs secondary to exposure to allergen and mediated by IgE antibodies. Your body is known to hypersensitive to certain things. You need to rule out the triggering factor like particular clothes you wear, any chemical agent you are exposed to etc. This triggering factor should be identified and should be avoided. A skin allergy test can be useful. Treatment includes anti histaminic and glucocorticoids against prescription.
Avatar f tn I get anxious because of my eczema ( which i have also gone to extremes to treat) and then my eczema gets worse because i am anxious andit is a never ending cycle
Avatar m tn I eventually consulted a doctor about this and they subsequently diagnosed me with eczema and prescribed an ointment to treat it - It was quite some time ago so I can't remember what It would have been. Prior to that, I had been really suffering - I could not shower, sleeping was difficult, etc - and I tried to narrow down the cause(s).
Avatar n tn If it is on the genitals, it can be painless and usually it can be easily diagnosed because genital psoriaisis tends to shed the built up skin quickly. If you do not have built up patchy skin on the genitals than more than likely it is eczema. However, psoriasis tends to itch. HELL psoriais is derived from the word psora which means "To Itch" in Greek.
Avatar m tn About 6 months ago, the skin on my point finger (right hand) started drying out and cracking to the point where it would bleed. Shortly after the rash moved to my thumb right next to it. Jump to today where I know how 5 fingers impacted - 3 on my right hand and 2 on my left hand. I've tried treating it with prescription medication for eczema but it had no impact. The same medicine helps eczema that I have on my foot (which I started getting just about a year ago.
Avatar f tn Hello, Writing about an event which happened yesterday, need an honest/informed opinion as to what I need to do. I was driving home when I saw a person get into an accident on their bike, so I pulled over to try and assist them until the ambulance came (was called). I went over to help, person didn't have any MAJOR injuries aside from some bone/muscle pain and some random scratches/minor cuts on hands and arm.
Avatar f tn my skin felt great for about 6months. However, after applying the Vaseline to my face a few nights ago i noticed that my eczema was actually worse in the morning. I believe the vaseline caused the redness and inflammation because I did not apply any other product to my face-- no makeup or lotions and I didn't eat anything out of the ordinary.
Avatar m tn Medical research shows that the most effective treatment plan for eczema involves using a combination of therapies to treat the skin and making lifestyle changes(prevention of triggers and application of lots of moisturizers) to control flare-ups. If the eczema is more severe, phototherapy (a type of treatment that uses light therapy) or systemic (circulates throughout the body) medication like oral steroids may be prescribed.
Avatar m tn Im 15 and I got a few circle shaped white spots on my face, :(. Im a male btw! I don't know how to get rid of them either, first when they appeared there was a tiny red almost like a pimple in the middle of them, and the spot was very dry. I applied moisturizer to the spots and the dryness went away fairly quickly. I hadn't used sunscreen all to much while boating and going to soccer...but now i do! (After the spots came). How can i get them off?
Avatar n tn When using Elidel, a TCI, commonly used to treat eczema or dermatitis; how long should it take (using twice a day) to start seeing results? I used this for 12 consecutive days with no improvement in my skin discoloration or tenderness, & I was using it on naturally thin skin to treat what I thought was dermatitis. I have heard that it takes longer for Elidel to take effect compared to a low strength steroid cream, but exactly how long should you use it for, without noticing any improvement?

Avatar f tn Hi DR sorry to bother you again could you please explain to me how HIV would have to transmit through Eczema theoretically? Would the HIV infected person have to be bleeding then touch the other persons sores. Is that what direct contact means? I'm a little confused on this. Or would the HIV positive person just need a sore on their hand then touch the other persons eczema sore? Thank you so much for your time this is causing my friend much anxiety.
Avatar n tn About 4 and a half to 5 years ago I developed a rash under the arms that became infected. I continued getting infections in different places after that, mostly the legs and under the arms. The doctors couldn't tell me specifically what it was and the antibiotics they prescribed didn't do alot of good. It eventually went away on it's own but i would still get small infections once in a while. a year or so after this incident, I joined the military.
Avatar m tn it appears to be an "eczema" disease. i'v been experiencing it for 2 years and it spreaded from my middle, to the 2nd, 4th and now the 1st finger (only right hand). So the finger's skin made a cycle, where it peeled, and then it grows the newer one but its thick and theres no fingrprint in it, then it goes back to peeling and again. (But in a small area).
Avatar m tn I have eczema in my eyebrow/upper cheek on the left side of my face. I used to have dandruff, but it has essentially cleared after using zinc shampoo a few times a week. But the skin is still greasy under my brow and on my eyelid, which results in hairs being weak and falling out. Any suggestions to clear up the greasy skin? I've tried hydrocortisone cream, but to little avail. Also, the condition seems to worsen after a night of drinking alcohol - is that part of the problem?
