I do not want to take Metformin and become ill, especially since I still work full time. But in a few years - I may try all of these. My weight seems to have leveled off. We had tried for 6 years to get pregnant with one miscarriage and finally after the weight loss and a less stressful environment we did it. We are almost 14 weeks now with a natural set of twins. I have PCOS too and I have been put on Metformin which helps with weight loss. People with PCOS have a higher insulin levels which decreases your female hormones and increases the male hormones which cause the hair growth and scattered periods. These are things that you know about but with increased insulin levels your body does not process the food correctly and tends to hold onto it which is why I gained weight! Metformin is for glucose patients and that is why it helps PCOS patients.
Hello I'm new to this forum. I was diagnosed with PCOS several years ago. I began gaining weight when I began my menstual cycle when I was 8 years old. I gained 70 pounds within 5 months and by the time I was 12 years old I was at 260 pounds. I am now 27 years old and at 368 pounds. I have tried everything to lose weight. I've been on Metformin for over 3 years now, eat a 1500 calorie, low carb diet, exercies, and nothing.
An endocrinologist will definitely be able to help you with this. Excessive weight worsens the symptoms of PCOS. Hence weight loss by whatever means is a must. Weight loss is best achieved by dietary modification in consultation with a dietician and regular exercise. As you are already going to the gym, an appointment with a dietician can be done.

As with ANY treatment, it is effective for most people but not everyone. Also, some people do have weight loss as Metformin helps their body use insulin. Again, it varies from person to person.
I too am on metformin I didn't have to do anything to lose weight I have been on it for a month and lost two pounds maybe more on it. I can stand to lose 30 pounds and I weigh 177. I'm guessing it works different for different ppl does it not make you go to the bathroom?
I started metformin about five weeks ago and the first four weeks weight was coming off fairly fast and this past week I haven't lost any, so my question is has anyone or is it frequent the Met will work briefly and then the weight loss will stop. I'm also just wanting to hear how much promblems people were having befor met and how much weight came off after and what amount of time did it take? Thanks for your guys help. What I think you should ask your doctor for is a recommendation to a nutrionist if weight loss is your main goal and reason for taking metformin. Also find out why you were prescribed metformin (ie was it to control your menstrual cyle, maintain or help with the PCOS, help you acheive a pregnancy in the long run, or for another health reason like diabetes, etc).
Recently whenever I checked my fasting blood sugar it is not below 170. I
