564710 tn?1217719711 Okay, so I wasn't sure where to post this so.. And I saw one past that was here and I figured this wasas good a place as any. So, I'm 14 years old and my parents yell at me any time I start biting my nails. I've been biting them all my life. But when I bring up the fact that they can buy me things on the market to help control my bad habit, they refuse and say I need to use my will power. Only problem is I'm not a very willful girl.
Avatar f tn I'm a 14 yr old girl with a great life most of the time, not much drama and i do well at school with stress only during the really big tests so i dont understand why i bite my nails and do so till they bleed. I've bitten my nails since i was little and recently I have been trying everything i can think of to stop. The one main thing I've figured out is this addiction to biting my nails overcomes my willpower.
Avatar f tn I really have a problem with nail biting and REALLY REALLY REALLY want to stop anybody else have this problem or has conquered this?
Avatar f tn I am a chemical engineer and I own and run an independent contract research laboratory. Like everyone who has posted a "help me" comment on this site, I too was a compulsvie nail biter for about the first 35 years of my life. The habit is currently being classified by the shrinks of the world as an OCD. May be some truth to that and it is possible that it afflicts Type A personalities more so than others. As may be.
Avatar f tn i found this product called MAVALA STOP that worked within 1 week. i even used it to stop biting my nails. designed for nail biters and finger suckers, it goes on like clear nail polish but tastes terribly bitter, awful. stays on too and not easy to get rid of.
13071689 tn?1456196798 You can buy a nail varnish that is specifically made to help you to stop biting your nails. - It apparently tastes horrible.
Avatar f tn Put a picture of a pretty manicure on your wall and use it as a reminder to try to keep your nails looking nice. Once you have successfully grown out your nails and left them alone, treat yourself to a manicure.
Avatar f tn awhh. i know the feeling.. i hide my nails around people. but not my boyfriend. his seen them to many times anyway lol i get anoyed when anyone tryed to stop me though.. i bite all around my nails, ive tryed liquid to make a horrible taste in ur mouth.. doesent work. i over come the taste >:D erm.. mustard.. and. gloves, but i end up taking them off.
Avatar f tn I have bitten my nails for almost 25 years, since I was 6. I recently got myself to stop and it's been a good 2 months now since I've bitten them at all and I can honestly say I can't remember the last time I've had the urge to bite them. I probably had a moderate problem (bit my nails where they were always halfway down the nail bed but def more than a sliver of nail left). All I did was paint my nails with a nail strengthening clear coat EVERYDAY.
Avatar n tn I am also a nail biter, age 47. Interestingly, when I was pregnant I stopped biting my nails. However, when I was no longer pregnant I began again. The nails come in stronger during pregnancy and I think hormones are involved in this somehow. I also find that if I cut out caffiene the biting can lessen a lot. Too bad I love coffee. I find that if I get a ragged edge on my nail, I am completely unable to combat biting and of course that just makes it worse.
Avatar f tn birty - I'm just going to say this bluntly. You won't be able to stop his biting if the only recourse is to suggest he might hug the child he bit. I can't imagine trying to run a nursery under those guidelines. The children would be running amuck and banging each other over the head with tonka trucks with no consequences. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn unrelated but similarly, tips to stop eating at the skin of my fingers around the nails would also be helpful, as the biting is a terrible nervous habit of my ocd that cant be good.
3114286 tn?1342470225 it would be the same bad habit as biting your nails.... or smoking... Nothing really can help unless you just stop doing it...
Avatar f tn I'm a high school kid who has experienced depression and is currently experiencing anxiety. You see, I used to have long, strong, thick nails. I was quite proud of them (mainly because they were my main self harm tools). But, due to anxiety, I started biting my nails down. Now, they don't even grow past the tip of my finger. I always keep them super short. I also bite off the skin around my nails, and try to tear away my cuticles.
Avatar n tn I could really use some specific advise on how to get my 9yr old son to stop biting his nails. His fingers looked terrible. He has no nails. His fingers look sore. He likes to bite his nails while watching a movie and off an on through out the day. He'll do it in the car. He'll do it when he is bored. I have painted the liquid on his hands in the past and that has not worked. I'm to the point of having him wear gloves in the house. I don't know what to do.
703579 tn?1228694819 Nail biting is a habit. Usually people do it to relieve anxiety. They also just do it because it's a habit and don't even realize they are doing it. Or out of boredom. I pop my knuckles. Have been since I was a kid. I like the way it feels. You sound stressed out and need some sort of release. You also sound pretty antsy. Put band aids on all your fingers. Might as well put band aids on your 7 year old. Kids get a kick out of that stuff. Sorry about your car.
Avatar f tn Idk what to do, is it because I used to be a nail biter? I used to have really small nails cause I used to bite them a lot, but stopped biting them 5 years ago! The pink part has grown a lot since last year but it is growing upwards! It is really annoying and I have already low self esteem and this makes things even worse! Please tell me what to do, I really need help!

Avatar f tn If one is ever even close to growing back to a normal length, I always seem to bite it back again. Also, the skin around my nails and fingertips is absolutely shredded. I push and tear off my cuticles, and tear the skin off of my fingertips. I've been doing it for so long that the fingerprints on my thumbs are nearly gone, with only pink, shiny callous left behind. My fingers are all scarred and bloody thanks to this new habit, and I still have three years to go in high school.
Avatar f tn I've bitten my fingernails my whole life since i was a little girl until they bleed and hurt and i pick at my skin as well. It's awful. Nail polish and stuff to paint on nails specifically to stop biting didn't help... Nothing helped until i started seeing a psychiatrist who prescribed me OCD drugs, but i was already well into my 20s so I'm not sure what a pediatrician can prescribe... But ask your doc about obsessive compulsive disorder.
Avatar f tn My son is 11 years, old and seems to have an issue with his hands and mouth. He has always put everything in his mouth to the point where teachers have mentioned it to me as a concern. I've struggled to stop him from biting is finger nails and toe nails, he eats his buggers and has an incredible appetite for unhealthy foods, i.e. anything with cheese, ice cream, fattening foods, candy. We are careful that we control his food intake so he's not unhealthy or overweight (about 85 lbs.
Avatar f tn I remember being in kindergarten and learning about how it was unsanitary to bite your nails and feeling ashamed. I also remember my mom putting bitter nail polish on my nails to try to keep me from biting them because I was biting them every day. I was doing it at the earliest point I can remember.
Avatar f tn My 3 year old daughter is capable of drinking from a sippy cup, drinks from cups, eats independently, goes to potty and is very very smart for her age. The only problem is, she still wants to be breast fed, I can see it is when she is tired mostly or just for comfort.
