Common Questions and Answers about How to prevent acne while on steroids

acne

Avatar f tn I don't believe they are typically related, however, alcoholism can severely throw your system out of alignment (as can withdrawal for a little while) - diet, sleep patterns, social activities - EVERYTHING is going through a change so, I'd try to consider what is causing the acne? Hormonal changes, oily skin, change of season, new skin lotions/creams, etc... and work in reverse order.

Avatar m tn First of all, I am a 60 year old man. For about a year now I have this nasty condition on my head from the top down the back and on the sides. It acts just like acne. I've always had acne and still do but never this condition. As I said, this particular condition just started about a year ago. I went to the doctor and he gave me antibiotics and that solved the problem. Unfortunately, one can't take antibiotics indefinately. This condition is painful and embarresing.

Avatar n tn male I have been getting my hair cuts close to the scalp for several years. Until now, I never had these red bumps on the back of my scalp where i get close haircuts. I go to a professional barber who uses clean equipment. These red bumps are not itchy and dont have any pus. The bumps look like acne with no pus. I wash my hair daily. I havent used any new products. Are these red bumps due to scalp folliculitis? What is it? Is there any treatment? I like to keep my hair short(military).
Avatar n tn Hi, welcome to the forum, the tiny spots on the skin other than acne, suggests atopic dermatitis which is seen due to allergic background and Contact dermatitis due to direct skin exposure to a substance which can be a allergen or irritant. Anti-histamines with appropriate steroids against prescription will help to alleviate the condition. Identify and avoid the triggering factor which you been exposed to recently. I suggest you to consult a dermatologist for further management.
Avatar f tn Hello, I have been diagnosed with Perioral Dermatitis, I was put on Tetracycline for a month and I'm currently on day 4. I know it's going to take a while to heal but since I have stopped using everything possible on my face it has become all dry, flaky and tight? Is this normal, does this mean it's healing? Should I now just leave it be and let it keep doing whatever it is it's doing?
Avatar n tn My son has been taking Oratane for over 3 months its was worse than when we had first started. His lips are dry, headaches and depression. If I could go back we would have asked just for a antibiotic instead, now that specialist has put him on that to and tried to put him on steroids as well.
Avatar n tn two days ago, I noticed some cold sores around my lower lip and mistakenly applied wart gel on it. It burned and later developed a dark looking spot around the area. what do I need to do to remedy this problem. Thank you.
Avatar m tn After two years - the steroids should be out of your system. However, you would not be the first person to have had problems after taking high doses. It can go a couple of ways - your adrenals could be a bit atrophied. Do you find that you are nauseous when you are sick, crave salt, have a tan, or have lost weight? Or it could have triggered a case of high cortisol.
Avatar f tn This caused the bacteria to spread and cause my eye symptoms. Will I ever be able to put this in remission since I took steroids for a week? I know it lowered my immune system's response, and now I'm scared I won't be able to recover. I've been treating for 6 months with rifampin and Cefdinir, herbals, vitamins and a diet change. I was sick for 5 months before being treated.

559187 tn?1330782856 I found out from the MS nurse that the rash I have all over my face, neck, and back is a side effect of my IV Solu-Medrol treatment and the taper dose of prednisone and is not a rash at all, but is acne. I thought the rash was from my sun exposure while in Mexico earlier this week and that the steroids were probably the culprit. So that was half right. But the nurse said it was acne yet it feels more like a rash to me.
1508709 tn?1289936565 Larger bumps of AKN present for a while or if not responding to treatments may need surgical removal. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar f tn Is there anyway to avoid/prevent the burning, itching rash that appears over vitiligo? Years ago my friend donated skin for research, and since that time there has been an intermittent unforgiving rash that eventually opens the skin in addition to the burning and itching, and requires Dr. visits, cream and at times antibiotics. Thank you.
Avatar m tn The second dermatologist has told me my skin is red and in order to prevent scarring, to apply the following in addition to the Differin at night: Morning: Clindamycin, then Hydrocortisone Cream 2.5% Night: Differin, then Hydrocortisone Cream 2.5% Continue with Doxycycline 100mg 2x day I've read various reviews on using hydrocortisone cream for the face with people stating it thins out your skin and worsens acne symptoms.

Avatar f tn So about a week ago I noticed that I had bumps on my chest that I just kind of dusted off as sweat bumps (they kind of look like goosebumps). Then one time I went to scratch my back & I noticed that I had bigger bumps on my back along with goosebumps looking bumps, they're a little itchy sometimes. I noticed the bigger bumps on my back about 2 days ago. My mom said I shouldn't worry about it.
