718651 tn?1237042917 niacin is a vitamin b complex, and it helps boost your cholesterol(hdl)i dont know if it will help with your situation.are you trying to pass a drug test or are you trying to lessen the withdrawals.
Avatar m tn The correct dose of niacin depends on what abnormality you and your doctor are trying to correct. To raise HDL and correct small LDL, a dose of 750-1000 mg a day usually provides full benefit. Increasing this dose to 1500 mg a day may provide slightly greater benefit. To reduce LDL or Lp(a), higher doses (from 1000 mg up to 4000-5000 mg per day) are often used, with higher doses providing greater effects. However, doses this high should be taken only with a physician’s supervision.
Avatar m tn I have just read the success of a medical investigative team using vitamin B3 (niacin) to treat general anxiety disorder instead of the now widely criticised ansiolotics especially diazepams like Xanax. My doctors have been dismissive of B3 even for redution of cholesterol. I haven't tried them yet on this new finding.
Avatar f tn How long will it take me to pass the drug test? Keep in mind that oxycodone and potentially hydrocodone are the only drugs in my system. Btw, the drug test isn't for anything serious like court or probation.. I'm thinking about applying for new jobs.
Avatar f tn So if you drink 2-3 gallons of water a day, you may be able to test clean after 10 days. I was a daily smoker for 27 years, and this worked for me a time or two.If you do this dont plan on being far away from a rest room....
Avatar n tn Background: I have engaged a Niacin regimen to cut cholesterol (vs. using statin drugs) because Niacin also raises HDL and cuts LPa and triglycerides (while statins only cut LDL). I have been on this regimen since 2003 and the effect on my cholesterol/triglycerides and LPa has been more than as hoped for. Just as with statin drugs, it is necessary to get regular blood tests (ideally every 6 months) to ensure there is no liver damage.
Avatar f tn Sounds like it is time for a more detailed workup. You need to have a Free T4 and Free T3 test done with the TSH. Hypothyroidism can affect many areas of the body. It might even be a good idea to ask to have the antibody testing done for Hashimoto's autoimmune thyroid disease. I have never heard of niacin affecting the body in a bad way especially pertaining to the liver and thyroid.
Avatar n tn depends on how many and how long you've been taking it.......lots of water exercise, metabolism are all factors........stays in the system for a few days......a good week and you should be fine......I hope. When is your test and how many and how long? Nauty............
Tbd What is the purpose of the niacin and should a niacin supplement be administered if the medication does not contain niacin?
Avatar m tn Hey, is it possible to collect the fumes using some fan and duct system and bubble it through water , thus allowing the fumes to dissolve in water and then send the water sample for drug test? What I would suspect is, if you do not take any drug yourselves, could some one else be drugging you with out your knowledge?, take care.
1495437 tn?1288798915 I woke up on the Diningroom floor with my parents screaming at me and crying. My father threw me in a bathtub with cold water, and was slapping my face trying to get me to breathe asking me what I took, I told him Niacin, and he called the ambulance. The ambulance came and transported me where they gave me an injection on Benedryl.. I was finally able to breathe. The next couple of days after that I started to develope these tiny reddish-brownish-pinkish spots all over my body.
Avatar n tn 1) In studies comparing equal doses of Crestor to Lipitor, Crestor has been shown to lower LDL levels ~10% and increase HDL levels 2-4% more than Lipitor. Your triglyerides, total cholesterol, and LDL's are in the optimal range, and your HDL level is in the middle. Based on these numbers, there doesn't seem to be a need to switch to Crestor. 2) There is little evidence on the use of EPA alone.
Avatar f tn m really not trying to be rude or anything I just want you to have the best chance at a positive outcome and I feel like sneaking a drug test is going to cause nothing but bad things. I know a lot of people who are clean and have been for years [myself included] who refuse drug tests. Not because I worry I won't pass, I know I always will. Just because of the stigma. It's embarrassing as a recovering addict to be asked to do that.
Avatar f tn Niacin in most people causes the face to flush/blush. No flush Niacin is readily available OTC. A word of caution, however, Niacin is a B3 and B3's are known to elevate blood sugars. Test your bs often and on a regular basis.

Avatar f tn Lactulose is a good thing to use and is also a good probiotic which was well explained by the Hepatitis Researcher (known as HR) who use to post here. You'd have to try and search the archives for it or you can go to HR's profile and read all his old posts. They are of great value to non-responders to current meds. They were like finding a bucket of cool water in a blistering hot desert for us and they made an enormous difference in my husband's condition.
Avatar m tn ive had them non-stop. i went to the er on friday and had an ECG and was on a heart monitor and they both caught them and they told me that it was in the diastolic(bottom part of my heart) that it was an extra beat before my regualr beat. they told me as well as my regular doctor they told me to relax and not worry. how can i not worry when your heart isnt suppose to do it. i just dont know what to do. i have them almost every minute sometimes several in a minute. how can that be normal.
Avatar f tn I have severe Gastroparesis and am on GJ feeding tubes. I was in pain management, but got kicked out because hydrocodone wasn't showing up in my system. I did a DNA test and I don't metabolize opioids and with all the liquids that run through my body with feeds, I feel like it dilutes my urine. Is there anyone that can help me document or verify this. I'm distraught.
Avatar f tn It has never been proven, but add pure lemon to your water. I know it sounds weird, it is hard to get used to but I can't live without it now. It is said to soften up the stones and help prevent them. Do you know what the stones are made of yet? If it is Calcium Oxalate (Which is what I suffer from) there really isn't anything to get them to move besides drinking lots of water, as my urologist states. Are they causing you any pain presently?
Avatar m tn I think your post is a tad confusing. With using shortened sentences and such it feels like parts of the story are missing. Why are you posting this in the substance abuse addiction section? Are you an addict? More info is needed to help you...
Avatar f tn How much Niacin were you taking daily? Was your physician aware you were going to take the Niacin to lower your cholesterol? Were you taking any other medications at the same time?
Avatar m tn Are you using a strainer to check and see when you pass a stone or stones? If you are not using a strainer, stones that small might pass and you'd never know it. Hopefully, you will pass all of those stones eventually without any real, major pain connected to their passing. You didn't say whether or not you've been having any pain or twinges of pain from any of those small stones. Are you having any pain?
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm fine. I did have the warmth and tingling sensation after 10 to 15 minutes of taking the supp but that was the only symptoms. I posted a pic of the rash but I think it wasn't approved yet, I'll probably be seeing a doctor in the coming weeks. But it would be nice to have an idea of what it might be and how to treat it, I live in a small town and the doctors don't know much about these things, so I might have to go to a specialist, but what kind?
Avatar f tn Dear all, I am a chronic Hepatitis B patient who have drug resistence to Lamivudine and Entecavir, and my Kidney is not good(Creatinine=3.7). Doctor said my only next choice of drug is to use Pegylated Interferon(Pegasys), so my questions are: 1. any other drugs that is suitable for me except Pegylated Interferon? 2. Are side effects of Pegylated Interferon quite serious and hard to handle if I have to use it? Many thanks for your advice and sharing! Mike.
463841 tn?1207438535 While niacin is not a drug I encounter often at the hospital, I know that many doctors have us withold this med, especially in patients with cardiovascular issues. Quite a few years ago, while I was browsing the shelves in a health food store, the clerk asked me what I was looking for. I told him I had severe panic disorder and he immediately recommended that I take large doses of niacin, as he said it's good for people with anxiety problems.
Avatar m tn On the advice of another, I inserted my finger to my anus and tried to break some pieces off, and was surprised to find that the stool had a hard, clay-like consistency. It has been 72 hours since my last successful bowel movement and 24 hours since my last attempted one. Does this mean I am constipated? How can I relieve this? If I just wait long enough will it pass on its own? If not, how can I soften it?
Avatar f tn I take niacin to calm my nerves. It works quite well. I did have a bit of a reaction the last time I took it. My face began to swell and I began to get the "Niacin Flush" I am used to the flush but have never had the face swelling that I have heard so much about. Since I am aware that this happens it did not scare me but I just wanted to let you know that it usually does not mean anything.
