Avatar f tn I know what it's like to go ponder on "what if's". I do the same with reptiles. The other day we had an Iberia-snail in the laundry machine and you should have seen me scream. It's just grose anyway. At my worst moments I could combine anything with my reptile phobia - zig-zag pattern, even an arm towards mine. I can on all basic means freak my self out. This summer I have dealt much better with it. I really stop myself on "iiiiiik, that's a snake!

Avatar f tn reading about it dont help it will just heighten your anxiety, the recorded deaths are tragic, but in comparrison to the success rate of themit do put it in to a prospective, just tell your fears to the person who is going to give you the needle ask any questions you need to ask and remember they cannot force you to have anything done that you dont wish to have done.
Avatar n tn It sounds very much like your grandson might be dealing with some ocd (obsessive-compulsive disorder). Fear of germs, and behaviors such as his, are pretty common in ocd. The way to deal with it isn't going to be by forcing him to hug or touch anything, but by figuring out what the fear is and confronting that fear. The rest will fall in line once the anxiety at the root of this is dealt with.
Avatar f tn That is thoughts of being homosexual has nothing to do with treating it like OCD in general. If you were having thoughts of germs, fear of throwing things away and hoarding, had to count to 3 7 times before you could leave your bedroom . . . it's all ocd and all is treated. You can tell your parents you have anxiety. And you would like to speak to someone about it. OR tell your doctor at your next annual physical if your parents won't get you set up before then.
Avatar f tn Now on to your question of how to overcome the fear of having people around your newborn. For me it naturally lessened as she got older. I kept her home from Christmas since she was only a month old and some people didn't understand, but two of her cousins showed up with bad colds so I knew my fear had been justified! Eventually as she got older I took her more places. Use your mother's instinct to your advantage and ask lots of questions to your pediatrician.
Avatar f tn Have you tried focused slow breathing, walking, aromatherapy, acupuncture, massage, redirect by doing something? Also...low Vitamin D3 and magnesium can contribute to anxiety and depression.
Avatar f tn To overcome anxiety, one must understand the logic of why the brain is feeling threatened, it sends messages to the body saying its under threat. New pathways need to be created to overcome the old programming. So for example, if you panic over a fear of flying, you must start flying and let the brain realise that its all okay, and reprogram the thoughts. However, the fear of dying can't really be practiced. Some buddhists meditate in a morgue as it is the closest we can get to dying.

Avatar n tn I have developed a fear of heights that has interfered with my ability to enjoy my favorite winter sport...snow skiing. The anxiety produced when confronted with height creates what is near panic. The fear only exhibits itself primarily on the ground and outside.. Avatar f tn Hello, along with my staring OCD I am germaphobic also, I try very hard not to use public transportation because of it but when I have to I wash my hands clothes and shoes with pine and bleach along with washing my hands repeatedly I won't eat or touch anything for hours until I talk myself into it. Washing and sanitizing makes me happy and calm. But in your case with touching your mouth, I would freak out also, that would be major for me.
