Avatar f tn fruit juices [fructose aka fruit sugar] also can cause blood sugar to rise [so serving sizes and moderation are important]. With fruit it’s important to eat them with other foods to slow the absorption of fructose. I'm NOT saying that these foods aren't allowed. What I AM saying is that you need to use care and follow the guidelines for diabetics – avoid sugar, avoid bad carbs, avoid sugary liquids, eat proper foods.
Avatar f tn I am a type II diabetic and I would like to know what is considered a "good" blood sugar reading for me when I test at different times of the day....before meals, after meals, fasting in the morning, at bedtime and other random times during the day.
Avatar m tn Please do not put off calling your doc today. I looked up Amaryl (glimepiride) and it is used by type 2 diabetics to lower glucose levels. There's a discussion going on in this forum about type 2, after long periods of time (how long is unk), reversing into type 1 diabetics. In your case it seems you are combating low glucose levels and may have a flipped 180º. Let us know what your docs says. You will help a lot of readers by posting your history if you did turn into a type 1.
Avatar n tn However at this range it is also better to start with medications for diabetes to bring down the blood sugar levels. Please consult an endocrinologist for the same. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar m tn Using the eAG [estimated Average Glucose] formula to convert the A1c to an daily glucose average equates to 148.46 mg/dl, well into diabetes land. And, having postprandial [after meal 2-3 hrs] readings over 400 mg/dl is dangerous.
Avatar n tn t fix the root problem, and if she has glucose levels this high, she absolutely needs to see a doctor, have real lab tests done, and get some medications to lower her glucose levels. Herbal remedies help the body try to help itself, but medicines are sometimes absolutely necessary. She could kill herself this way if she doesn't get help. Or cause irreparable complications such as kidney damage or blindness.
Avatar f tn salad, grilled fajita chicken, small amounts of cheese and sour cream, 3 oz guacamole, 2 chicken flautas. Took my blood sugar and it was 67. What does this mean?
Avatar n tn It may take that long for his glucose levels to rise to normal and for him to feel OK. Do get him to a doctor to see if you can find out why he is having the seizures. Very low glucose can cause seizures, but the levels must be much lower than in the 70's for this to happen. So all possible causes should be checked out.
Avatar f tn It is improper to test randomly as it does not provide a clear insight on how your body handles excess sugar. Part of your annual health exam should include testing for diabetes. Go see your doctor for one.
798555 tn?1292787551 s tough to use herbs when you have diabetes anyway -- especially Type !. Because you have to monitor your blood sugar, using herbs that lower blood sugar require a lot of monitoring, and if people don't do it they can go too low. As for you, Gym is right, diet is by far the most important factor. It and exercise will determine if you go diabetic or not, not the thyroid. Personally, because you have the Hashimotos, I'd consult a naturopath and a physician who is open to herbs.
Avatar n tn "I tested my blood sugar this morning and it was 105." Was this fasting, nothing to eat or drinking of colored liquids for 8-10 hours? Makes a huge difference. Random/anytime testing is useless as it only provides a false/positive.
Avatar m tn My doctor just started me on Tricor and my blood sugar levels have gone up as well. Prior to being on Tricor, my fasting blood sugar has always been between 89 and 101. Now they range from 119 to 125. Any thoughts on alternative medications to lower high tryglicerides?

Avatar f tn t explain things to you such as how the prednisone influences the blood sugar and what you should be doing to treatyour diabetes, you may need to see an endo. Also, if you want, send me a private message and I will give you the name of a couple websites where there are a lot of diabetics and I'm sure someone will be able to explain the role of prednisone.
Avatar n tn By eating at night you may be able to help your morning blood sugar be a bit lower. When you have extended fasting your liver can put out glucose. By eating a small snack you may be able to prevent your liver doing this. hope this helps. Please come back and let us know how you're going. Avatar n tn Drug-induced hypoglycemia is seen with the inadvertent or intentional overdose of insulin or oral medications used to lower blood glucose. Blood glucose-lowering pills and insulin are medications used to lower the abnormally high blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. Examples of blood glucose-lowering pills are glyburide (Micronase, Diabeta, and Glynase) and glipizide (Glucotrol).
Avatar n tn Strenuous exercise can lower glucose levels for up to 2 days after the exercise, from what I have been told. Your body was probably using those carbs as fast as they were digesting after the treadmill workout. I notice that if my glucose levels are dropping quickly, I feel horrid, even before they reach the "abnormally low" numbers. Maybe you were just feeling the drop since it was happening quickly.
Avatar f tn I guess this will happen unless I can bring down my blood sugar level within the next month - (Is this possible to do such a thing)? This is all new to me and I am trying to educate myself. I am a cigarette smoker as well and I believe this is the first problem I should work on, but I'm not sure where to start. I would welcome any advise offered.
Avatar f tn So because I threw up during the 3hr glucose test, I have to check my blood sugar levels at home for a week. So just curious what is the normal range? I have to check it when I wake up and 1-2 hrs after every meal.
