Avatar n tn I have no idea, but I would be VERY careful where you get them from. In the UK, the national health service found they had many fakes in stock and when analysed they contained high samples of heavy metals such as lead.
Avatar n tn so close to being able to go nuts or free...but which is which.
Avatar m tn So, depending on how long she will have to take the plavix for, and what she is taking it for, it may actually be less expensive to use the plavix.
Avatar m tn If you do not want to suffer a heart attack or stroke, you need to take the Plavix and aspirin. Lipitor is a cholesterol medication that have proven studies showing reducing cholesterol and reducing some cholesterol buildup already there. The medications are your life line and you need to take them as prescribed by your doctor. Are you having current side effects from the medications?
Avatar f tn My question is could going off Plavix possibly cause a TIA and how long does it take to get the level of Plavix back where it should be once you start taking it?
Avatar f tn they want me to switch from amiodarone to multaq but I have gotten contradicting information on how to do so from my current EP and the other one I had and my cardiologist is telling me something different about how to safely switch from amiodarone to multaq so I am very confused and I am interested to see what anyone would have to say to what I have written and maybe can give me some insight on this subject.. Thank you.
Avatar n tn I just received a drug eluting stent last month and having a hard time adjusting to all the meds. I was on Plavix and was told I would be on that for 1 year. I ended up being allergic to the Plavix and the dr. switched me to Ticlid. Which I will be on for 1 year, so they say. And aspirin too. Is it true that you can still have chest pains with this type of stent?
Avatar f tn We were told that he needs bypass surgery and it has been scheduled for March 11. The doctor said he needs to stop plavix 7 days before. I'm worried because he just will have had the stent put in at just over 3 weeks.
Avatar m tn I have elected to have some minor cosmetic surgery (liposuction) around the waist to help assist me in m weight loss. I know I have to come off Plavix 10 days prior and about 5 days after. Really wondering what damage could be done in 15 days of coming off Plavix if any? All my stents were drug eluding stents.
Avatar f tn In addition to calling her doctor she might want to speak with her pharmacist - they usually offer free consultations for their customers and they could go over all of your Mom's medications with her, looking for possible problems that might cause headaches and elevated BP.
Avatar f tn I am a 76-year-old female with AFib for the past three years. The last of Jan. I was hospitalized for AFib with a high heart rate that wouldn't stabilize. Feb. 13th I had a major heart attack and SCD. Was sent to the heart hospital where two stents, one bare metal and one drug eluding, were implanted in the LAD. Five days later a pacemaker/defibrillator was implanted.

Avatar n tn Prior to that I had virtually no symptoms, and no risk factors except for stress, and the cause of the heart attack was a mystery to everyone. I stayed on plavix for 6 months (along with low-dose aspirin which I continue to take) and couldn't stand the side effect of severe bruising. My recovery was slow in that I continued to experience lots of chest pain with stress, and was eventually diagnosed with GERD, which I believe was caused either by the stents or the plavix.
Avatar m tn Did you have a heart attack in 07 or how did you happen to get on 2 plavix a day? Did your doctor determine that you risk was so high that he wanted you on Plavix long term, these are the only circumstances that using Plavix long term would be.

Avatar m tn My cardiologist is opposed to discontinuation of platelet therapy for a short time in order to have a proceddure. I want to know why it is recommended to remain on plavix for a minimum of 12 months after the stent? Does the risk of thormbosis decrease so significantly at 12 months that it is worth the risk of another Major Cardiac Event? Is there any information to support an argument that 6 months is a significant amount of time?
Avatar n tn I have eight stents, I believe 4 coated, 4 non-coated. Some are Boston Scientific. I've had virtually no serious problems with resenosis of stents. I took Plavix and 81mg aspirin for a year after my last coated stent. Sometimes, in arteries that are small, I believe coated stents are more difficult to fit in place. In my opinion, an angiogram is a very safe way to get a very good look at the condition of the heart arteries. Proceed with confidence, and keep us informed.

Avatar m tn I also wonder about the need for procedures like colonoscopy or other such procedures where the Plavix may cause a concern. Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn I was on plavix for 18 months for my first stent and it never formed clots, but I believe there have been cases where it has happened. IF clots are going to form, they are usually very quickly as the plavix wears off. You don't have to ween off plavix, you simply stop it. It isn't a medication that affects your metabolism or mental state. Is it your general Doctor or Cardiologist who has stopped the medication? In the UK we are told we will be on Plavix 2-3 years or even possibly life.
Avatar n tn My cardiologist would not let my dentist allow me to stop taking Plavix for even 5 days to alleviate my pain due to a cavity .The dentist is bent upon my discontinuing Plavix to enable filling of the cavity or do root canal to solve the problem.
