979425 tn?1251403163 Red Bull contains taurine which in combination with caffeine has caused some fatalities. So in interactions with psychiatric medications it can be a bad idea. Before recovery, I took taurine by itself as a "supplement" and it speeded me up to the point where I was psychotic and I would never take it again so the whole thing is best avoided.
Avatar f tn Niacin is essential to a healthy diet but too much can cause you to turn bright red, hot and itchy. It's usually found in such low doses in foods, that it won't happen unless you take niacin tablets directly, and too many of them.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm fine. I did have the warmth and tingling sensation after 10 to 15 minutes of taking the supp but that was the only symptoms. I posted a pic of the rash but I think it wasn't approved yet, I'll probably be seeing a doctor in the coming weeks. But it would be nice to have an idea of what it might be and how to treat it, I live in a small town and the doctors don't know much about these things, so I might have to go to a specialist, but what kind?

Avatar m tn You could also ask about fibrates of fenofibrates which work in your intestines to help control the absorption of cholesterol. Niacin does not really do much to lower cholesterol. It increases HDL which is used to remove LDL from your system, however recent studies have found that HDL created by niacin use is not as effective as naturally occurring HDL particles. Can you tell me what your lipid profile is? Perhaps I can point you in the right direction with more information.

Avatar f tn But my best lipid results ( raising HDL, lowering LDL and Lp(a) ) came from taking RX Niacin which I take with the 10 mg Crestor and 325 mg aspirin at bedtime. No problems with Niacin either.I take RX fish oil also as I am in big time prevention mode due to cardiac microvascular dysfunction.Fortunately my lipids have never been bad and my larger coronaries are clear but the lipids are only a piece of the total cardiac picture and the possible side effects of meds far outweigh my other risks.
1202943 tn?1347840652 I had 3 more episodes of flushing that were WAY less severe In the following days. It always happens and hour or two after eating and I can feel my body heating up. Then I get the splotchy neck . I do take a Super B complex vitamin all most everyday. Maybe I am getting enough in my diet already and should quit taking this. On two of the days it happened I had steamed asparagus and Brocolli, which are maybe high in B3. The other day I had a salad with greens and a bunch of vegi's.

Avatar n tn Hives (medically known as urticaria) are red, itchy, raised areas of skin that appear in varying shapes and sizes. They have a tendency to change size rapidly and to move around, disappearing in one place and reappearing in other places, often in a matter of hours. Many cases of hives are "idiopathic," meaning no cause is known. Others may be triggered by viral infections or medications. But you can’t blame niacin as it was discontinued long back.
Avatar m tn Niacin can do wonders on the LDL especially when there may be a corkscrew like protein attached to it and no amount of statin, diet or lifestyle change will impact the LDL but Niacin will. It is referred to as LPa and can be done in some advanced lipid testing. That alone may change and further define what you need to be on. Also, did you take the statin at night and to reduce the side effects of it, take a smaller daily dose of CQ10 with it at night?
401095 tn?1351391770 Yall...I made it out the door and got to work on time...I bought a red bull last night and drank it when i got up...dont like them but it sure perked me up! I think I am getting better with this cold too...a moderate energy day....but I do have energy!
Avatar m tn A question...Is your son drinking energy drinks or taking vitamins/supplements with niacin In them? If so, this could be a "niacin flush" -harmless, but annoying. If not, there is something else causing a histamine release (could be anything from an allergic reaction to a kidney problem) and, if he hasn't, he needs to have it checked out.
Avatar m tn ve been the urethra, that occured after drinking a bad Red Bull and had been going on for 2 weeks but has gone away now. Dunno if these two are related somehow. What could it be? I believe the pancreas, liver and gallbladder is in the area where the pain is.
Avatar n tn Niacin is a B vitamin and is used in reducing cholesterol. A common side effect of Niacin is flushing. The flushing makes your skin red in color and sometimes warm to the touch. Sometimes, taking an aspirin before taking the niacin can prevent the flushing. Don't do this without discussing it with your doctor. Drinking hot drinks or alcohol can also increase the flushing, so it is best to avoid these when taking the niacin. Also, niacin should not be taken with certain drugs.
Avatar f tn ve been taking 250 mg of Niacin. Based on the previous TSH told me to decrease to 150. The last dosage said to decrease to 125 mcg. Is this weird?
1135275 tn?1586565652 Two glasses of red wine a day increases cancer risk. In this light, I’d recommend having a glass of red wine no more than 2 or 3 times per week. Wine and other alcoholic beverages also cause triglyceride counts to climb. Oatmeal, oat bran, and other whole grain products can help with a small reduction, about 5 percent, in total cholesterol. I like Krill oil Just look that it has total Phospholipids 420, total MG per serving 300, at least 160 mg EPA and 90 mg DHA and 1 1/2 mg of Astaxanthin.
Avatar n tn 00 PM) Because of Liver enzyme levels and cholesterol that was reduced too much, I have cut my niacin regimen to the following in 12/2007 but have not yet taken another blood test to gauge the effects: 500 mg of SR [sustained-release] niacin at 8:00 AM; 500 mg of IR niacin at 4:00 PM; and, 250 mg of SR niacin in the evening (11:00 PM) (So, I additionally cut 250 mg of SR niacin in the evening.
