I recently developed a urethritis and my doctor treated it with zithromax. How long should the burning and discharge last? Also, I am currently with a woman in a long term relationship. I haven't been screwing around. She says I may have picked up from her. She recently had a vaginal infection. She says she got it from a poorly maintained hot tub. Is this possible? Can a guy get a urethritis from a dirty hot tub?

Yes, Trimethoprim/sulfa is a common drug for UTIs. I'll try not to get too technical, but Zithromax is prescribed a lot of times for "upper respiratory infections." Generally (although there are exceptions of course), the bacteria that cause things like sinus infections/pneumonia are not the same as those that cause UTIs.

In December I tested positive for chlamydia. I was treated with 1g zithromax and my symptoms passes and i felt fine until I was with my boyfriend again. I did not know he took the medication wrong, he split them into 2 doses on 2 days rather than all at once. So we both retook zithromax and waited the 7 days. Those with CF have been prescribed long term antibiotic therapy with Zithromax for some time now, that is how I came to being put on it...not for my asthmatic problems. I agree with you, it has done wonders as far as needing less bursts of steroids etc...and having fewer exacerbations. So after some research I figured out that the treatement for syphilis is 2g of zithromax... I initially found that very odd and feel that this may cause me to overdose!! Not to mention that I have gilbert's syndrome and my total blood bilirubin level are usually around 2.0... Overall, my question is, how harmful will 2g of zithromax at once be?? How long was her/ his road of illness and how many months of treatment? I think that is very uplifting to her with the right dr one can be cured. I hope we start seeing that in more posts on this forum.

If you were not tested for gonorrhea, testing is a good idea. Given your exposures however, I would emphasize the need to have your throat tested at the time of testing. I hope this information is helpful. I look forward to hearing more from you about what sorts of test specimens were collected.

BTS is right, Zithromax is safe. I had to take it for Skin infections (called a Zpack but same thing) it works fine.

For a recent burning sensation in the urethra no discharge, a single 2gm dose is Zithromax is taken. The burning sensation still exist after 1 day of taking the dose. After how long this burning sensation usually disappears following a single 2gm dose of Zithromax? Should ibuprofen be considered as well? Should any other medication be considered?

I got tested the Monday (they also treated on the stop just in case so can’t retest) after hearing about and all my tests came back negative. My questions is thst is it possible for me to pass something on (Gonorrhea?) and still test negative because it was only 3-4 days after I could have been exposed?

This could be a result of the chlamydia, but it may be worth a call to your doctor. How are you taking the zithromax? You should have taken 1000 mgs at one time for it to be effective.
