How long for paxil cr to work

Common Questions and Answers about How long for paxil cr to work

paxil

Avatar n tn I have been taking 37.5 mg/day of Paxil CR for several years and because my panic attacks were interfering with my ability to work, my medical doctor and psychologist suggested that I switch to 50 mg/day of Zoloft. I am now on day 5 of Zoloft and can NOT stop crying. I'm also dizzy and nauseaous. I feel like I'm losing my mind and want to know if this is "normal" during transitioning from one SSRI to another and if so, WHEN WILL THIS END?
Avatar m tn Over the past 5 months I have come off of paxil, switched to Lexapro, switched back to Paxil CR upping my dose (50mg) to see if that would work. Clonazepam was increased to 1mg at night and .25mg in the morning and afternoon. Still the anxiety came... About 2-3 months ago my psychiatrist started me on Remeron which almost helped immediately. After a month I started to come down on the medication I had went up in. Currently I am on Remeron (30mg), Paxil CR (12.5mg) and Clonazepam (.
Avatar n tn Hello, I am - with the help of my doctors - weening myself off of paxil cr. I was at 25 ml for 7 years, but about 2 months ago started to ween off. Is this a long process? I'm went down to 12.5 every other day for about 3 weeks then to once a week. Well this is the 3rd week and i'm starting to feel anxious again. dry month, hot flashes in the morning. Lightheaded. Whats up with this? How long should a normal cycle of weening of this dosage take? Some one said maybe a year.
Avatar m tn I am 3 weeks back on Paxil after a failed attempt to switch medications to Lexapro. I have read a lot that Paxil loses its effectiveness after the first time. I (stupidly) have started, stopped & restarted Paxil on several different occasions and it always has seemed to work. I was on paxil 20mg originally then stopped cold turkey and went back on at Paxil CR 12.5. Upped dose over time to Paxil CR 25mg.
Avatar m tn work well for many. Paxil may be the better choice if anxiety is primary symptom. Hope you will give it a chance: takes 4-6 weeks in some cases to work. Different systems: different metabolisms. The Ambien prescribed is (I'm guessing now) the brand name version? It would be more expensive. But, listen, be grateful you have insurance and it will pay for most of it.
Avatar f tn My doctor is basically leaving it up to me as to what I want to take for my anxiety. I need help as to the best anxiety medicine to take that won't make my symtoms worse. Can you give me some suggestions?
Avatar n tn I took zoloft first but gave me gastro problems so doc wanted me to switch. Zoloft seems to work very similar to paxil at least it did for me.
467977 tn?1262714747 Has the nervousness decreased ANY since you began? If it hasn't, I would talk to my doctor, but Paxil can take a fairly long time to reach it's therapeutic level, so I'd give it a while longer. Don't know about switching to the CR. That's something you need to discuss with your doc. I'd sure wait until you see how you do on the regular stuff first. Hang in there a little bit longer g/f................
Avatar f tn Hi Hi I appreciate your reply. I have had talk therapy for 26 years and am still having it but mine seems to be a genetic predisposition chemical imbalance. And no therapy, even though it is nice to talk to someone, has ever worked. Went through behavior modification, relaxation and breathing techniques to name a few and nothing has ever worked for me.
Avatar m tn I am starting week #5 of paxil cr (week 1 = paxil cr 12.5, week 2 = paxil cr 25, week 3- current = paxil 37.5) Everywhere I read its just "keep waiting it out. It will get better." My doc wants me to raise to paxil cr 50mg on Monday if I don't start feeling any better. That is double the old dose I was at that worked for so long! It just scares me to keep going up. I recently tried Lexapro and it was a disaster. I just need some positive feedback.
Avatar f tn Falls, there's a generic Paxil. I'm not sure about Paxil CR. I'm not sure if you're near a Wal-Mart, but chances you are. But the generic Paxil is called Poroxatine, and a 90 day supply at Wal-Mart is either $10 or $30, CHECK IT OUT! Best.
Avatar n tn the anxiety you feel may not be from withdrawals but from the underlying anxiety breaking through because the prozac has not yet started to work. You might ask your doctor to cover you in the interim , for a week or so, with low doses of daily klonopin...then see in about two weeks how the prozac works alone...
Avatar n tn thanks to you for your insight. I ended up switching from Paxil CR 25 to Paxil 20 (gneric),which surprisingly my insurance pays for. I made the switch today with no adverse things happening, although I know it could be delayed. The goal at this point is to taper off the paxil 20, then get onto prozac. Although maybe I will just stay on the paxil if it keeps going well. The Paxil Cr has been great for me, but inusrance doesn't pay any of it, not even for generic.
Avatar f tn I have to disagree with your Dr. I know many people, including myself, that gained weight on Paxil. Prozac and Paxil are both antidepressants but they are different. I think you're most likely going through some withdrawal from the Paxil. You could also be having start up side effects from the Prozac. If we do get start up side effects it can be hard to say how long they'll last. I'm not sure what advice I can give you as far as what med to take.

1512520 tn?1290258130 I was on on Wellbutrin XL 300mg for 2 years, it worked well for the most part, did not gain any weight but it was ineffective for my anxiety and was not working as much for depression near the end. I started Paxil CR 12.5 mg for 6 months (second time I m trying Paxil), I felt great but 25 lbs crept on and it has made me severely depressed. I am now off Paxil for 1.5 months and my anxiety is coming back, and havent lost any of the weight either.
Avatar m tn Over the course of the last 3 months I have went from Paxil CR 25 to Lexapro (which didn't work) back to Paxil CR 25. Paxil has always worked for me. I have noticed an increase in anxiety over the last few months which led me to look into changing medications fearing "poop out" had set in with Paxil CR. I was on Paxil CR 25mg and now it looks like once I get the last bit of Lexapro 5mg out of my system I will probably be bumped up to Paxil CR 37.5.
Avatar f tn It can be very effective, but for some reason paxil is stronger than other meds and very hard to stop taking and can make it hard for anything else to work if you have to quit. So again, save this one for last is my opinion.
Avatar m tn I would suggest taking it at a different time. For one thing, it's not so good to go to bed right after eating, so snacking at bedtime isn't a great idea. You can also divide the dose -- that's what I had to do on Paxil because it was so sedating. Never had nausea from it, but you should know that these meds use the same pathway into the brain as magnesium and so can leach magnesium out of your body. That might be the problem, might not.
Avatar m tn and then 12mg every 2nd day and then 7.5mg . paxil CR just comes in 25,12.5 and 7.5 mg. please advise if this is the right way and how to overcome side effects and what other medication need to take. how long these withdrawl side effects persist?
Avatar m tn The Zoloft dose seems to be pretty close to the Paxil dose, although due to all of these meds varying in mechanism of action, it is impossible to find a perfect dose to start at with the new med....for each individual person. I think breaking up the Zoloft dose like he did will be helpful to you as well. There is no way we would be able to tell you what dose your doctor will Rx you, that is something you need to discuss with him.
Avatar f tn who has been on Paxil and how did it do for you? Did it really help with anxiety and panic attacks - what about side effects?
Avatar n tn I was prescribed Paxil CR, 12.5mg for anxiety. I have been on it for about 3 months and week. It helped somewhat but there are days when I don't feel like myself. I would rather make some lifestyle changes to combat my anxiety. So, my doctor told me to stop taking it. I was afraid because of the horror stories that I've heard. So, he gave me a prescription for the regular Paxil; take 2 10mg for the first 3 days and then 1 pill a day for two days. I have the prescription...
Avatar m tn After a failed attempt to fix my anxiety and subsequent depression that has come from it over the last 14 weeks with Lexapro and Paxil, my psych is switching me too Remeron (Mirtazapine) 30mgs. I started my first dose last night and already started my taper down of Paxil CR 50mg to Paxil CR 37.5 and hold there for a week. I also take Clonazepam 1mg at night to help me sleep due to the paxil. And I take Clonazepam .25mg dissolvable tablets during the day as needed for anxiety.
Avatar n tn I was suffering from Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia. I was on 25mg of Paxil CR for 2 years and my dose was lowered a few months ago to 12.5mg a day. I have started to have some panic attacks... few and far between, but I got so used to not having any attacks and living a more normal life. I really don't want to go back up to 25mg of Paxil - I gained 40 pounds in less than 6 months and have gained a total of 55 pounds now.
Avatar m tn Since the Lexapro didn't work for you, it could be like starting over, and you need to give the Paxil more time to build up in your system (4-6 weeks). It could be your body adjusting to the switch. I think it's both, along with all the switching around of medications. Within a few weeks you should start to feel better. If you are ever really concerned about anything with your medication, call your doctor.
Avatar m tn After the first soe of medication i have a panic attact right away, afre all week of suffering i came back to my old doctor who described teh paxil in the begging . He changed the Paxil to CR 12.5 and gave me Xanax, The hell just started, I was not able to function, between morning panic attacts and vomiting i was not able to work (almost lost my job). After two weeks of suffering i went to hospital they run all regular tests and confirmed that there is nothing wrong with me.
