How long for antibiotics to relieve ear infection

Common Questions and Answers about How long for antibiotics to relieve ear infection

antibiotics

Avatar n tn In cases where symptoms persist or seem to grow worse, a doctor may decide to prescribe antibiotics for an ear infection. Antibiotics are prescribed with care, however, as each course of antibiotics makes the patient more prone to serious ear infections in the future. In patients under six months of age, antibiotics will be prescribed in all patients with signs of an ear infection, whether or not the infection is confirmed.
Avatar f tn Thank you both for replying to my post. I could not longer handle the pain so just decided to go to a hospital in Mexico..I have no insurance therefore saw no other way to get this looked at. I just got home, the nurse gave me two shots one in each butt cheek. The doctor told me that I have a severe ear infection that is moving on to my throat..
Avatar f tn Usually I’m very patient however I am in excruciating pain every time I urinate due to the infection spreading to my vulva area. The pain is so bad that I wait for my bladder to fill until I cannot take it anymore and I get depressed when I realize I must go to the restroom. I am almost in tears when I “relieve” myself. I just bought origel to put down there, which I’m not sure is not safe. When I used it, it was painful but bearable. How long before I start to see improvement?
Avatar n tn It varies. I can't say for sure how long. It can happen quite rapidly or it can take years to develop. It depends on how aggressive the infection is and what path it takes. Unfortunately, it usually takes the path of least resistance so it can spread quite rapidly once it goes through the jaw bone. It can potentially not develop this pus pocket and go straight into the sinus/head or it can travel down the neck depending on the tooth.
Avatar f tn if there is an ear ache ther is usually an ear infection. Get the Doc to give you some antibiotics.
Avatar m tn Ive had an ear infection for 4 weeks now. 3 Weeks ago I went to the doctors and she wouldn't give me anything for it. Been really painful this weekend and felt sick and a bit dizzy because of it. What should I do? How long can I expect to have it with not taking anything for it?
Avatar f tn I agree, if it's an ear infection it's going to get sooo painful, best to get some medicine to get it taken care of!
Avatar f tn This child broke his arm and the was I found out was he calmly told me his arm no longer works. How long do you let an ear infection go before you move to oral antibiotics? Do a lot of your kids have ear infections from reflux? Gary had one a few weeks ago that he didn't tell me about and he got a small hole in his ear drum.
Avatar f tn I was taking cephalexin for a really bad throat and ear infection I had two weeks ago.
Avatar f tn Another awful Lyme symptom! :( And it doesn't matter how many more "unexplainable" symptoms you came up with, they will still insist it is not Lyme! My mother told me a story of her lifelong friend. She was struggling with fatigue and achiness and anxiety and doctors put her on anti-anxiety meds for years. She finally stopped talking with doctors about how crummy she felt as she never got any answers.
Avatar f tn I took them as directed but after the 5 days I still had ear pain, it was no where near as bad but still prevalent, I spoke with a doctor and she prescribed me 5 days of erythromycin and said it can sometimes take 10 days to clear. I took these antibiotics as directed for the 5 days and after the 5 days were up I still had pain in my ear but it was just mild.
Avatar m tn Antibiotics just start to work after 24 - 48 hours, so give it more time. However if you had the infection for a while, you may need to be on the antibiotics longer than usual to get rid of the infection (sometimes up to 3 weeks). If it doesn't go away, see an ENT MD. Besides checking the chemistry panel (labs), did you MD also check for things related to your liver and kidneys as well as your thyroid?
648987 tn?1231201877 Can someone please tell me what works for inner ear infection on a Sunday. I have had this once before, but NEVER had it this bad, the nausea and dizziness are never ending. Okay, it has only been 4 hours, just feels like more. Can't remember what the doc gave me when I had it a couple years ago. Does a decongestant work?
Avatar n tn Ouch! From your symptoms (sinus pain and low-grade fever) I would have assumed that you have a moderate sinus/ear infection. Maybe you do, but your doctors are just too hesitant to prescribe antibiotics. I had similar symptoms a few weeks ago (1 degree fever, sinus headaches, always feeling warm, tired, previous sore throat, only slight sinus drip) and they prescribed antibiotics and it went away eventually.
Avatar f tn Was your wife told that she was allergic to the antibiotics or is she drug-resistant? There is a huge difference. Pseudomonas is typically a very hard bacteria to kill and becomes drug resistant when antibiotics are used very often. My daughter had pseudomonas several months ago and had to have her ear swabbed and cultured. The pseudomonas was resistant to all the drug classses but the newest cyclosporin. She has had chronic ear infections since she was a baby (she's 13).

290867 tn?1333569278 The last time he got an infection the pediatrician was going to put him on some MORE antibiotics and when my co-worker went to the ENT he told her not to (because antibiotics cause too much harm and it doesn't necessarily work) well he gave his baby some allergy medicine like Claritin to dry out his ears and nose (the constant post nasal drip sometimes causes this) and he's been fine ever since.
1949068 tn?1449628519 Hello, I have been having an low grade fever for a month or month and an half as of today? I just finished up my antibiotics (Augmentin XR) today also. Still have an low grade fever that goes from 99.0-99.9 & symptoms also include: sore/stiff neck, very sore throat (off & on), hoarseness (off &on), serve headache, drainage into my throat, serve facial pain, sinus pressure, body aches and ear aches. I was diagnosed with an ear & sinus infection.
Avatar f tn Some months ago, I came down with what seemed like a combined ear (both ears), sinus, throat sort of infection. I tried to deal with it for about a month, at which point I got a UTI, which I immediately sought medical help for and was given antibiotics (Cephalexin); and both the UTI and ear, sinus, throat problems went away completely. But symptoms for my ears, sinus and throat returned less than a month later, and it was 3 weeks before I was able to see a Doc.
1937918 tn?1323659449 i have had swimmer's ear on and off for yrs. i have found ways to keep myself from getting water in my ears when i shower and i never duck my head under water so i am not as prone to swimmer's ear as i was when i was a teenager. but i still have terrible ear infections (usually around this time of yr bc of my sinuses) and there are those occasional times when i'm washing my hair or out in the rain and the water does get inside, no matter how careful i am.
1621608 tn?1339519872 one more thing to ask that may be maggots ate his ear drum or his ruptured ear drum then there any problem to put your suggested Ear medications are: Baytril Otic, twice daily in ear; Otomax, twice daily in ear; or Mometamax once daily?
7781741 tn?1394137708 ve cleaned her ears out with cotton balls every day since I discovered the infection and it seems to be getting better, just not quickly. All that is coming out is ear wax, too... So I'm wondering if it wasn't caused by a buildup of wax? I wish she were easier to keep still. I'd try ear candling. That'd be asking for an accident, though. My next plan is to try some lymphatic drainage... IF I can find a diagram of the lymphatic system in canines...
Avatar n tn Hi there, yes it could be the ears nose and throat is the place to go, I had it start when I was 22 after visiting a brand new golf course, I was allergic to the stuff used on the grass, had a severe allergic reaction but never took anything to relieve it as we were headed to the snow and everything was shut.
