Common Questions and Answers about How long does trigeminal neuralgia last

trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar f tn A good idea is to keep a pain journal -- where does the pain happen, how long does it last, when does it happen, does anything seem to trigger it (i.e. - brushing your teeth, eating, putting on makeup, washing your face), what does the pain feel like (electric shocks, jabs, burning, etc). This will help your doctor diagnose the problem.
Avatar m tn I just had a nerve block procedure done for my trigeminal neuralgia pain in my face. My face was sore but after 3 days, the pain in my face became more painful and I felt more electrical current shooting onto my lower teeth area. Why does it seem like my facial pain just got worse after this procedure.
Avatar f tn That was another thing I wondered as if I wait too long, I get pain in the right temple with it. How does it jump from side to side? It's kind of funny the way it effects my teeth...it will go on the lower teeth to the last front tooth on the left side. It travels no further. My dentist explained that was where the left nerve stopped. Lydia and drsdonthelp, are either one of you currently on Tegretol? That may be one that I will be able to ask about on Monday.
624326 tn?1223829190 There is a fabulous site of the Facial Pain Association that deals with the various types of facial pain and is dedicated to the treatment of them. For MS (my forum) this is Trigeminal Neuralgia and Atypical Trigeminal Neuralgia. fpa-support.org I hope this also has good info for you.
Avatar m tn Traumatic trigeminal neuropathy is generally not associated with trigeminal neuralgia. However, both entities may be responsive to pharmacologic intervention. Seeing a neurologist or orofacial pain specialist misadvised.
Avatar n tn my son developed trigeminal neuralgia after a dental procedure. he is presently on medication for it. he is 28 years old and what is research showing for future care.
738075 tn?1330575844 I woke up with Trigeminal Neuralgia last Thursday morning. I knew that was what it was, because I had it once seven years ago. This time it's SO much worse! I told myself I'd "tough it out" for the weekend, even though I did put in a call to my neurologist. By Sunday, it was so bad, I was in tears! I told my DH "just take me out back and shoot me like an old horse!" I was kidding, but kinda serious, too!
Avatar n tn s wrong is to keep a pain journal. List when the pain happens, how long it lasts, how would you describe it, what parts of the face are affected, does anything seem to trigger the pain, have you had any recent injuries. Have you seen a doctor about the pain? Have you had any diagnostic tests? If so, what type and what were the results? I hope you don't have Trigeminal Neuralgia, but if you do a good Facial Pain specialist can help you get some pain relief.
Avatar n tn I had to find out the cause for my sinusitis with steady eyes and jaw pains. It was long time to come to atypical trigeminal neuralgia. Now I have to find out how to threat this neuralgia? If you want I can send you drawings of the two branches! I have terrible pressure from the top of the head into eyes holes and thought always there is only sinusitis. Head MRI has shown that there is lesion on the pons of the head. It could be cause for my TN? I still don't know what it is.
Avatar m tn I used to drink very heavy and then stopped for a long time. Then for the last 10 years I was drinking moderately. I then stopped to look after my mum. That was 3 years ago. I started getting shooting pains up and down the left side of my head which was diagnosed as trigeminal neuralgia by a neurologist who then discharged me. The pain seems to be spreading and I now have nystagmus and tachardiya.
Avatar f tn I'm going to tell my story so it will be kind of long, but has a great end ing..promise;-). In 2011, at age 29, I noticed a sharp pain when I brushed my teeth. At the time, like many others, I assumed it was dental related. I went to the dentist and they found nothing wrong. As the weeks went on, the pain started happening when I talked, brushed, washed my face, clenched my teeth, slept, smiled, if the wind blew hard, etc. It was the WORST pain of my life.
Avatar m tn Numbness on the side of your foot would be unusual to be a side effect of oxcarbazepine. How long have you had trigeminal neuralgia? Have you ever had an MRI of your brain? Another cause of facial pain include giant cell arteritis or temporal arteritis. This condition is due to an inflammation in the temporal artery and other arteries in the body. Symptoms include one sided headache pain in the temple and jaw that may be triggered by chewing.
567677 tn?1246767776 Every day of my life lately has been filled with bouts of pain in the left side of my face. Absolute torture! Seems no matter what I do pain still there. Pain shoots. Stops for second or two then shoots. all day, all night! Nothing can do about it except suffer. It is driving me crazy!!! Why would it last so long? If could go without eating or talking or smiling or anything it wouldn't start. I see Neuro Wednesday hopefully he will help me!!!!
404715 tn?1233829631 Not having any doctors here to help me I went out of town to an emergency where they then put me on tegretol and told me I most likley have trigeminal neuralgia and set up an appointment with a neurologist.I was on tegretol for two weeks and waiting to go to my neurologist appointment but the pain was still unbearable so I went to the emergency in my city where they changed my meds and put me on neurotin which took a week to work and most of the pain is gone.
Avatar f tn Hello, I would like to know if any one out there has TMJ like symptoms along the jaw area, along with their neuralgia. I have been told it is not trigeminal neuralgia, but the symptoms seem to be more like atypical trigeminal instead.. It is consistent, and very painful and the pain medications are making me so sick, I can't function.
Avatar n tn I have recently been experiencing facial numbness with external sensitivity to light touch, like hair brushing my cheek. I also have some pretty bad pain that just won't go away. I have been MRI'd, CT Scanned, and blood drawn for the last 2 months. I am living in AK and we just can't get any answers. The doctor's last thing was " I really don't know what is going on." I need answers, does Trigeminal Neuralgia pain last this long?
Avatar m tn Very good points you wrote here..Great stuff...I think you've made some truly interesting points.Keep up the good work.
