it also depends how well your body adjusts to the pills. I really couldn't say if my cycles are normal, as I am on birth control. But I saw my doctor almost 2 weeks ago and advised him on some symptoms I was having 2 weeks after my period and he sais it was my hormones regulating. So therefore I might have a normal cycle, but I wont know anything until next year (next appointment is Jan 2010). Good luck.
Hello everyone , I was just told this wk i have pcos & i was put on metformin I've been doing some research and it seems like I've learned more about pcos by reading everyones info so thanx to all but my ?
I started the first one with provera on the 22 of August but like I want to know how long does it take for ovulation to actually begin when you first start taking metformin. I am curious and well.....worried. I was happy to find out what was wrong with me but I just want this medicine to work b/c i am tired of not knowing for sure that i can get on a regular cycle.
I dont know that this was due to the metformin but I dont think I was eating that different. Dont rely on it to help you that way. it can take a long time to work the way you want it to. But it can only help you while trying to get pregnant. I am surprissed they dont have you on it already. My dr made sure I was on it before putting me on clomid since clomid can creat large cysts and metformin can help prevent that. Good luck I hope you get put on it. I am taking 1500mg.
metformin does not affect post-prandial blood glucose so it doesn't need to be taken with food to work correctly. it works gradually in the body to decrease glucose production in the liver, improve insulin resistance and increase glucose uptake into cells.
ALSO FOUND THIS! Just now how long it takes metformin to work depends on the reason that a woman is taking metformin. If a woman is taking metformin to regulate her blood sugar, metformin typically will work within a few days or a few weeks at the most. For the woman with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) metformin can help to reduce the amount of insulin in the body. Once the insulin levels are under control, many women will then experience improved ovulation.
when you need to get a medication filled you pick up a number and see which ever pharmacist happens to call your number. At that point they tell you how to take/use a medication and you then wait for your name to be displayed on a board to pick up your medication. they DO NOT go over anything else.

I would research it before he does it but I would highly recommend it. it isn't just for diabetics either. You should try it yourself, if you did it with him it would show your commitment to him and help. My girlfriend did it with me and we were there to help each other and it has given me back my life. I am now excited about the future and am raving about the cleanse to everyone, especially diabetics.

metformin and Provera together gives me a headache! So far no side effects to the provera, taking it at night seems to be helping! metformin 500mg per day (for now) is not so bad, I have some diarrhea but not like the last time i tried met at 1000mg per day to start! Talking about egg retrieval and maybe gestational carrier (that's what surrogates are called in Michigan) if my condition doesn't reverse! Gestational Carriers are legal in MI as long as there is no money exchanged!
I just finished taking provera for the first time, i took 5 tablets for 5 days was just wandering how long it will take me to get my period?? I have no pancreas now and as a diabetic I take metformin and Cotizim I also take medication unrelated to my problem that I have taken for years My question is, is there an alternative medicine that could work or something I could do to make opiates work I would really really appreciate some help. Thx in advance.
Only side affects I suffered from were stomach upsets and diareaha in the first 2 weeks of starting it. I've been on it for about 2 years now, and the side affects are all gone. Generally speaking, metformin can take 3-12 months to kick in and actually start working.
I have been on metformin for 8 moths now and my dr just uped my dosage to 1500mg. So far it has not worked for me. I am still not ovulating. For me the symptoms were stomach aches, nuasea, head aches. They were really bad when I was getting used to the 1000mg. But once your body gets used to it the symptoms should go away, you might be left with mild cases of them. I found that my symptoms feel better if I am moving around and kepping myself busy but when I relax they get worse.
I had it in for over a year but wanted it removed because my husband and I are planning for another baby. So I have one more question, how long could it take to conceive once it is removed? and is it safe to try the first month that it has been removed?
I had to start taken it at night, because when nature called, I had to RUN!. it wasn't the best situation at work, so taking it at night seems to not have an effect on my tummy. I'm also on provera, waiting for my period, to take clomid. I having acne breakouts and not sure if its from the metformin or provera.
Hun - metformin is us to regulate your periods and to make your body accept hormones that are somewhat all over the place which is caused by the pcos. GPS won't give you clomid - you have to be referred to a fertility specialist as its a very complex thing and you need monitoring closely. When you start your cycle (obviously metformin every day anyhows) you will take 1 tab of clomid on 2-5 of your cycle, this in turn should produce a healthy folicle which carries egg causing you to ovulate.
I have been taking metformin 500 mg -- two tablets daily for one week and my sugar is pretty much unchanged, higher if anything. how long does it take for metformin to lower my sugar. I have not changed my diet but do eat low carbs and no prepared foods. Is alcohol an issue with diabeties.
