My wife is trying to come off of Risperdal on account we would like to try to conceive . how long until the medicine is out of her system / when the side effects of coming off the drug will subside. She has been not taking for 6 days with side effects such as: Extreme nausea Sweats Continuous headache Irritability ,etc Any help on the subject?

There was one side effect that I read that sort of concerned me aside from the movement side effects. Does the inability to move the eyes always go away or can it be permanent? How long does it take for it to go away if it occurs?

I have taken Abilify before and it didn't seem to do anything. I took Seroquel and had to stop it for side effects. I took Geodon a very long time ago but don't remember how it effected me. I wish I didn't have all these side effects with the Risperdal it is working well for me otherwise.

I think the problem is more the Risperdal then the Concerta. Side effects listed for Risperdal include - Aggressive behavior, agitation, anxiety, stiffness or weakness of the arms or legs, tic-like or twitching movements, trembling and shaking of the fingers and hands, trouble sleeping, and twisting body movements. This is only my own opinion. But for me any kind of medication is the last resort, especially whilst their brains are growing. All medicines have side effects. Some of the medication prescribed for autism/ADHD can have permanent effects such as tics etc. Also, you don't have a diagnosis yet, so how do they know what to prescribe? I know other parents who have had hormes prescribed to help with sleep.

At the time in which she was beginning the Risperdal she had been off her bipolar meds for sometime. Not sure how long she had used it or any side effects which may have occurred (lost touch) She is currently just using lithium and doing well. I have tried several different antipsychotics and keep getting bad side effects with them that have been so bad I can't take them. I have been on seroquel, risperdal, geodon, abilify, and currently on latuda. On the latuda if I take more than 40mgs I get akathisia real bad, but on the 40mgs I start rapid cycling. My doc said I could try saphris, but I am sick of trying these antipsychotics. He said then the next option would be to try lithium. I am currently on lamictal 200mgs, latuda 40mgs.

incidentally how do you get this 0.5 and .25 risperidone. the minimum dose here is 1mg which i take it's a local brand called apexidone instead. i have a cutter which cuts in half my seroquel but couldn't manage the risperidone because it's glazy.

I began taking atypical antipsychotics just over a year ago, and stopped just over a month ago. I have been on Risperdal, Abilify, Seroquel, Zyprexa, and Geodon, in that order. Risperdal caused me to have a grand mal seizure. I was only on it for a month or so, and I was taking a fairly low dose (I don't remember precisely how much). Neither Abilify and Seroquel lasted long because of unpleasant side effects (nausea and twitching/akathesia).

It can cause effects that appear to be psychiatric at times. If its akathesia or extra pyramidal side effects then your psychiatrist could titrate the anti-psychotics and add a side effect pill to control it. If its tardive dyskinesia such as I have, which can emerge in a variety of forms including tardive dystonia then they would switch you over to Clozaril immediately as it can be very dangerous in advanced forms (such as I have).

All medications such as this can have withdrawal issues. Cold turkey going without Risperdal would be very rare for a doctor to recommend. Are you sure this was what your doctor wanted you to do? Again, this is not a normal recommendation and especially for a 4 mg dose. You need to see your doctor again. Now, it's been 2 months.
