how long do prozac side effects last

I have heard that it is only a couple of weeks for side effects to diminsh but for some reason they start later and last longer with me. How long have you had side effects on the 5mg dose? I went to a counselor and she said, "Well, you have been on Prozac for almost 9 weeks now. It should be doing something." I believe that it is and will even more if I ever get to stick at one dose for more than 4 weeks.

well when i was on klonipine all i had was side effects it was horrible and getting off of it is just withdraws and getting off of any long term med is a pain in *** ..i have my own probs and my doc keeps ripping mine off an on from me so i know how it goes it *****...i always have to go cold turkey...

When I came off of it, my doc put me on a taper as I came off of it. I did notice some side effects like naseau and increased anxiety, however I kept an open line of communication with the doc. I asked if it would be okay to go on a slower taper as I came off of it. He agreed and the slower taper seemed to help with the side effects. I am glad that you are seeing a psychiatrist to help you with your medication prescriptions and questions.

There is no good body of knowledge about the long term effects....if he were just starting the medication, I would think it might be a side effect, but if he has been using for twenty years, then probably not, but can't say that for sure...the way to find out is ask the doctor to take him off of prozac and see if his symptoms subside...should be done carefully and slowly over a 5 week period.......

Shortly after I started the drug, I started having hot flashes and bad leg cramps. My doctor then prescribed Effexor for those side effects. I started at 37.5 mg and worked up to 75mg which I took for 5 years. A month ago he changed my prescription to 37.5 mg and said to stop once the medicine ran out. I took my last pill 3 days ago. I feel horrible. I have nausea, dizziness, a swoshing feeling when I turn my head from side to side and just feel bad overall. I have been cranky and moody.

I have been on Wellbutrin for 3 days and have severe insomnia, constipation and dizziness. Will these side effects last long? Will they go away eventually?

Hi there. Is this better? Prozac does give some gi side effects. When my son started this, he had nausea and it lasted for about a week and a half and then began getting better. He chewed ginger gum, ate tums and peptobismal chews. They seemed to help him. Was trazadone new as well? I will say that unless something is really awful, giving a full trial is best in my opinion. My son actually needed the full dose of prozac of 80 mg, so prepare that they may tweak your dosage as well.

My question is, does Prozac have low side effects like Zoloft but does it work better? And should I be taking a SSRI or SNRI for depression and anxiety, what works better with less side effects?

My do started me on Prozac 20mg for severe anxiety. I took it and it cause terrible side effects so I stopped after 2 doses. It's been 3 since my last dose. My side effects were tingling in hands, feet, and face, zoned out, muscle twitches, insomnia, no appetite, groggy and a few other things. I'm feeling a little better now 3 days later but still not where I was when will I be back to normal. Also in was given Atarax for my anxiety and take it still as needed.

I started prozac (20mg) 2 weeks ago. 1 week in, i suffered a major panic/anxiety attack. and a few smaller ones afterwords. i went into a 3 day tail spin of intense anxiety, racing thoughts, and obsessive thinking about the anxiety and fear of it coming back. i could literally not think of anything else. on top of that hell, i couldn't sleep through the night. 50mg of diphenhydramine would knock me out. but i would wake up 1-3 hours later.
