Avatar m tn My specialist has feferred me for an ablation procedure which I am waiting for now. I was put on warfarin and bisoprolol and due to the nature of my work I cannot go back whilst on warfarin as i work offshore. I was wandering why I cant be put on asprin which will at least allow me to pass my medical to return to work after the ablation. I have been off work for 3 months due to this and without pay which is causing me a great deal of stress and anxiety.
Avatar m tn Based on my own personal experience I would avoid the Tikosyn and the Flecainide based on experiences that I have had, however everyone responds differently and its important that you and your doctor maintain dialog about what works and what does not work for you. I have been in Afib for 3 years straight now and I have also been on Warfarin for that same period of time.
Avatar f tn Hi, my mom is 81 yrs. old. She gets out of breath just walking a few steps.. She's on dialysis three times a week for three hrs. She has pneumonia for about a month and she has had x-rays done on her lungs when she went in to have blood work done (she's on warfarin). The doctor didn't like the looks of the x-rays and had her take a CT scan. They found a knot on her lung. She'll be seeing a lung doctor next week. Should I be concern she might have cancer?

612551 tn?1450022175 Rosenfeld) said the new drug does not require any blood tests (protime) and does not have the bleeding problems of Warfarin. He said it is being evaluated by the US FDA. Sounds like good news to me, and AFig sufferer.
Avatar m tn I was on Pradaxa for about 2 months. I have never taken Warfarin, but I do work in healthcare and am very familiar with coumadin (warfarin). I do check patients PT/INR levels. The only problem I had while taking Pradaxa was my gums bleeding. It was not a significant amount. I did let my EP guy know about it, and he said just one of the side effects. So I just monitored it and had to not brush my teeth so vigorously. But I ate what I wanted to, no PT/INR checks.
233622 tn?1279334905 The clearance of R-warfarin is generally half that of S-warfarin, thus as the volumes of distribution are similar, the half-life of R-warfarin is longer than that of S-warfarin. The half-life of R-warfarin ranges from 37 to 89 hours, while that of S-warfarin ranges from 21 to 43 hours. Studies with radiolabeled drug have demonstrated that up to 92% of the orally administered dose is recov-ered in urine. Very little warfarin is excreted unchanged in urine.
Avatar f tn With AFib you need some anticoagulant protection. A better protection is to use Coumadin or Warfarin. They require a prescription, but the generic Warfarin is available at very low cost, e.g., Walmart. The bigger cost for being on an anticoagulant is getting the blood tests to be sure the level of medication is right. But given you can't take aspirin (did you take them with food?), there doesn't seem to be another choice. I do not know anything about Ginseng...
Avatar m tn Sorry to hear about your friends. In my opinion, Warfarin (Coumadin) is a very safe drug as long as the patient RELIGIOUSLY takes it exactly as ordered and goes in for regular lab work as often as the physician orders. That may be weekly in the beginning or at other times when the INR may be unstable. There are a number of medications that can interfere with Warfarin, as well as certain foods. Always ask the pharmacist before taking any new drug, especially over the counter ones.
612551 tn?1450022175 Been on warfarin for years with stable INR results. Anyone have view on mixing warfarin and Coq10 meds?
Avatar m tn and im on warfarin ( blood thinner)? any info on this..thanks james......i have d.vt. had a pulmonary embolism in 2000.
Avatar f tn Please call your doctor urgently and ask for a change in prescription. Since warfarin does not suit you, you need to be put on another anticoagulant. Also, yes, your INR should be monitored while you are only any anticoagulant. Maybe the blood tests you had also included INR. Please immediately contact your doctor and do not repeat the medication. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
1488195 tn?1288153991 I'm 85 and have been on Warfarin for 3 years. #1 - Is this the best treatment? #2 - Even taking thinners, can I stroke out at any time?
Avatar m tn However, when I visited the Cardiologist for the first time last Wednesday he informed me that neither he nor any of the other Cardiologists wanted me to continue taking Warfarin, and that they wanted me to switch over to one 81 mg baby aspirin a day. Does this make any sense, and if so, what is their reasoning? This discussion is related to How long to stay on Tykosin .
Avatar n tn Well before any decision is made for something like Warfarin, you should have your INR (clotting factor) tested. An INR of 1 is how long normal blood takes to clot. An INR of 2 means it take twice as long and so it goes on. Aspirin and Clopidogrel (plavix) I believe attack the clotting mechanisms in different ways. Personally I don't think they know the long term outcomes.
Avatar n tn my 74 year old father has been taken 5mg of warifin and low dose asprin (81mg) for along time know,..he had a stent put in about 5 years ago and still contiues to combine the two....how does this sound to you guy's??
Avatar f tn I completely agree, I would not suggest trying a new medication right now with your new job. Medication is such a trial an error process; it sometimes can be so unbearable on the wrong medication. If you have something that works then I say stay on it. It sounds like Lexapro does work for you. If you can't sleep tonight then maybe just go back to taking it in the morning. I hope I wasn't coming on to negative about Lexapro because I know that it works for many people.
1569985 tn?1328247482 s nurse said ask the doctor doing the procedure how long I should be off of the Warfarin. Doctor says ask the assistant when she gives me my instructions. Assistant says, "Oh, I'm supposed to tell you? Do you need a bridge medication like Lovenox?" Makes me a little nervous going off of it anyway and now this. They are supposed to call me with specific instructions, but it seems like everyone is passing the buck.
Avatar f tn DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WARFARIN CAN LOWER YOUR BLOOD COUNT AND AND ALSO LOWER CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D LEVELS?
1415174 tn?1453243103 But my question is when does the swelling from the clot go down and how does the body break it up or remove it on its own? And, how long will this take (approximately). I am in pain and am taking high dose Tylenol and can't take that forever. I do have tramadol but don't know if that is easier on the liver or not. I also don't want to get on that too much as I was on it before and went through withdrawal from it. I want to get mobilized and walking as soon as I can.
