How long does it take for Symbicort to work in not making me have deep coughing which I didn't have before Symbicort? Is this normal? Does it take a few weeks to clear your lungs with deep coughing or is this a side effect and I should call my doctor?
I see a pulmonologist and an allergist who coordinate with my primary care but when I started with my primary care she didn't even know how to tell me how to use an inhaler and quickly told me to see a specialist! Good luck and God Bless! Tanja - Let me know how it ends up working out. It took me 5 months to figure out my medication.
yes they are artificial,no much longer good response, how your liver got damage?
Even at small doses over an extended period of time, the prednisone does affect how your adrenals work and they will need a period of time to readjust to working naturally. Best o fluck!
I am scared of letting my doc know because I don`t want to be taken off the program after all this work. She knows that I`m having trouble but not the severity. Please, if you can, tell me something encouraging or offer advise. Thanks - this board is great.
Specialist said that different people have different nasal passages and it depends on how the tilt their head all day how it will run. I tend be on the computer or walking so my head is tilted forward and I get Hiker's Honker! I do have hypothyroidism, but I know I have had this runny nose since I was a very little girl.
Within the past 3 years I had bronchitis about 4 times a year, and 2 years ago I had an exposode where I was at work and could not catch my breath no matter how hard I tried, I felt like I was suffocating. I left work and went to doc, doc told me that I was not moving air in lungs, had me do breathing treatments in office to get air. Gave me meds, told me to stay out of work till I was better. She sent me for Chest X-Ray. A week later I went back to see her and was breathing better.
Even tho' I'm now seeing doctors and specialists we all know it's good to get 2nd or 3rd opinions. I'd like your general advice on how best to handle these ailments. I'll describe what I'm doing already, with notes on which medication I'm taking and which conditions have actually been diagnosed...but if there is some extra good advice to be had I'm all for it. I am male, 33 years, 173cm and 82kg (live in Germany). My diet and physical activity is average (cycle most days...

This is a problem as I cannot sleep at all when this happens. Again, it does happen during the day but seems worse at night. I'm consistently blocked and cannot breath very well. Is there anything that can be done to get this out of my chest. i stand in hot showers and cough as much as I can to get this out to no avail. I do not know what else to do. In October I contracted the swine flu and have had this issue ever since off and on. Prior to this I never had this problem. Please advise.

Getting pain in my back lower ribs, Been on Pred 8 for 4 days, 6 for 3 days - 4 for 3 days and finishing up with 2 for 3 days 5mg, I am aslo on ventolin, Sprivia, and symbicort... any suggestions or advice ? I also just finished 6 Moxifloxacin HCL 400 mg, Nothing seems to be doing the job.
As a fellow singer, I recommend that you try the HFA version of Advair or Symbicort. Symbicort tends to be a little cheaper. It works great for most people, but I didn't metabolize it well at all and nose dived on it. I don't know if you have heard this before, but clearing your throat is VERY hard on your vocal cords. You need to break that habit. Instead a cough or hard swallow is much better for you. I learned that from a speach therapist.
Can you share your experiences about acute bronchitis? How long does this take to heal and feel better? How much corticosteroids is good for bronchitis?
My day is busy as it is and I need to be functioning a 100% at work, and these days my boss is complaining about my work as I am not as sharp as I used to be. What happens then is my sleep becomes disrupted because I am way over tired trying to perform as "normal" and then it becomes this crazy vicious cycle of bad sleep due to sheer exhaustion and very little stress tolerance. I don't know how long I can keep this up.
I took a gander at their website to see how it is supposed to work. My take is it would be a last ditch treatment if all else fails as far as I am concerned.
I found out mine was completely empty last night when I woke up last night in an attack and the ventolin didn't work very well. Why does the advair have a counter on inhaler and ventolin doesn't?? does not make sense to me!
Acolate and Zyflo are other leukotrient modifiers, but Singulair is the go to for beginners. It is actually good to talk about the brands and how they work for you. One brand may work better for some people than it does for others. Knowing there are options and what they are is very helpful. Personally, I do okay on Advair, terrible on Symbicort, but very well on Dulera. Other I know do very well on Symbicort but not the others.
Im 28 yrs old. I work full time in an ER.. and i also work on an ambulance. I thought i had a chest cold starting about 5 weeks ago.. i went to my doctor 2 weeks ago.. i started Leviquin antibiotic.. 7 days into it, i wasnt feeling any better. i went back to the doctor. he put me on prednisone, avelox and albuterol inhaler.. sunday while working in the ER, i went into respiratory distress at work (probably best place for it to of happened).. anyway. i ended up being admitted..
If I am having breathing problems even after using symbicort, singulair and my FEV1 is in the low 80s how bad is my asthma? Does this mean my lungs are permanently damaged and will get worse with time?
But I'm going to try to go to a clinic or something to try to get a physician sample of Symbicort (that's how I got started on it). I went to the pharmacy today to try to get some, but it costs ALOT !! since my insurance is expired or wtv, my mom didn't really tell me what was going on with that? Last time I did my peak flow meter was 3 months ago, so I don't really remember. I'll try to go get one at the pharmacy tomorrow or something. Would Pulmicort do the job until my appointment?
Symbicort is a controller inhaler that you take twice daily. For me its been the best controller. It does the same thing as your flovent but for me works better. When I first found out I was pregnant I didn't have any control over my asthma I was using my inhaler several times a day. Talk to your primary care physician see what else you can do. I'm now 29 weeks and haven't used my inhaler in over a week. Mostly thanks to symbicort.
Please excuse my English - must translate my thoughts as I write! :-) Does anyone have a possible explanation for the following? Since January-February: Elevated diaphragm, atelectases - total lung capacity 55 %, restrictive breathing pattern and paradoxical breathing movements. O2-sat 94-95. I strongly believe the number I saw for total lung volume was 1,7 l. Broncoscopy showed nothing, no mucus, tissue seemed healthy, nothing showed up on tests for bacteria or fungus. Blood pressure fine.
The steroid does not get into your blood stream like oral steroids. The steroid can take up to 2 weeks to work. Symbicort also has a long acting bronch dilater. Be sure to take your doses as close to 12 hours apart as you can. This makes the broncho dilater most effective. Don'y hesitate to use the Ventolin if you are having any problems at all. You might try Zyrtec instead of Claritin. Many allergist's do not think Claritin is very effective.
Many people really like Symbicort. It didn't work for me, but the other two work great. I also have bronchiecstasis. In my research, I learned that it is very common. My first pulmo told me that the severity of bronchiecstasis has no correlation with severity of symptoms. I have mild bronchiecstasis, but that and my asthma seem to be controlling my life. I was treated for Neutrophilic ashtma with Biaxin. I despise the stuff as well.
34 yo male, previous mild controlled asthma from childhood, smoked socially since 17, 20/40 a week for last 9/10 years, no exposure to pollutants, have not smoked in last 4 months, currently experiencing breathlessness / feeling of obstruction at rest, on excersize (can excersize well on Ventolin), coughing daily ( somethines deep rooted and harsh), phlegm daily 2 x thimbles clear and frothy Have a rattle at times in chest (after vigirous excersize) which is relieved by cough.
Not fun, I know. You are already on good ones. You could try Symbicort as it does work better for some people than Advair does. Make sure your acid reflux is well controlled. You may need to step up to a proton pump inhibitor for that. Other options would include adding antihistamine and/or Singulair. Also, nasal sprays if allergies are a problem as well. Also, you might need to consider allergy shots. I hope you can regain controll without the added controller meds.
