How does seroquel work

Common Questions and Answers about How does seroquel work

seroquel

Avatar m tn I've been on Seroquel for almost 6 years and yes it does work. The right dose gets rid of the anger. I've tried lowering my dose to 300mg but I get really angry so 400mg keeps me peaceful and generally happy. It's good because it makes me sleep. If I get depressed I usually take Wellbutrin with it and it works great.
192368 tn?1224204130 ve gone through the same kind of bipolar depression and geodon didnt help at all, it just me really hungry and sleep for 18 hours after each 40 mg dose... seroquel does work but stay at a low dosage or better yet lamictal is supposed to have antidepressant features.

Avatar m tn I used to take seroquel xr 600. Life was smooth, work was going fine. But doctor told me to reduce medicine, I reduced but i was fine till 200 mg, Later doctor started to say seroquel is not good take another and the new one made me hard to work i left work, hard to do anything. But everything was smooth before. If doctor has told me this is a life time medicine you have to take it 400 mg forever i wont be missing anything. But everywhere doctor says to change the mediicne.
1255530 tn?1269867619 My husband - also bipolar - takes Seroquel too. He started on Abilify, had bad side effects, and was switched to Seroquel. He loves it. Good luck in your research and in finding the right cocktail.
Avatar f tn I have tried all sorts of antidepressives throughout my life and unfortunately none other than seroquel have worked. I got out of the hospital and still was depressed and I asked my doctor to try a new medication and she put me on seroquel. I immediately felt good for once. Unfortunately I had surgery on my foot and I also have back problems. I lost my job and I am feeling very bad right now.
1168718 tn?1464983535 I have good Doctors who if something does not work try something else and consult other Doctors. I have had Doctors I could not work with and I have learned the Doctor patient relationship is so important. I do my research, we discuss a drug and I respect my Doctor and try it. If it does not work its back to the drawing board. There is a horror story for every drug, herb, and procedure in medicine. Ask yourself do I trust my Doctor?
Avatar f tn When I was reading the old posts, I was amazed about how much of this med people are taking. It does amaze me that they can get the huge amount of it. Even if you were to write a stolen script,it is sooo very expensive. At least 100-200 a bottle. I am not asking where people get it from so I can then get it, I am just really curious as to how it happens.
3246041 tn?1347162417 I was initally put on prozac, DID not work, then Paxil.. again a fail. THEN seroquel (at age 17) 100 mg. I felt so much better, but felt like I wasnt getting the 'full bennefits' from it. So the dr. added Lexapro. Eventually I felt myself again. I was so depressed and upset I was done.. But thankfully This medication saved me. I eventually lost my insurance, came off the both of them and felt fine actually. But then after a couple months it all started to kick back in.
Avatar m tn this seems likely accidental but go to the nearest ER and see a doctor please
574118 tn?1305135284 It depends on the specific person but Seroquel does have strong mood stabilization effects. It was complex for myself as a person with schizoaffective disorder or people I knew with bipolar with psychotic features as there a mood stabilizer and an antipsychotic was neccessary. With straight bipolar Seroquel being an FDA approved mood stabilizer should work at a therapeutic dose. You can see if at a proper dose you can tolerate the akathesia.
Avatar f tn No one has posted a comment at all to my questions about Seroquel, weight gain, and sleep. This is getting pretty frustrating. I'm not understanding how this forum works; or, it doesn't work.
Avatar f tn Hi Cocolei- I have taken Seroquel for years. At one point I did take a small dose of Seroquel during the day -50mg. At night I have taken as much s 600-800mg. When I was in the hospital, there were some people taking as much as 1000mg at bedtime. You didn't say how much total Seroquel you are on. But I do know that the Seroquel really helps stablize my moods. Talk to your doctor about this medication, it sounds like maybe you are not on enough at bedtime.
Avatar m tn it is also prescribed for sleep disorders (at low doses) as they found it does not work for what it was initially intended for...i was prescribed it, but havent resorted to it yet and probably wont...but it is used for sleep and as a boost or addition to antidepressants for depression...for use at night only as it does induce sleep...(25mgs-100mgs) 600 mgs is what was prescribed when used for bipolar etc...doesnt work well for that, it now has other uses...
Avatar m tn When i start to worry little bit i started to get ill. I was disable to concentrate on my work. Later i took seroquel 300mg which i took in past and found some freshness. I was smooth on seroquel but when doctor start changing medicine from seroquel to risperdal , slowly disaster begin on my life. I miss 2 jobs. Which was so easy. Later i took the seroquel back i felt some relief now. If not i cant conecntrate, i dont like computer, i cant study, slow, happens. Does this happened to any of you?
Avatar f tn My doc put me on Seroquel and Envega as nothing else would work. I have been able to come down a couple of 100 mgs of Seroquel, so I am on 300 extended release of Seroquel at night along with 3 mgs of Envega as well at night. I get up at 5 and read and do Tai Chi exercises. But I am SO doped up till noon/1:00 pm that I have to take a nap around 8 a.m.
Avatar f tn Since you've had the problem since before you started the meds, it's pretty hard to attach it to them, don't you think? Depression can also cause sexual problems, particularly lack of desire. So I'm a bit confused -- are you blaming the drugs for it? Am I getting the timeline wrong? If what I'm reading is right and you had sexual dysfunction while on no medication at all, as you seem to indicate, that kind of alters the Wellbutrin question.
5544493 tn?1369608788 While seroquel does interact with a lot of things (including wellbutrin), ibuprofen isn't one of them, according to the drugs.com interaction checker. Wellbutrin is an antidepressant, not a mood stabilizer, although it's one of the least likely to send a bipolar person (hypo)manic. And everyone's different--seroquel is a marvelous drug for some, and absolutely horrible for others.
Avatar f tn I started taking 50mg of Seroquel in December for sleep. Shortly after I began to feel as if I couldn't breathe. I went to the ER and they checked me out and told me it was anxiety. So I saw My nurse practitioner and she prescribed Vistaril 50 mg 3x a day. I room it for a week. Still had the same symptoms. I figured out It was The seroquel. I tried to call the nurse but they are never available so I did not do my homework on this med and quit it cold Turkey.
1305767 tn?1361192676 Well the doctor I saw on Sat. gave me Seroquel which does the same job as Abilify. The doctor was out of Seroquel sample today so he gave me the Abilify. He said for me to try it as an add on to the 40 milligrams of Celexa. He didn't say to keep or stop taking the Ativan I guess that's up to me but I doubt he will refill it once it's gone. The Abilify is only 2 mg. and the Seroquel was 50 mg.
142722 tn?1281533616 Like i said before it made me worse at times - I have decided to go to my psychiatrist tomorrow and ask him.
Avatar f tn Yes, in most people it does make them very sleepy. 14 hours a night not abnormal for someone taking Seroquel if they are sensitive to it or new to the drug. May I suggest asking your P-doc about Seroquel XR. It is an extended release formula of the drug and should be easier for you to tolerate. Many people report that after switching to the XR formula that they can take it during the day once they get used to the drug.
Avatar f tn However, in Jan of this yr I cycled into a depression and the Seroquel seems to make it worse! Does this mean I need to be off the Seroquel for now? I'm just so confused! Do bipolar patients get stabilized eventually or are we always adjusting meds? Thanks!
