Avatar n tn any advice or experiences that could help me understand would be really helpful please. My brother has started university to study architecture this year and due to the huge amount of nights he had to work, started going on modafinil. Now that the year is finished and he's not taking it however, he has become aggressive, irrational and rude. Does anyone know if this is because of the modafinil or if there's a link.
Avatar m tn Hi. I need some help figuring out how Modafinil works. I basically have something which seems like Insomnia but it isn't. I believe I suffer from Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome. I have had it since I was 15, I am 25 now. The problem is that, I can't maintain a proper schedule. I can never sleep at a particular time everyday. It keeps moving as every day passes by. For example, right now I am sleeping at around 9 AM everyday and then I am getting up at around 5 PM.
7126533 tn?1388405470 I recently started taking Modafinil for fatigue and apart from the fatigue being much improved, the incontinence has also vastly improved - fingers crossed it has actually stopped. Is this coincidence or can the Modafinil have caused this?
5160872 tn?1385248794 I am switching from Avonex to Tecifidera and from Modafinil to Symmetrel. How has these worked out for others? I am looking forward to not having the injections and being able to take pills instead.
14631020 tn?1436545476 / I also have trigeminal neuralgia which I equate to being hit repeatedly in the head with a base ball bat. Thankfully I don't get that too often. To make a long story short I thought my thyroid gland was dead. After an ataxic episode (I just couldn't stand up to balance myself) and several normal thyroid tests, my doc sent me for a brain MRI that I flunked miserably. My neuro thinks I have primary progressive MS but he said it will take years to know for him to be sure.
572651 tn?1530999357 Wow, OK, this thread answered all kinds of questions for me! *sigh* Lulu, when your neuro prescribed Modafinil, did he use specific language like "shift work", of "Narcolepsy", or does your insurance cover "off label" prescribing? Mine doesn't.
667078 tn?1316000935 Alex, if your fatigue is caused by anemia I wonder how useful the Modafinil would be for you. I think if it were me I would seek to correct that problem first. ie: B12, iron, transfusion, etc and only after that consider Modafinil if the fatigue still hasn't improved.
Avatar m tn 30AM (by somehow getting myself out of bed). I get there at 9, but before I go in, I have to rest in my car because the drive wiped me out. I work till 1ish, and take another Modafinil. By 3 I want to go to bed, but I somehow push through until 5. Then I go home and go to bed between the time I get home (6ish) and 9 at the latest. Oh, and when I get home, I’m so tired I feel physically sick. And it’s only Monday! I found that it gets harder as the week goes on.
Avatar f tn Can you please tell me if taking 300mg Adrafinil (pre-cursor to Modafinil) once or twice a week, to help me study. will decrease the effectivenes of birth control pills? I'm taking Levlen 1.5/30mg I know that a long term Modafinil use makes birth control pills less effective but how about short term? PLEASE ADVISE, Thank you!
Avatar m tn I am currently being treated for CFS with a medication called Modafinil. It’s the one medication that’s a stimulant, that’s not in the same class as Adderall or Ritalin with a very low abuse potential. It helps out a lot, but I feel while it is helping it does damage as well considering you get used to the medication and the CFS is 100 times worse then when it started. My question is this : What medical procedures are done to rule out it being an underlying medical condition ?
19327666 tn?1475833305 I just read where another user asked this same questions so I hope I'm not breaking rules here by being redundant. But I'm planning to try using modafinil to help deal with opiate PAWS related symptoms of fatigue/depresssion/lethargy, and just the general funkiness that we feel when we stop taking opiates after years of abuse.I'm very curious how this will work in the long term. I stopped taking percocets (about 250-500mg daily!
1253246 tn?1332073310 I suppose you could discuss Provigil (modafinil) with your doctor if you’re having problems staying awake for work; this has been used with varying degrees of success with other HCV patients in here. It’s supposed to increase focus and alertness, without involving the use of amphetamines: http://en.wikipedia.
5509293 tn?1428531475 Nuvigil, alerted, modafinil, Provigil are the same -as far as I understand. I am paying more than you - I have high deductible insurance but took the hit because I needed a replacement for amantadine to help with fatigue. Thought I was ok until the amantadine worked its way out of my system and then I crashed. But new drug is giving me BP problems. Is anyone taking the drug with NO BP problems? How much can you take?
1140169 tn?1370185076 I also take it. (Generic Provigil) When I first started it I was pretty sick the first week, but I was fine after that. It has definitely make life a a lot easier for me. I am now up to 200mg/day. I hope that it keeps working but I am not sure that I could function without it. I am preparing for life as a single mom and I have to work full time. I can't miss work or have my work suffer due to fatigue. I still get fatigued, but it's milder than it used to be.
Avatar f tn None of these meds does the same thing to all people. Everyone is affected differently. Prozac is certainly not the most stimulating antidepressant; there are several that are much more stimulating, including the snris and wellbutrin. Amphetamines? They still use those? I'd be careful with that. But you're not looking for being energized, you're looking to be less depressed -- not the same thing.
Avatar n tn I have been taking 100 grams of modafinil pills for about 2 weeks to get through exams and now that I have stopped taking anything, I am experiencing constant dizziness. I am wondering whether I should wait this out or whether I need to see a doctor asap....
498132 tn?1217461482 Hi I was diagnosed with depression and OCD about three years ago. I'm finding it very hard to cope with everything, as I seem to have no control over any part of my life. I feel like my emotions rule everything I do.
Avatar m tn Alertec, Modavigil, Modiodal, Modafinilo, Carim, Vigia). Has anyone tried this?
Avatar m tn Not good. You definitely want to look for a specialist. Might want to scope out your throat to see if there are also problems down there. Under side effects for Nuvigil it says, "Skin and mouth sores, blistering, and ulceration have been reported with modafinil and NUVIGIL in the postmarketing setting. Recurrence of signs and symptoms of serious dermatologic reactions following rechallenge has been reported in some cases.
Avatar m tn thanks for your response, on weekends usually i get up to 10+ hours a week and only reason i feel any better than during the week is no travel time to work and well i dont have to go to work. i have since stopped exercising as my weight has kind of plateaued and right now im taking a much deserved break from it after only not exercising maybe a total of 10 days in the 6ish month period.
20003388 tn?1515166040 I was recently switched from Paroxetine to Fluoxetine. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made. When on Paroxetine and I was tired ALL the time. I was literally falling asleep at my desk. It was hard to stay awake. I do have obstructive sleep apnea however I use a CPAP every night. According to the readout on the machine I usually stay between 2 and 4 events an hour.
