How does keppra work

Common Questions and Answers about How does keppra work

Avatar f tn Did you start it after or before keppra? how long were you on keppra? I wish my daughter could take Lamictal but her rash got the doctor worried, even though it was ringworm. Have you heard of any other anti-seizure meds that might actually work well for moods? I know Lamictal is a very good mood stabilizer. Good luck.
Avatar f tn s office and is not worried about other patients. We tried the generic keppra and it did not work either. Good luck with everything Iueled09, I heard some horrible things about Lamictel but that was one of the meds that our Dr. suggested. So far, I am glad that we are on Trileptal and i hope it continues to work for her. Good luck with the meds. Happy Holidays to all.
Avatar f tn Now, with the angry moods, does anyone take an anti-depressant or mood stabilizer with keppra to counteract that angry side that keppra brings out? I was not this angry (although it hasn't pushed anyone out of my life or prevented me from succeeding at work), focused on the negatives, or lack confidence before keppra. I just want to be confident and happy again, any suggestions?
Avatar n tn I donot know about the frist one But keppra for my son was a night mare, he was on it for two years keppra in one of the only that does not go thought the liver but kepra was made you older people he was mean would hit his head on the wall did not sleep well hit everyone and everthing BUT A FEW WEEKS AFTER HE STOP THIS MED HE WAS FINE (i DO NOT THINK keppra HAS ANY LONG TERM side effects) SO IT GIVE IT A TRY AND SEE IF IT workS.
Avatar f tn how about allowing their parents to teach them how to work around their disability, instead of giving them a handy-dandy crutch (i.e. pill) to overcome it. Don't get me wrong . . . I'm not saying that's what you or your husband are doing. But don't you find it amazing that ADHD has been around for years, yet there are productive people in society who have never taken medication for it? I'm not real big on neuro's. I've had one that I trust.
479255 tn?1208119748 I'm on keppra. So far so good. I used to be quite irritable but once I understand that it was the side effects of keppra, I got hold on myself and tried my beat to be aware of my reactions to others. Reading Dale Carnegie's " how to stop worrying..." helps a lot in my recovery process. I've been on keppra for about two months. Anyone been on keppra for a longer period?
1359227 tn?1282525748 Has anybody tried Neurontin? does it work for nerve pain? how long does it take to take effect? My doctor prescribed it for me today...I haven't picked it up yet...I'm hoping it will help..
Avatar f tn Ok then. Diltiazem does work pretty well for the Raynauds (I have it also) but not so good for sick sinus. I have Raynauds and arrhythmias. I noticed my PSVT wasn't so bad, the chest pains went away and the Raynauds improved during the 3 months I took it. But my heart rate did slow way down at times while on the med. So with your sick sinus syndrome, the doc may want to hold off the Diltiazem till you get the pacemaker. Keeping your rate up and steady is pretty important.
2030686 tn?1351692148 rather the individual side effects keppra. Ask her about how she thinks you will respond with the Riba and the keppra. Specifically about the behavioral side effects as well as agitation &/or irritability. I did way better on Lamictal but had to go off that a few months before treatment. I could go back on it now that I am out of the Incivek stage.
1156914 tn?1300575229 Spinal myoclonus in my abdomen Fasciculations in my legs Hand tremor that sometimes spreads up my arm to my shoulders Memory disturbances Speech difficulties, written and oral Joint pains but only at night Short concentration span Very tired no matter how much i sleep Strange feeling that goes down my spine from the base of my skull to just past my shoulders (almost like being shocked) which causes my head to jerk to the side I had blood tests (including ANA), MRI, EEG, EMG and a lumb
Avatar m tn Try to keep a log of what your dog does every day. does he stop tripping one day? does he manage to stand all through dinner one day? The progress is very slow. But if it's just drug side effects, it will get better. Be understanding if your dog begins to soil the house. Get some baby gates and put him some place safe (we blocked our dog in the kitchen). Laminated fabric is also handy to have. And hang in there! It will pass, and you'll get your friend back within a month.

Avatar f tn I have been trying massages and stretches to target these areas, I have been doing some hill walks but I did do them in the past. does this sound like spasticity or is it just the hills. Not sure what to do about it, seems to be worse. Had a horrible day yesterday when I come home but I think I was tired and it was muggy heat but then I had the worst nerve pain and weakness in my legs. Cheers, Udkas.
Avatar f tn My neurologists does not think the vomiting and diarrhea are related to seizures, but my regular doctor does. I had febrile seizures as a child and then many episodes of dizziness, head tilt, walking difficulty, and violent vomiting through the years. They finally did an eeg after a bad episode that was followed by explosive diarrhea. and it was positive for left temporal seizures. I'm just a mess and I have three doctors now and they don't want to step on each others toes.
Avatar f tn But, they said I will be going to MAYO as they don't have the facilities to test for dysautomia, but MAYO does. SO, I'm scheduled to go there in October. Sometimes, I just don't know if I can make it until then. I haven't seen a Neurologist yet or had an EEG. I'm scheduled to be back in Cleveland on August 22nd to see a Neurologist and do some testing. The thing is they want to wean me off the meds again and I have to be off them for at least 48 hours before they do the tests.
2030686 tn?1351692148 I've had a few seizures in my sleep and after the last one I was put on keppra. They don't know what's causing them yet. The keppra makes me really aggressive and off balance and I itch all over but no hives. So, I think I might be allergic to it. Today, I was in a high stress situation and I just started shaking all over and couldn't catch my balance. I didn't have any real mental issues so I don't know if it was a seizure or not.
Avatar f tn I am a 24 year old female and have been taking 3 different medications for a little over a week straight, only one of which is prescribed to me, and i would appreciate any advice as to how great of a risk i am taking relating to the chance of overdose or death, the warning signs of an overdose, the chance of death, the chance of seizures, which i am terrified of having, of warning signs of a seizure, and any advice as to the amount of damage i may be causing my body and brain.
Avatar f tn ) It has now been over 40 days since her discharge from the hospital, and the keppra is not allowing mother to lead a normal life. The pace maker is out. She does not want one at all. I firmly believe that stopping the keppra will help her to recover to where she was. Moderate work outs and being able to lift weights are a part of her life and she won't give that up without a fight.
1558393 tn?1299073631 Any way my great family doctor is slowly taking me off the keppra. I go back in two weeks and he is going to try Topamax. does anyone take this? If so does it work with your headaches? Do you have any side effects? Also has any of you been approved for disability for your Chiari? I did not want to quit my job if there was no hope.
Avatar m tn The only way to deal with that issue is to talk with your doctor. keppra might not be the one that works best for you. keppra did not work for me and I was taking around 3,000 mg a day. You might have to have a higher dose, another drug added along with keppra or try something completely different. So sorry, you are just going to have to talk with your neurologist.
Avatar n tn now wants to try keppra with more on the 'list.' how can we do what's best for her if we still don't know what she truly has? When is enough? thank-you for offering your thoughts, sincerely, matt.
585414 tn?1288944902 however, this is the first day on it and my neurologist is a movement disorders specialist will have to do a final evaluation as well to determine if it works and how. The fact that it has a mitigating effect on tardive dystonia is concordant with the studies. The fact that I slept better and it worked on what was obviously rapid cycling would not be a surprise as many mood stabilizers (Lamictal, keppra, Tegretol, Trileptal, etc.) were originally developed as anti convulsants.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure what to make of this since I thought I was a nice person before this an was able to control my self better an able to filter out what I thought an how I reacted to stressors. I'm On keppra which may contribute to the mood issues but I think since it started before being diagnosed with a seizure disorder I think Its not a huge factor in the mood changes .
Avatar m tn I have been on dilantin for 45 plus years and gave up asking what was wrong with me...My new doctor wants to switch me to keppra and I am a little scared, how did you transition from dilantin to keppra?
Avatar f tn Follow what the heart says. Sometimes logic does not work. If it is not indigenous depression, you could think of discussing any other possible causes for secondary or reactive depression, such as hypothyroidism.
Avatar n tn When I looked at the data sheet that came with the keppra, it indicated that it was for partial seizures. The keppra is very difficult to function on. I immediately felt when it hit my system. It is making me sleepy and loopy. They should rename the drug, "Blond". I have fibromyalgia and am fatigued to begin with, so I'm really dragging. I feel completely drugged. however, I'm determined to try this!
Avatar f tn My new neurologist is switching me to keppra, which I am excited about but very concerned because I have been on Dilantin so long I am worried what if it does not work. She took me down to 300 mg of Dilantin and next month will take me down to 200 mg and so on until I am no longer taking it. I am on 1000 mg of keppra with the dilanitn right now and am super tired but almost feel better. I did not expect to feel better already so not sure what is going on.
6810737 tn?1385008368 But she's still having seizures. does anyone have a shih tzu that experiences this? Do you have suggestions on how to cure this? Thank you.
505907 tn?1258372940 I can't believe how crappy I feel. I just started lithium yesterday and Depakoate today and I feel horrible - more suicidal than ever actually. Will this change drastically - like really quick? Else I'm getting off the bus tomorrow - whether that means this pathetic existence or stopping meds I can't say. Of course, I just realized, if I die tomorrow I WILL stop taking these meds anyway.... and why isn't Depakoate on my mood tracker meds list anyway?
