How does heat stroke kill you

Common Questions and Answers about How does heat stroke kill you

heat

Avatar f tn If this happens often at all you need to worry, heat stroke (unlike heat exhaustion) can atually kill a person becuase it messes with the hypathalmes (aka body heat control central). But because you said she was cold and numb, she could have been in the late stages of heat exhaustion so you caught it in the transtion. Make sure she's drinking plenty of water all day before meets. I'm a cross country runner myself and it's very very important.
Avatar n tn Yes, they just want you to heat it up first to kill any Bacteria that might be on it. For instance, I now get my subs toasted at subway.
Avatar n tn It is now 25 yrs later and I am so intolerant of heat that I had to find an answer. Yes, if you have had heat stroke, you are more susceptible to it after that. Doctors may disagree with me but I feel that it does something to your internal "thermostat" in making you less tolerant to heat. I have combatted it this long with staying in the A/C and drinking not only fluids, but COLD fluids - everything on ice and even slushies and ice cream help if you have to be outside.
Avatar f tn I had a severe heat stroke when I was 16 yrs.old. I can tell you what to expect, and how to handle it. I almost died from mine and since then I have never been the same. It did something to my immune system. If someone near me gets a cold, I get it four times worse than they do. I've almost died from the flu before too. I too get hot easily and my head starts to pound when I've been in the heat too long.
Avatar m tn You might be losing too many salts due to sweating and on that exhaustion episode might have lost minerals in salts. You have to rehydreate yourself with water and salts. Measure your blood pressure and keep it in normal range and go for testing of your minerals. Take care!
1613542 tn?1366468543 I forgot to mention i listed the heat stroke symptoms since you mention going out into the heat. Hyperthyroidism or thyroid storm does not cause heat stroke.
368646 tn?1208393887 It is my understanding that acyclovir, which I have taken, does not KILL the herpes virus. It prevents it from multiplying which allows the body the opportunity to fight the virus and heal. It is effective when the rash, cold sore, vesicle is visible (virus is active) and can be used as a suppression dosing. The double vision may be cranial nerve 6 involvement, and from what I have been told (I have CN6,7 and 8) time is what helps heal the nerves.
Avatar m tn Truly, there are no doctors on this site. The fact you didn't pass out means it was probably not heat stroke, as you'd have likely ended up in the hospital when some passerby found you lying face down. The continued feeling of skipped beats could be skipped beats or just feeling like you're having skipped beats. But only a doctor's exam will tell you if something happened.
2170635 tn?1357911686 You were right on about the bed bugs i couldent sleep so i just laied there and at the corner of my eyebi see this tiny red bug!!!! I guess my question is how do i kill them get rid of them ima have to take out the carpet ???
436837 tn?1293793226 You do right to limit the time laying in the sun. Dogs can easily get heat stroke and heat exhaustion and dehydration. Basking in the sun when it gets TOO hot is not a very good idea. I've caught my dog doing it sometimes....but most of the time she knows when she's had enough and moves automatically to the shade. A question. Just a thought. Does your dog stick close by you when you're outside? Mine is inclined to. If I am in the sun she'll come and sit or lay near me.
Avatar f tn I'm in limboland, but I've always been heat sensitive. I had heat stroke when I was younger and have had or been on the edge of heat exhaustion quite a few times. I strongly dislike summer due to the heat. I'm in upstate NY and our summer isn't horrible, but we tend to be humid. And, I can count on at least 2 weeks worth of 90+ heat (over 100 with the heat index). In the last year, when I'm overheated it seems worse then it used to.
Avatar f tn Heat exhaustion rather than heat stroke will cause excessive sweating. This happens due to being overheated and sweating and so forth then you could get heat stroke after that. See my post above for what to do.
352007 tn?1372857881 I have to agree with Lulu as it being neurological. Both heat exhaustion & Heat stroke result in high pulse rates but 68 is pretty much normal.
82861 tn?1333453911 Heat stroke can strike very quickly and with no real warning unless you know what to look for. If the National Weather Service issues a heat advisory, heat watch or heat warning, treat your pets the same way you would treat yourself and stay inside with the air conditioner. Limit outdoor time and keep activity to a minimum, particularly in the afternoon hours. Be cool!
Avatar m tn Stroke CAN kill. V-fib without prompt treatment WILL kill. Within 45 seconds after you go into v-fib - i.e. your heart stops pumping - you WILL lose consciousness. Within 3 minutes of onset of v-fib without treatment (CPR or cardioversion) your brain starts to die. Stroke CAN kill but absent VERY PROMPT treatment v-fib WILL INVARIABLY KILL YOU. Hence medication for rate control.
Avatar f tn My husband is 32 yo and has been laying brick off and on his whole teen-adult life. He has always gotten sick before doing anything high stress. Before work in the morning he throws up every time almost. We chalked that up to possible anxiety, but here more often lately even on mornings with no sickness, he gets out to work and we aren't sure if he gets too hot or what, but he starts vomiting and getting almost like chills or trembles and has to come back home.
Avatar f tn TOPROL or METOLAR cause numb and/or tingling hands and feet etc. "Stopping suddenly can cause a stroke or heat attack!" How do you reduce gradually since it is the extended release type which should not be broken or crushed? The one I have (Metolar) has 165 tiny white pills in a gelatin capsule but the pills probably have different release times and they all look the same. 506547 tn?1210655204 You may be looking at heat stroke. Get him to a vet NOW! Heat stroke is a medical emergency, and death can come quickly. Soak him down with cool water before you get going. Check his gums - if they're white, he is in shock and you have no time to waste.
Avatar f tn I have read several commments regarding heat stroke/exhaustion. No one has mentioned swelling. If I exert myself when temps are hot and humidity high, my face and ears swell up. They itch and are bright red. The only thing that seems to help is a steroid shot and prednisone pack. My face and ears will peel almost like a sunburn. Does this happen to anyone out there? If I sweat during the night I will get itchy. Gold Bond medicated powder helps tremendously.
