Common Questions and Answers about How does heat exhaustion occur

heat

Avatar f tn I have read several commments regarding heat stroke/exhaustion. No one has mentioned swelling. If I exert myself when temps are hot and humidity high, my face and ears swell up. They itch and are bright red. The only thing that seems to help is a steroid shot and prednisone pack. My face and ears will peel almost like a sunburn. Does this happen to anyone out there? If I sweat during the night I will get itchy. Gold Bond medicated powder helps tremendously.
Avatar f tn Dehydration can cause nausea and lead to a vicious cycle where the dehydration and heat do lead to heat exhaustion because the nausea prevents the intake of fluids which just adds to the dehydration and leads to the body getting hotter and hotter.
Avatar f tn A year ago I believe I suffered some heat exhaustion/stroke and since then, when i start getting hot during activities, i get chills up and down my spine, arms and legs. My calf muscle on my left side will tingle/becomes numb, i get dizzy , my face gets red, i can feel my heart pounding in my head and my breathing is rapid but shallow and i have trouble regulating it for a few minutes. It scares me.
Avatar m tn You might be losing too many salts due to sweating and on that exhaustion episode might have lost minerals in salts. You have to rehydreate yourself with water and salts. Measure your blood pressure and keep it in normal range and go for testing of your minerals. Take care!
Avatar m tn I have had 2 heart attacks (age 46 and 48) from clots in a tiny artery, branch of a branch of LAD and ever since have issues breathing when it's humid outside. I am working for 1 month in a carpenter shop with no A/C, only fans and it has been as high as 99. I think I've gotten heat exhaustion twice now, missed 2 days of work. This is not my career, only a 1 month learning experience and I'm considering going to half days, early mornings only.
Avatar m tn It has really interfered with my ability to think clearly and lucidly. Is it possible that these car naps caused me to have some sort of heat exhaustion damage to my brain? Even if I were extremely exhausted, would my body be alerted out of sleep when the temperature or CO2 level gets too high before any damage to my nervous system begins? I have been to a neurologist several years ago and he says that eventually the headaches will go away.
Avatar f tn I'm a golfer playing in Missouri now in temperatures in mid to high 90's and with heat index over 100. We call it "Survival Gold". All sorts of usual symptoms occur to people from thermal (heat) stress leading to heat exhaustion, heat prostration and the potentially fatal "heat stroke". If this only occurs playing golf in hot weather and in the sun and no other times then it likely is a part of heat stress for you.
Avatar f tn d expect with heat exhaustion. I would recommend you start by seeing your doctor about getting your mental health appropriately assessed, it will help rule in or out MH causations and you should ask your doctor what else could it be that I haven't been tested for yet... Cheers...........

352007 tn?1372857881 I have to agree with Lulu as it being neurological. Both heat exhaustion & Heat stroke result in high pulse rates but 68 is pretty much normal.
1464004 tn?1384135733 Does anyone else have an issue with heat exacerbating the rhythm problems ?I don't know if it has something to do with my thyroid ( I am very temperature intolerant since my total thyroidectomy) but heat seems to aggravate my rhythm issues.
Avatar n tn It sounds like your dog is suffering from heat exhaustion, so make sure she has access to plenty of fresh water. Heat exhaustion can quickly go to full-blown heat stroke which can be fatal if not treated. Hosing her down with the water hose in the heat of the day or after a walk will help. I recall my boss from several years ago who had an Italian Greyhound who nearly died of heat stroke here in Texas.
Avatar f tn If this happens often at all you need to worry, heat stroke (unlike heat exhaustion) can atually kill a person becuase it messes with the hypathalmes (aka body heat control central). But because you said she was cold and numb, she could have been in the late stages of heat exhaustion so you caught it in the transtion. Make sure she's drinking plenty of water all day before meets. I'm a cross country runner myself and it's very very important.
Avatar m tn My husband suffered heat exhaustion a few days ago. He ran a fever of 101 all night w/ sweating off and on. Thinking he would be in the a/c he went back to work the next day and had to be outside to fix a part on the equipment he was running which set him off to a severe headache, he quit sweating, dry and hot, his muscles were starting to cramp and he said he felt like he could vomit, but never did. He had all the symptoms of a stroke, but didn't lose consciousness.
436837 tn?1293793226 Dogs can easily get heat stroke and heat exhaustion and dehydration. Basking in the sun when it gets TOO hot is not a very good idea. I've caught my dog doing it sometimes....but most of the time she knows when she's had enough and moves automatically to the shade. A question. Just a thought. Does your dog stick close by you when you're outside? Mine is inclined to. If I am in the sun she'll come and sit or lay near me. If I'm in the shade, she'll get into the shade....
Avatar n tn I got heat exhaustion (Or similar) while at work during wed/thursday last week, and I still can't handle any semblence of heat, my eyesight is goofy, and my mind sluggish. I have a terrible sense of balance and I have trouble typing properly, I sometimes have to type the same word over ten to fifteen times to spell it right. Even if it's something simple like 'the'.
Avatar f tn It turned out to be heat exhaustion. I live in Florida with all the wonderful humidity. Turns out someone cut the wires to our outside air conditioning unit. I feel loads better now though :) even better than normal.
Avatar n tn I have also been experiencing memory problems and exhaustion. The exhaustion surprised me because I have always been a very active person who played many sports and worked out on a daily basis. The doctors did a lot of tests and all of the results came back normal, so they turned to a diagnosis of anxiety. I do not believe that this is anxiety, and have been searching for another diagnosis.
Avatar m tn heavy sweating, paleness, muscle cramps, tiredness, weakness, dizziness, headache, nausea or , fainting. If these condition persists, it would be best to see your doctor for proper management. Cooling measures that may be effective like drinking plenty of fluids, breaks from work, cool shower, and light weight clothing could help.(http://www.medicinenet.com/heat_exhaustion/article.
Avatar f tn So what exactly is heat intolerance and how does it relate to MS? I know the heat can exaggerate symptoms already there. But does MS make you more susceptible to getting overheated? I have noticed ever since the weather got hot (80s and 90s) I have trouble with the heat. As I've mentioned before, I run a lot. When I am running I get overheated way too fast. A lot fast than the other runners I train with.
Avatar f tn Hi, It is good that you are feeling better already. Heat-related illness such as heat exhaustion occurs when your body gets too hot. This can be caused by physical exercise or hot weather. It can present with heavy sweating, feeling weak, dizziness, nausea, headache, fast heartbeat and dark-colored urine, which indicates dehydration. It is important that you get out of the heat quickly. Drink plenty of water or other fluids.
Avatar f tn Dogs can get heat exhaustion and heat stroke just like people, and heat stroke can be fatal without immediate medical support. It's so easy to forget proper hydration and cooling during the beginning of the summer months. I'm guilty of that myself. Living in a sub-tropical region and being sensitive to heat, I have to force water and Gatorade down my throat regularly if I'm outside.
Avatar f tn I don't know about early labor but you could easily get heat exhaustion or heat stroke so take extra care and make sure you are staying hydrated and do anything you can to try and keep yourself cool.
