I'm not sure how long it lasts I would guess the worse of it 2 weeks. I just stopped using fentanyl patches the end of feb. I had to go 24 hours without a patch before I started suboxone. That was the only way I could get off the nasty patches!!!! I feel so bad for you it is pure hell. I have been told its the 2nd hardest thing to w/d from :( I'm currently weaning off the subs I have w/d but no where near the fentanyl w/d. Look up the Thomas recipe that helps people a lot.

I am on a 50 Fentanyl patch and have been on it for a year, changing it every other day. Prior to that, I was on a 25 Fentanyl for 4 or 5 years plus took Vicodin for break through pain. I am 55 years old and found out that I was born with Spinal Stenois (passed on at birth through my mother). I also have degenerative joint and disc disease of the spine and under gone two major spine surgeries in the past few years.

My PCP is now thinking about trying Fentanyl but, that may become an RX insurance problem because Fentanyl is so expensive. Does anyone have any suggestions and is osteoarthritis truly this painful? I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't another underlying issue they're not catching??? Thanks for your time in advance. This seems like a very informative & helpful website.

ive just come off fentanyl patches onto the morphine so i can taper down, my aunt who died was addicted to heroin so i know a bit about it so i just wanted to know the equivalent so i can understand roughly how much morphine im taking. thank you to anyone that can help. kind regards, carrie.

Does anybody have experience? How much longer does is take for a fentanyl cold turkey? Should I switch to all oxy for a few weeks first? And finally, if I take 5 days off, so with weekend on both sides that wud be 9 days? Wud that be long enuf?

I tried them a while back for my cronic back pain. Does it take a long time for them to work?. The first week i slept 14-16 hours a day is that normal?. I was at one time on MS Contin and was pretty out of it for about a week. Somehow i never got over that with the Fentanyl so i did not take it after that first week. So I would just discuss with your doctor the fact that the fentanyl is no longer working. I have heard that fentanyl tends to work a lot longer than longer acting opioids in pill form before effectiveness begins to wane. The options that your doctor will most likely present to you are, an increase in fentanyl (which will require wearing a couple of patches versus just one), an increase or change in breakthrough pain medication and/or an addition of a long acting medication in pill form.

Hi ChronicPain: Did you talk with the Doctor about the Fentanyl Dosage? Like I told you, It is too low and instead of changing the patch every 72hrs. you most likely needed to change it every 48hrs. I have to change the patch every 48 hrs. in order to get relief. Now that you're back on the Morphine after being on the Fentanyl, I will tell you that it isn't going to work. I'm surprised that you're not going through some sort of w/d at this point.

What if they give me a benzo with it? Which im sure they are going to do in the IV. How long does it take to get the suboxone out of my system so it wont effect thw fentanyl or benzo? Like today I did only a small half and my appt is next friday.
