How does famvir work

Common Questions and Answers about How does famvir work

famvir

However, with my new partner i'm scared of transmitting it so i've started suppression therapy. Does this really work? Is Famvir and Acyclovir just as effective (as far as transmission) ?
does genital herpes cause any skin disorders or does it bring out skin conditions that you might have in future or were suppressed now out earlier? The reason i ask is i was having a little itch on upper thigh area where my underwear line on inner upper thigh area on both sides and so i started to rub and scratch area not hard but just to make the itching feel better for not even 30 seconds.
You can use acyclovir, valtrex or famvir for this. Just keep in mind that the antivirals work best when taken at the very first sign of a potential ob so if you start feeling that tell tale tingle/itch or whatever your prodrome is ( if you have one ) start the meds then. No need to wait until you have a full blown ob - the sooner you can start the meds the faster they work. Some folks can even head off a full blown ob if they start medication early enough.
I am asking because since I have my cold I have one now. I normally use Abreva but I am not sure if this is ok to use while preggo. Does anyone know?? Please help if you can. Thanks ladies. Have a wonderful Friday!!
just itching and pain and no obvious lesions usually isn't due to herpes. since you've taken famvir, hard to tell if that helped to keep from developing obvious lesions or not. it's unfortunate that it appears that no one has sat you down and talked to you about all of this to help with your anxiety :( so are you likely to contract hsv2 from your partner? Overall the risk is very low.
Amino acid therapy tends to be even more complex. Braverman does an excellent job in his text explaining how these nutrients not only work together but what they do on their own, etc. The reading is a little more difficult to get through than most other texts designed for us regular folk~, but you can do it, and there's an entire chapter devoted to Lysine and Herpes, too, so you might find some help with it.
and frequency to urinate (the symptoms presided when i was taking famvir and then after 2 days of no treatment returned) i have had no noticeable external lesions (i think....) question 1: how good are blood test results at 5 weeks considering you're supposed to wait 3 months? question 2: I know this sounds atypical of herpes but is is possible to be herpetic urethritis with no external lesions? Thanks for any help..
-) I also read and I really need to know this answer, because its driving me nuts well its acually about Acyclovir, but I wanted to know if that also goes for valtrax and Famvir, it said that patients had Acyclovir resistant viruses mainly due to years of frequent cycles of infection and re-infection, and I was on nothing for years before I went on this, besides trying samples in the past but that wasnt for long, i am just scared nothing will work for me, I just want Famvir to work thats all.
no i havent had therapy, can i ask my doctor for that and how does that work???? n yes i did i washed then i put sanitizer i just wanted to make sure, thank you grace!
If your man tests negative for hsv2 then decide whether you think suppressive therapy is a worthwhile option or not for the both of you. Depending on how long you've been together and how you feel about condoms - this might be the better choice for you to protect him no matter what sort of sex you are having. Both resources I suggested go into this in more detail. So what med to use? Do you have insurance?
Have you tried the oral antivirals suppressively like acyclovir, valtrex or famvir? yes, barrier protection does help protect a partner for oral sex. if a dental dam isn't large enough then try non-microwaveable plastic wrap instead.
I have been to several doctors who blew it off as a yeast infection. Does anyone know of any alternatives that work?
3 days later she came to work with a cold sore. I asked her how she could have got that as she said she didn't get them. She said it was the first time that she's had them. I know that I wasn't the one to give her that as I have been tested in the past and it was negative for both types. What are the chances (statistically) that I could get this on my lips or on my penis if at the time she had no visible sores.
Welcome to the forum. However, it should be in the STD forum, not this one. Therefore my comments are brief and there won't be an opportunity for follow-up comments. Based on your numerous comments in the herpes forum and other MedHelp forums, it seems you are quite fixated on HSV-2. All evidence is that you don't have it, and I disagree with your doctor's comment about a "trend" in your blood test result that will eventually become positive.
If I start showing sx of an outbreak, I'll go get the Famvir. I've read that Famvir isn't as effective at suppressing viral shedding as Valtrex. I'm not in a relationship right now, so that's not a pressing issue, I just like being informed. Interested to know if anyone else experienced anything similar on Valtrex. I have the worst luck, lol.
They say part of the issue is that famvir - which I am still on, I have been on it for years, 2x/day, 500mg each dose - does not get into the blood-brain barrier very effectively. I was just wondering if you or anyone has seen something like this, or had any ideas of how I should treat it so I have some quality of life. I really am kind of desperate. Thanks.
It's just famvir. It's one of the 3 herpes antivirals that are routinely used to treat herpes with. It should be 250mg 3x/day for 7 days. Is that the dose they gave you? You can use the topical zovirax either orally or genitally but it really doesn't work for genital herpes so I wouldn't even bother using it there. apply it every 2-3 hours while awake to the cold sore. the famvir will help with cold sore healing too. It's unfortunate that they didn't do a lesion culture for you.
How long does valtrex stay in your system? Say you miss dosage for 2 days... do the meds linger in system for any amount of time? Thanks!
i am scared but i hope i don't have herpes...my doctor did say he wasn't sure..but how long does it take for raw skin on the vulva to heal?..
A study showed that you shed about the same amount whether you are having 0 ob's a year or 10 ob's a year so if you are trying to reduce transmission to a partner suppressive therapy might be the better choice regardless of how many ob's you are having. Famvir is usually the most expensive antiviral and has to be taken twice a day for suppressive therapy.
How do I ge a at home pcr? WHy famvir? is it easier on the liver? How wold a dermatologist help me?
We would likely also ask you to keep a detailed diary of how the lesions look and then compare that to the results you obtain to determine which are really herpes and which are not. It may also be that Famvir would work for you while Valtrex does not, if, indeed, all these lesions do turn out to be herpes. We rarely use Famvir, but every now and then, we find a patient who does a little better on Famvir than Valtrex. I personally would not recommend bumping your Valtrex to 2 grams a day.
2) Does suppressive theorpy prevent shedding and transmission of the virus. 3) How long does it take for suppressive theorpy like Acyclovir to take effect.
What type of doctor should I see for a PCR swab. How does a PCR swab work? Is this more reliable than WB? Covered by insurance? What would you do in my situation?
Apparently he has HSV1 genitally? I don't understand how that's possible? Medication he takes is famvir and its a 2 day (morning and night) medication for 5 days. We also used condoms every time - Am I at serious risk? Its was not a longterm relationship - Only a few weeks.
I attempted to go back on suppresive acylovir, but to no avail whatsoever. I then tried a one-week course of Famvir (500 mg twice daily) that also had no impact. And by no impact I mean not that the existing lesions didn't immediately disappear -- which I didn't expect-- but that I continued to get new lesions throughout the course of treatment. I also have been taking l-lysine, vitamins (including high doses of vitamin C), minerals (including zinc), and various herbal remedies.
I personally don't use Famvir at all unless both acyclovir and valacyclovir don't work. The research shows that in head to head trials, for some populations famvir is less effective. When possible, I just use generic acyclovir. It does need to be taken twice daily vs. once, but is way cheaper and just as effective. Suppressive therapy does reduce the risk of transmission of HSV 2 by about 48%, so good that you are doing that.
It could be a false positive by god's grace or that I have not developed IgG antibodies yet. How long does it take to develop IgG antibodies? I have had chicken pox and measles as a kid any effects on that now?
