Avatar m tn Immediately, I checked on the internet and found that P24 is used only for early HIV test (around 2-4weeks) and will fade away after that. Does P24 still use to detect HIV after 1 year and half? My lymph nodes are still everywhere, neck, armpit and groin, and I also have serious skin problem with my knee and I feel not well when I sleep at night and noon. Pls response as fast as possible.
Avatar n tn Dear Doc (and forum readers), About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though. I don't have sex. No girlfriend. And I don't sleep with street workers. As far as I can remember, I have not come into contact with blood (except when killing mosquitoes).
Avatar m tn I was wondering if someone would explain me how are the Elisa test classified and how do I know what generation its. Would anyone know what generation Quest Diagnosis Work with?
Avatar m tn PCR DNA test is not a diagnostic test. You took the ELISA to early. The window period is 3 months. Most people will test positive at 6-8 weeks. You will need to take a conclusive test at 3 months post exposure. This story sounds just like another guys that was posted recently.

Avatar f tn how accurate is a negative elisa test 3 weeks post risky exposure for a woman (unprotected sex) with a hiv positive man? my doctor says its 100% accurate, is this true....
Avatar n tn When I was diagnosed in 1991 they were not doing s/co testing. The RIBA test is a confirmatory test for the antibody test. It is no longer widely used in this country as there are better confirmatory tests like the NAT and PCR. The PCR is the gold standard....it is the only test that tells you whether the virus is in your blood. All the others just tell you about the antibodies. Why do you think after everyone and your doctor tells you that you do not have HCV that you are still so concerned?
Avatar m tn i have got an elisa test done for hiv 3 years after exposure. my test confirmed that i was negative. do i need to get retested or can i be assured that i am hiv negative. and yeah thanks for answering my previous questions, it helped me a great deal. you all are doing a great job , thumbs up....
Avatar n tn Does ELISA and WB test are also part of rapid test?and how accurate is rapid test if done after 6 weeks or 3 months?
Avatar f tn I haven't posted in a while and am wondering if anyone can help me with this because I can't find this answer anywhere... How does Oraquick work? I know it checks for antibodies and I know there are antigens on the test. My question is how do they create the antigens?Do they create a whole virus and then pull the antigen out of it? Where on the test are these antigens located? Are they on the T line? I have many fears regarding hiv but one of them is this test!
Avatar n tn Dr. EWH, My girlfriend and I tested for hiv and my girlfriend got the result back today. The result says "negative" and in "reference range" column states "nonreactive". It says that test was "hiv 1/2 ABS /W RFLX CONFIRMATION". It also says hiv-1/hiv-2 ABS ELISA. Does that mean ELISA was done first and then confirmed with something else? Or does it mean that it was confirmed by another test because the result of ELISA wasn't good?
Avatar n tn In many cases the clinics do not know which type of test is in use. They will just say it's an antibody test and to test outside the window period. I asked the health advisor here what type of test they used when they tested me at 28 days. She was a little taken aback I asked and said it was just a normal antibody test. It was only after I tested outside the window that I found out the test they use is a combined Antibody / P24 Antigen test.

Avatar m tn There is a lot of new tests but elisa is just the type of test, there are 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation of elisas, and there continue to be a lot of research for new tests, the newest teste tend to be rapid test accurate as elsia tests, there has been also improvement also in the NAAT tests, and some labs are trying to come up with a new 5th generation rapid test (PCR+Antibody+p24) but is not ready yet.
287996 tn?1312023682 ELISA is highly reliable, accurate and dependable test if done at the right specified time of 3 months. ELISA test is not ordered in a situation you described.

I'm a little worried that the longer it takes is not a good sign. What is the average time for this test?
