How does coreg work

Common Questions and Answers about How does coreg work

coreg

792040 tn?1237582438 I would imagine if the flutter does not improve with the Coreg that a pacemaker may be considered along with taking Coreg. A pacemaker really is a safety net as when the heart does not beat when it should, the pacemaker will work. I know many people young and old with a pacemaker and they get along just fine. There is no difference in activity level before and after pacemaker. Try not to worry. Just be aware of symptoms that require doctors attention.
406412 tn?1217438384 WHAT DO YOU THINK ? DOES COREG JUST COVER UP AND MASK THE TRUTH ABOUT HOW MUCH DAMAGE THERE REALLY IS BY INCREASING THE EF RATE. . .?
Avatar n tn I was previously on 12.5 mg of Coreg 2X a day for high blood pressure. I am also taking 10mg of Lexapro a day for anxiety. This caused me to become very fatigued and my doctor attributed it to the Coreg so he switched me to 10mg Norvasc every day (after weaning off the Coreg for 3 days). This was 2 weeks ago and I'm still feeling the same fatigue. How long does Coreg stay in your system after you stop taking it?
Avatar m tn Does anyone know of the schedule to wean of of Coreg and restart Tenormin? I am on Coreg 50mg twice a day. How long before I start taking the Tenormin again?
Avatar n tn I just posted something similar under an old question, so thought I would make it a separate expanded post. I've been on coreg (50mg) since I was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy in 2006 (age 54). I've seen doctors from UT Southwest to the Cleveland Clinic. My ejection fraction has been measured from mid 20s to mid 40s. The latest heart cath put it at 30%, the most recent echo put it at 36%.
Avatar f tn About titrating the coreg, thats what we thought. The Dr. I use to work for said that is how it is to be done and could take 1 to 3 yrs to see the improvment. Then workers comp took over the case and we could not see Dr. Elchahal anymore. The Dr's he is seeing now said his Coreg does not need to be titrated up, he has been there 3 times and has seen a different Dr.

907968 tn?1292622204 How does a Cardiologist(?) know what dose to start you on? What are the criteria? Alpha blocker? Beta blocker? Ace inhibitor? others,..?
Avatar n tn How long have you been on the Coreg? When I took Verapamil (a CCB), the side effects were so terrible that within 5 days I ended up in ER. They stopped the med. Now I take Diltiazem (also a CCB) and it's not nearly so bad. The first couple weeks I had some dizziness and whopper headaches. Now I'm left with a bit of brain fog and fatigue; I don't have the pep I had before but it does help the tachycardia and chest pain.
Avatar m tn You are not giving the drugs time to work...neither will work immediately... Normally one does not start beta blockers based on one high blood pressure reading. There is something missing here?
Avatar m tn Yes I will never go off the plavix again and am slowly moving up on the coreg and lisinopril. doing blood work each week to monitor and blood pressure once daily. I understand the ICD to be a safety device due to the higher occurrence of rapid heartbeat and sudden death when ejection fraction goes below 35. will have it implanted next week. What confuses me is that I was able to kick butt in the cardiac rehab and felt great. On appearence one would never believe I have heart disease.
Avatar m tn My cardiologist gave me a number of 45. What does this mean? And he wants me to take Coreg. So is this heart failure or heart disease? I also have mvp and had been taking propranolol for 30 years.
Avatar n tn I am curious as to your opinion regarding the use of coreg for blood pressure control for a juvenile diabetic, with renal problems (37%) function. The coreg causes problems controlling the blood sugar in the patient, and it causes bouts of vomiting and loss of consciousness it also causes very low blood pressures, fatigue and shortness of breath.
Avatar n tn Try cutting back, and it is not unusual for the heartrate not to increase very high with exercise. I believe you asked about another beta blocker as a substitute for coreg. Coreg as a dual mechanism as it also has an ACE inhibitor effects that helps dilate vessels. It is highly recommended for heart patients. Take care.
919623 tn?1258154330 I feel like I have to push myself ALL THE TIME! Does anyone know at what point should I give up work and just relax for awhile?
Avatar n tn How can I improve my LVEF. I had an MI with resulting damage and with the placement of one coated stent in Dec 06. I feel 100 % normal. I water ski, snow ski in Colorado scuba dive and ride a bike 10 miles 5 days a week. I have passed all the FAA physical requirements however they will not give me a new FAA physical citing a low EF of 32%. I have had a T Wave Alternans and passed. Any suggestions to improve LVEF. I am taking 25 mg Coreg twice a day.
Avatar f tn I have a friend - male- 68 who had a heart attack ~ 6 years ago. He takes a beta blocker - Coreg. I've known him for 3 years. During that time, he's always had, but now it's getting worse, a slow pulse & low Blood Pressure. Last night it was 84/54 pulse - 52. and he was feeling dizzy. Called the Dr. who said to drink fluids & take something salty - like saltine crackers. I just read up on Coreg - - beta blocker, and on low blood pressure.
Avatar f tn I still want children very badly and was told that basically, there were meds that I can take instead of Lisinopril, but I would have to stop taking Coreg. Of course, I would just have to see how I would do without Coreg... Are there any alternatives to Coreg?
Avatar m tn ed34, That is encouraging. Mostly, I think the concern was that it made that jump within seconds. My cardiologist thinks it only nerves as the nuclear revealed that my heart is "perfectly normal" in his words. Plus it really freaks me out. On the other hand, I decided to try the 10mg Coreg CR and it is not working. My blood pressure has gone from an average of 118/75 to an average of 130/80. Admittedly, that's still not bad, but it is kind of odd that it increased.
Avatar f tn Hi I was on Tiazac for about 6 ot 7 days and i skipped a few days of it,i have been feeling extremely dizzy and i saw my heart dr yesterday and he told me to stop the tiazac and he is puttting me on Coreg 6.
Avatar m tn You do have anxiety. You should work on that. There are healthier ways to work on that instead of taking prescription drugs. It can harm you many ways on the long run. It is absolutely wrong in your age to start on any beta blocker, when as you said after the tests the doctor said : nothing is wrong with your heart. But I am not a doctor, so it is just an opinion. Take care!
Avatar m tn First observation I know is correct, Coreg and Carvedilol are the exact same drug, except Carvedilol is the generic form of Coreg. Increasing the combination would mean over 120mg, an unheard of dosage. You are already taking a gorilla dose and that can cause a drop of EF in my opinion. EF ratings fluctuate. I'd ask for a BNP test that is used to determine the level of CHF one has. Usually less than 100 indicates no CHF.
