Common Questions and Answers about How does concerta work

concerta

Avatar m tn His pediatrcian has put him on 56 mg of Concerta with an addicional 19 mg while at school and 10 mg after school so we can get through homework. We recently started seeing a psychatrist and he said the school meds are way too high and should only take at most 56mg for school. He seemed ok on the higher dose. What should I do?
Avatar f tn remember, my Concerta is controlled release so that may make a difference in how it reacts with the Phenterimine.
Avatar f tn adderall and concerta both have seizures as a side effect along with other bad side effects, and so do all other medicines. you can to see if it is worth the risk. Have you tried taken vitamins like omega 3 and vitamins b6. most drugs ware off. best of luck to you.
Avatar f tn I just started taking Concerta (36 mg) and I immediately developed shingles. My doctor swears it's a coincidence, but I can't help but wonder. I had chicken pox as a child, but I've never had shingles before now. I went to the doctor today and got neurontin and valtrex, but the doctor told me to keep taking the Concerta. I don't know what to do because the Concerta is helping my ADD, but I also believe it at least played a part in my shingles outbreak.
Avatar n tn yes as the child grows and yes in weight particularly they dosage has to be increased or it will not work how it should and has in the past i know with the concerta they roughly work it out 1mg for each kilogram,so my child is on 36mg but weighs 40kg we went just under as apposed to giving to higher dose.
Avatar f tn 4) Have read a little on Wellbutrin...is this a possible combo with Intuniv and how well does it work with the hyperactivity and attention? Thank you...
Avatar f tn We are starting the Aderall 10 mg today and we are worried about the side affects. How does this combination of meds. work and what can we expect from this combo. We need to know the good and bad.
Avatar n tn 1 mg at bed time to help her sleep because she gets a little extra energy when the Concerta wears off at night. The Clonadine helps her sleep, helps the Concerta work during the day and has helped a bit with her appetite. My 1 year old still eats regardless, just less than she does when she doesnt take her meds. They are both very thin so I still worry about it as their mother, but their doc doesnt seem to worry at all.
Avatar m tn I stopped taking it for a while, and about a month ago, went back on the concerta. I take 36mg of extended release in the mornings when I have class or homework to do, and it does help me focus. However, since going back on it, I've noticed that I sometimes can't grasp words. Like I know what I'm talking about/trying to say, but I can't place a word with it. I know this is something that everyone gets, but it's happening with very high frequency when I'm on the concerta.
5757880 tn?1395578022 We probably won't go back to Vyvanse - he became a bit more aggressive and over-emotional when he was on it in the end. That is when they switched him to Concerta. The doctor said she was going to move him to Plain Methylphenidate (20mg / Twice a Day) but it will be for (3) times a day at 15mg. She is hoping since it's similar to Concerta it will work for him. They also mentioned taking the script to Wal-Mart and I wouldn't have to pay alot for it. Do you know if that's true?
Avatar f tn It seems a bit odd that these symptoms would only appear when switched to a lower dose than he was used to. How much concerta does he take a day?
Avatar n tn that is sweet spot but a small ammount of alprazolam will overpower MPH and if it does you will need literally half bottle of Concerta, this is my experience and I say for mayority of other reports that i red in last 2 years so you are safe but take 1mg xanax more and no cleaning...
Avatar m tn Im a 16 yearold male that plays a ton of sports and works out a lot but I'm never hungry! Its really weird all my buddies eat a ton of food after our games and in general there always hungry! I'm 6 feet tall and weigh 160 pounds. I am starting to feel weak because I don't eat. Is it normal for me to feel like this? I'm currently on 105mg of concerta. Could the concerta be doing it to me?
Avatar n tn I was having the same issues as you with these two it seemed when 7 p.m. came every night like clock work my kids turned in to monsters like the warewolf does when the sun goes down in the movies .There was no order and the fighting and hitting and screaming and jumping and total disrespect to others in the house the entire 9 yards !So the Dr add a dose of Risperdal at night to help curve the extreme behavior changes when the pill wore off .
Avatar f tn Concerta does not cause the enlarged heart, but definitely increases the heart rate and causes other chest pains, so cardiovascular monitoring is a MUST with all the ADHD-drug taking children. My son has a 5-6 mm hole in his heart and we get Eco every year, just because he is taking Concerta. So far, we were lucky and did not have to suspend taking it. If they say it - keep him off of it. I am sorry to say that.
Avatar f tn Hi. Concerta is the same drug as Ritalin, I believe, and could well be the cause of your wakefulness and loss of appetite. I take Adderall, a similar drug, to cope with fatigue, and it does dampen my hunger, for sure. It's a good consequence for me, if unintended. I take 20mg of the extended release type each morning, and can feel it wearing off by mid-afternoon. It doesn't affect my sleep. It's possible your dosage is too high, so a consultation with your doctor is order.
Avatar m tn The Concerta will show up for one to three days (in a urine test) depending on how fast you metabolize. However from what I have read, it will show up in the initial screening as a general amphetamine. After a positive initial screening, the sample will be further tested using a different methodology that will specify the type of amphetamine. Of course, if you have taken your generic version of adderall after the concerta for a couple of days. That should be what shows up.
5757880 tn?1395578022 Also, there is a chance we are dealing with something else along with the ADHD (PDD, Asperger’s, etc.) When Zane does his work at school, he rushes through it and will get F’s… but when he brings his work home, he knows all the answers and will do it with answering everything correct. We have a meeting set with a specialist in January 2014 (the earliest we can get in) to have him evaluated for any other disorders and until then we have been working with the wraparound group and the school.
Avatar n tn I have a 6 year old only child with ADHD, she are in the top of he class academically, but socialy she is falling apart, by interrupting all time in the class room, not following rules, being overly loud and out on the playground more or less being a bully. At home, I have a totally different kid, quiet, likes to read, do crafts, follows rules and mines her manners.
565294 tn?1216433315 he was always being called chubby before he started concerta and adderall....now everyone is worried he is too thin.....so yes it does suppress the appetite. That is why there was a whole controversy of women taking their children's ADHD medication so they could do their house work very fast and "diet" at the same time. Now that my son is off, he eats like a horse again but all very healthy food...so I am not worried.
Avatar f tn ritalin, restpordol(sp???), Concerta, and clonodine (help him sleep) but they work for just a while. He can be perfectly fine one minute and extremely mad over something so small the next.... not to mention that he runs full charge all day. Anyway, he has been getting a lot more aggressive here lately for no apparent reason. I mean nothing has changed in our home. His grandmother watches him in the afternoon while I work and then he is with me the rest of the day.
Avatar f tn I started taking 18 mg of Concerta once daily about 2 weeks ago. Oddly I have noticed two things: 1) I can no longer have my daily/morning coffee without severe nausea (even the pharmacist didn't have it as one of his warnings). 2) Despite the fact that it keeps me awake to the point that daytime napping is not possible I still feel exhausted most of the time which doesn't make much sense to me. Has anyone had anything like either of these things happen while they were taking it?
1575110 tn?1334664635 Hello, I also have adult ADD and I have tried both Concerta and Vyvanse. My doctor wanted me to try Concerta for a few weeks and I didn't like it at all. It didn't agree with me. It made it feel depressed and NOT motivated to do everyday things. I was on a 36 mg dose and when I went back to my doctor I told him I hated it. He mentioned that there is a new medication called Vyvanse and asked if I would like to try it. With nothing to lose, I said yes. I do like Vyvanse.
Avatar m tn I will agree, Concerta does cause her to lose her appetite, but I giver her Periactin to help control it & although she is very thin, she is healthy & is something I can deal with. From time to time she has gotten nose bleeds, but it's due to the weather & not from the concerta, she does not have issues with her lips. Like I said before, I do not know your child, I only know mine. I consider my child NORMAL, only because she is ADHD, does not mean she is ABNORMAL.
Avatar n tn My son is 15 years old and for as long as I can remeber he has always been very unhappy & extremely angry. He's been in & out of therapy (counseling) since he was 4 years old. We had NEVER concidered medication until about 8 months ago. My son was tired of not being liked, feeling angry, sad and felt he needed help beyond just counseling.
Avatar f tn Hi folks, I took Concerta for 2 weeks and gave it up because of GI issues and a lot of facial twitching in addition to still having a lot of fatigue. I stopped taking it almost a week ago but I still have a remaining eye twitch that is driving me nuts. Now I'm thinking the current twitch is likely unrelated to Concerta and may be MS related. If so, it is a new symptom for me and like most MS symptoms, I need relief. Has anyone had any success getting rid of the twitches?
Avatar f tn my doc can give me 30 day sample packs every month but I understand it does not work the same? I also have Bipolar II and PTSD which may make a difference? Thanks!
