973741 tn?1342342773 I think pretty much every woman will get to a place at some point where they wonder if they should try hormone replacement therapy. Mixed information about it. Do you use it and what for? Worries about using it? Let's tlk about it.
Avatar n tn Im reading a lot of advice against the use of hormone replacement therapy, but the studies I have researched report that its the combination of progesterone and estrogen that is bad for you, and that estrogen alone may actually decrease the risk of breast cancer. My question then is has anybody else read any studies similar?
441462 tn?1207951214 Vitex (claims to) balance hormone levels. If you don't have hormone problems I wouldn't recommend it, especially because I have read reviews where women with regular cycles had problems like anovulation and irregular mensturation after taking vitex. Even if you do have hormone problems, the best thing to do would be to go to an OB/Gyn or RE and get the tests done so your specific problem could be treated.
Avatar f tn What you have to note is that this study was done in a population of women who may have some characteristics which are different from your condition, hence the study results may not be entirely applicable to you. Like you, the women in the study had early stage breast cancer, and had hormone receptor positive tumors.

Avatar f tn The thing is, these studies are on post menopausal women. I can see where taking a replacement hormone when your body should naturally not be making this hormone anymore could be bad and I wouldn't do it. But what about the people who were thrown into surgical menopause at a time their body would still be producing it?
Avatar n tn Hi, You raise a goos question, its common for women to think that hrt is just for woemn without ovaries, its actually used even more frequently for women with ovaries naturally entering menopause ( as you are).
Avatar f tn Does anyone know if extended use of oral contraceptives (I'm talkin years of use) is related to breast cancer or is considered a 'risk'? I am curious because when I went to see my GP about the lumps I felt above my breast (lymph nodes/cysts) the first thing she asked me was if I was on birth control.
Avatar f tn t involve hormones (such as condoms and foam or an IUD), to let your body go back to its normal hormone cycles. Do this for two or three months and see if your cycles regulate, and how you feel. Keep a journal, it will help you see patterns. Then see how you're doing with the symptoms you list.
Avatar f tn With all the stuff in the news lately about HRT and their new findings, I would love to know your opinion. Are these studies only on women who have gone through natural menopause or do they also include women who were put into surgical menopause at a young age? I know the study talks about HRT that has progestin also but I am wondering what your thoughts are on all of this.
Avatar f tn On September 29, 2009 I had a complete hystorectomy with a 10lb adnexal mass removed at MD Anderson. An intestinal type cancer of low malignant potential was found. I am waiting to be sceduled for an MRI & Colonoscopy. After my surgery I was prescribed Effexor for my mood swings and hot flashes. The doctor has continued to increase the dosage up to the highest = 150 mg per day. All it has done for me is turn me into a zombie.
Avatar f tn DHEA-sulfate test measures the amount of DHEA-sulfate in the blood. DHEA-sulfate is a weak male hormone (androgen) produced by the adrenal gland in men and women. If your levels are high, you may have the unwanted side affects of excess hair or other male characteristics. This is something to follow with PCOS.

Avatar f tn 1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up. (2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house. (3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.
Avatar f tn Obviously, anything that gives you side effects that bad is probably not the right treatment for you. Generally, women aren't given that treatment as it can cause acne, hair growth where women don't want it, and other male attributes. In your case, you had low testosterone and high SHBG, which might have been able to be treated by dietary changes. But people are different. A problem is, testosterone varies a whole lot in both men and women, by the day, hour, week, etc.
Avatar f tn This is why so many women who are NOT suffering from IBS or any other GI issues will notice increased BMs, looser stool, etc. I remember I always did years before I ever had IBS, but really didn't give it much thought..just accepted it as part of the monthly symptoms. I remember hating the way it made me feel though . Little did I know that in the future.....
Avatar n tn As long as they increase - they are good! Look at some of the threads in this forum - a bunch of women posted their levels - but you cant compare apples to apples since you don't know exactly when you conceived. Just make sure they are increasing through another blood test to be sure.
Avatar n tn Recently had hormone tests and a scan done as I am experiencing alot of facial hair growth. The chin area has thick black hair. Scan showed bilateral pcos. Hormone tests were normal except for DHEA which is elevated.
Avatar m tn No, the ovulation test kit detects the hormone that stimulates ovulation (Luteinizing hormone). You need a pregnancy test to detect the presence of hcg (the pregnancy hormone).
Avatar n tn Some women just are dry. Generally it is due to hormone levels, but not always. I would suggest you use some sort of lubricant such as KY.
