Avatar n tn She was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 1.5 years ago. Her endocrinologist does not believe the wetting has to do with her diabetes. If her blood sugars are high before she goes to bed we can almost be 100% sure she will have a wet bed, but most times her sugars are in range and she might still wet. She has also gone through many test on her bladder and all is normal. My question is I have asked her endocrinologist to prescribe DDAVP for her to take during several camps she has this summer.

Avatar f tn Type ONE is also called Insulin dependent diabetes because your pancreas produces NO insulin and you need this hormone to live. Type TWO is what over 90% of people with diabetes have - that is what you are thinking of. Type TWO can be controlled mostly by diet, exercise and pills since these simple changes can help the body use the insulin it makes more efficiently. DO NOT stop giving her injections - she will get very very sick.
Avatar f tn I should add i was talking about hypothalamic (central) diabetes insipidus which is a deficiency of ADH hormone from the posterior pituitary. Nephrogenic diabetes insipidus is where the kidney is unable to respond to antidiuretic hormone. The best test for diabetes insipidus is a water deprivation test. Urine production, blood electrolyte levels, and weight are measured regularly for a period of about 12 hours, during which you are not allowed to drink.
Avatar n tn Researching the internet I came across a forum where other women were complaining about the exact same thing with and after pregnancy. I read that the hormone relaxin makes the tendons/ ligaments soft and thus pain can arise in hands/wrists/feet. The hormone supposedly can last in the body for 1 year... Apart from arch supporting insoles, is there anything to be done for relief? Thank you!
Avatar f tn t produce enough of the Thyroid hormone. And I also know that when I had the Glucose test my thyroid levels may have been off because my doctor just adjusted my medication. So should I just no worry as much as retest Glucose after I get Thyroid under control or should I start cutting back on certain foods. I probably should cut back anyway since I am overweight but with Thyroid levels being off I probably won't loose weight anyway.
798555 tn?1292787551 gov/dm/pubs/pancreaticislet/ For those unaware of what islet cells do follow this rather brief synopsis. Insulin is a hormone that helps the body use glucose for energy. Diabetes develops when the body doesn't make enough insulin, cannot use insulin properly, or both, causing glucose to build up in the blood. Islets within the pancreas contain ßeta cells. ßeta cells are responsible for producing the right amount of insulin as needed.
Avatar n tn Diabetes insipidus(water diabetes) is due to a hormone lacking that helps us hold onto water, these children will urinate excessively, drink excessively, lose weight and be sick with high sodiums, there is a form due to the pituitary hormone lacking and that which is due to the kidney not responding to the normal hormone. It does not sound like repeated fevers alone is diabetes insipidus.
Avatar f tn I have recently been diagnosed with borderline gestational diabetes. What are the normal levels of a pregnant women I should be looking for when I test. I'm 22 Weeks pregnant, and already have an extremely high risk pregnancy. This is my miracle baby and I don't want to risk losing this one too but I also feel I'm being really selfish by not wanting to use insulin.

Avatar n tn Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps the body use glucose for energy. Glucose is a form of sugar that is the body’s main source of energy. The body’s digestive system breaks food down into glucose, which then travels in the bloodstream to cells throughout the body. Glucose in the blood is called blood glucose, also known as blood sugar. As the blood glucose level rises after a meal, the pancreas releases insulin to help cells take in and use the glucose.
Avatar f tn Yes, you can develop type ii diabetes from steroid use. It is possible that the diabetes, if caused by steroid use, can be reversed if the steroids are discontinued. Steroids cause all sorts of endocrine problems. I was taking inhaled steroids for emphysema and it totally messed up my adrenals. I suffered extreme adrenal fatigue and have not recovered yet, even though I stopped taking the poison several months ago.
5789562 tn?1374459029 So my latest blood work revealed that I need a dose change and that I'm insulin resistant. I am now taking 200mg of levothyroxine for hypothyroidism and 40mg of atorvastatin for cholesterol and fatty liver. I also take fish oil, multivitamin, D3, allegra, and baby aspirin. My medical provider is focusing on my thyroid before tackling everything else. I should also mention that my mother has non alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver, diabetes, dementia, diverticulitis, and myopathy.

1068689 tn?1325827206 ve read, this is due to insulin resistance which in turn affects the pituitary glands production of luteinizing hormone (LH) which is the hormone that makes testosterone. Thyroid symptoms are known to occur in "normal" lab ranges. Posting your thyroid results can help to see if your thyroid hormones are in optimal range. One study found 92% of diabetics had low RBC magnesium. Magnesium keeps insulin under control.
